Ch. 14 Return of the Migraines

Ch. 14 Return of the Migraines
After getting lunch and a Vietnamese restaurant with Ella, we parted ways so that she could go home and take her shopping with her, and I could go back to my place to drop off my bags before checking in on Killer and Tokyo. Ella and I agreed to go out together that night around 9.
Reaching my apartment, I moved as best I could up the stairs only to run into Mrs. Greenley, who was putting out her old fat tabby cat.
I smiled brightly at her. “Hi, Mrs. Greenley.”
She turned to look at me with a somewhat sour look on her face. “Graham,” she said softly. “You aren’t seeing that boy Mitch anymore, are you?” Slow old bat.
I shook my head. “No, Ma’am. I stopped seeing him months ago when I found out he was cheating on me.”
She sighed. “There’s a young blonde girl sitting outside your apartment who says she knows him and is waiting for you. Said her name was Maya.”
Oh, fuck me.
My lips thinned. “Thank you for telling me, Mrs. Greenley. I’ll go… deal with it, I guess.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Should I call the police if I hear shouting?”
I smirked. “Only if it sounds like someone’s getting beat up.” I started to make my way up the stairs to my apartment.
Maya was back? What the fuck did she want? I thought I made it clear to her that I didn’t want to see her again.
Sure enough, she was sitting outside my door, her knees drawn up to her body. Her blonde hair was cropped short, now, with a long fringe with the ends dyed black. She was wearing an oversized sweatshirt and pants… what? She NEVER dressed like that. Not even when she’s having a lazy day.
She jumped and looked up at the sound of my footsteps, and she stumbled to get back up and onto her feet.
“I-Indy?” Her voice was quiet and sounded kind of hoarse.
I stood in front of my door and set down my bags. “What are you doing here, Maya?”
I was more than shocked, though, when she suddenly burst into tears and buried her face in her hands.
“Indy, I’m sorry, I know you said you didn’t want to see me, again, but I’m scared and I had nowhere to go and I –“ She started to sob hysterically.
“Hey, hey,” I said, moving over to put a hand on her shoulder, only to have her flinch back and let out a yelp of pain. She looked up at me with big, scared eyes, and that was when I saw a giant, hand-shaped bruise on her cheek… Oh my god.
“I-I’m sorry…” she said again, wrapping her arms protectively around her middle.
I silently picked up my shopping bags and moved to open my apartment, ushering her inside and to sit on the couch while I put my shopping bags in my room.
I went back out to see that Maya’d moved to the far side of the couch and into the corner, her legs up in front of her and her arms wrapped around them. She was shaking slightly and she was whimpering quietly.
I went into the kitchen and pulled out a bottle of Jack I kept for Ashley and poured some for Maya. Moving back into the living room, I sat down on the coffee table across form her and held out the glass to her.
“Here, drink this,” I said.
Shakily, she reached for the glass and downed the whiskey quickly, wincing as she swallowed.
“Indy, I am so so sorry to just show up like this, especially after what happened. But I thought Angel wouldn’t talk to me and I don’t really know anyone else, so…” She was rambling.
“How long, May?” She smiled slightly at the old nickname. I mainly used it to get her relaxed enough to talk. I may have been furious with her, but if she was being hit, I would step in to help her. I’m not heartless, and I do have a history with her.
She looked surprised and handed me back the glass. “How long what?” She said quietly.
“How long has Mitch been hitting you?”
She jumped and looked down. “Um… three weeks?” She said hesitantly.
I frowned. “Are you asking me or telling me?” I said firmly. “How long, Maya?”
She burst into tears, again. “Three months.”
I clenched my fists. That BASTARD! How could he do this to her? Never mind that this was my ex best friend with whom my ex cheated on me with, she was harmless otherwise!
“It… it started after you stopped answering the door and the phone when he’d go to talk to you. He just got so angry, Indy… he started blaming me for tempting him into cheating on you and then he started to call me names. Then one day he pushed me into a wall and told me that it was because of me you were seeing someone else. This morning he slapped me because I changed my hair.”
“Where else were you hit?” I was trying very hard not to go over to Maya’s apartment and beat the shit out of him.
She shifted uncomfortably. Then she stood up, visibly shaking as she pulled her sweatshirt over her head. She was wearing a Motionless in White t-shirt, but it did NOTHING to hide the fact that her arms, shoulders, and torso were covered in huge, blotchy bruises mostly in the faint shapes of handprints, but some were clearly from being pushed into things.
“There’s some on my legs too, but I don’t want to take my pants off right now,” She said quietly, fiddling with her fingers.
“Maya, how could you let him do this to you?” I said, standing to look her in the eye when I talked. “Yes I’m still mad that you two betrayed me, but that doesn’t excuse him hurting you! Nothing excuses abuse!”
She looked a little surprised at my outburst and flinched back a bit. “But Indy, where am I supposed to go? I just left the apartment while Mitch was out.”
I sighed. Ash may get mad at me, and I KNOW Angel will, but…
I sent a quick text to Ella, telling her I had to cancel drinks with her that evening.
“Maya, you can stay here.”

A few hours later

“Have you lost your mind?!” I held the phone away from my ear as Angel yelled into it. “You’re letting MAYA stay with you? What the fuck is wrong with you?!”
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose, propping my feet up on the coffee table, with my fingers as she continued to chew me out.
“Angel, she had nowhere to go. I wasn’t gonna send her back to that abusive asshole!”
“Yeah, okay, I get that, but she betrayed you Indigo! I think that should count for something! What would your boytoy say if he knew?!”
“Don’t bring Ash into this! Even if he does have a problem with it, it’s not his apartment, and I’m not gonna have her here forever! Just until I know for sure that Mitch won’t touch her and she can either have her apartment back or find a new place for herself!”
Angel was silent for a moment. “Alright, fine. Your life, I guess. Just let me know if you need anything, and I’ll be there. Just promise me you’re gonna tell Ashley about it.”
Sighing, I leaned back and ran a hand through my newly bleached hair. I’d been in the middle of re-dyeing it when Angel had called me, so really this phone call gave my hair a better chance to dry out.
“Yeah, I’m gonna tell him tonight when I skype him after the concert.”
I heard a scuffling noise from my bedroom, and Maya came out, wearing one of my Misfits shirts and sweatpants. Her hair was wet from taking a shower, and she’d covered her bruises with concealer. She shyly moved into the living room and sat down next to me on the couch, looking at her lap.
“I’ll talk to you later.” I said quietly.
“Is she there?”
“Yes.”
“Fine. I’ll come over later and help you out.”
I nodded. “Sounds good. Bye.”
“Bye.”
When I hung up my phone, I dropped it on the couch next to me and crossed my arms, sighing deeply.
“Thanks for letting me use your shower,” Maya said quietly. “And the clothes.”
I nodded. “You’re welcome.”
We ended up sitting there in silence for a while, not really knowing what to say to each other.
“So, what do you plan on doing?” I said suddenly, making her jump.
“Um, I’m not really sure…” she said slowly. “I just wanted out of there, and took the first chance I got.”
I nodded. “I get that. But do you want to get your stuff out of there, or…”
She violently shook her head. “No. I don’t want to go anywhere near that place while HE’S still there.”
I groaned and sat up. “Okay, but just so you know you’re not gonna stay here forever, and just because I’m letting you stay here doesn’t make us friends again. I would just hate myself if I let you go back to that apartment without protection of some sort. And just so you know, I have to tell my boyfriend that you’re here,” I said carefully.
She seemed to understand my rules. “Would you go with me to get my stuff, then? Or help me kick him out? One or the other?” She gave me a strained look.
Groaning, I stood up and walked into the kitchen. “Ugh, if I’m gonna do this, I need the tallest Jack and Coke I can find.”

Two Hours Later

Angel by this point had come over, and it wasn’t until she saw the extent of Maya’s injuries that she really understood why she couldn’t be there. Then she went on a long tangent about how horrible Mitch was and how she always knew he was trouble and blah blah blah, to say the least, it got annoying fast.
We all made our way to Maya (and I guess also Mitch’s) apartment. Mitch’s bike was gone, so we knew he was still out.
As we hurried about getting all of Maya’s clothes and shit, Angel stood guard outside the apartment while we threw Maya’s shit into a suitcase.
“Indy?” Maya said quietly as she stuffed her underwear into a bag.
“Yeah?”
“Who was that man who said he was your boyfriend when Mitch and I came to see you? He looked so familiar…”
I stuffed her plush bunny doll into a backpack. She’d won it at a fair when we were in school, and she’d kept it ever since.
“My boyfriend, Ashley. He was over that day, and I didn’t want to answer the door, so I made him do it.”
She made a surprised noise. “I got told off by Ashley Purdy from Black Veil Brides?” She guffawed.
I smirked as I carried her now overstuffed suitcase into the living room.
“Pretty much, yeah. I still haven’t told him that you’re going to be with me, so try not to do anything to upset him until then, because I know for a fact that he’s not going to be happy that you’re staying in my apartment,” I warned, carrying her bags over by the front door.
She smiled lightly. “I would expect nothing less. I don’t expect you to forgive me, Indy. Especially after what happened, I wouldn’t forgive me. Just know that, even though what happened would say otherwise, I never wanted to hurt you. Ever. Mitch and I got drunk one night when you were visiting your friend in San Diego, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up next to him in my bed, naked. I told him to go home and forget it happened, and then he came back again while you were working one night. It just kept happening and he told me you were refusing to have sex and that we’d just…” her voice broke and I turned to see her standing in the doorway of her bedroom, looking down at the bag she was holding.
In all my years knowing her, I’d never seen Maya look so broken. She was usually a firecracker; the life of the party. She went out of her way to make you laugh, and to make sure that you were okay, or try and play matchmaker with you and one of her coworkers.
I walked over to her and carefully put a hand on her shoulder. “Maya, please don’t try and justify what happened. It happened, and that’s the end of it. Yes, it hurt me, and yes I am still angry. But I want to move past it, and if you keep apologizing, I will start screaming.”
She chuckled a bit, but it seemed to hurt her as she started to wince.
Picking up her bags quickly, we quickly wrote a note to Mitch that said Maya was going out of town for a while so he wouldn’t look for her, and we rushed from the apartment and to Angel’s car, where we stuffed them in and took off back to my apartment.
“I’m glad you’re out of there,” Angel said when we put her bags in my room. There wasn’t really a guest room (more of a spare room, really) so she was going to bunk with me until the extra room was set up for her.
“If you’d stayed any longer in there, who knows what he could have done to you,” Angel continued, tucking a strand of blue hair behind an ear.
Maya shuddered. “I don’t even want to think about it.”
Groaning, I threw myself onto my bed and stared up at the ceiling.
“Well, this is turning out to be more complicated than I expected. I still have to go get Killer and Tokyo from Ash’s apartment.” I moaned. When I reached up to run my hand through my hair, I remembered that it was still bleached.
“And I still need to dye my hair!” I whined.
Rollin over, I crawled off the bed and walked into the bathroom, where a bottle of hair dye waited for me. It was navy blue, this time. I changed it up all the time, and now I needed something other than violet.
“If either of you need anything, don’t bother me unless it’s to help me with my hair!” I shouted out the door as I put an old towel around my shoulders and pulled out the applicator and squirted some dye into a bowl and started to spread it into my hair, coating it into my hair as thickly as possible.
“Girl, you’re never gonna get it completely in doing it that way.” Suddenly the applicator was out of my hand and Angel was standing behind me, coating the dye into the hair at the back of my head.
Obrigada,” I mumbled, watching her as she applied it.
“Indy, what are you gonna do about Mitch? He’s gonna look for her, you know. What if he comes here and you’re not here to help Maya, or if your boy’s not back from Warped?”
I bit my lip, tonging my piercing. “Angel, no matter what, Maya needed to get out of there. Her parents are dead, and she has no family. We were her only true friends, why would I turn her away?”
Angel sighed. “I’m just saying there’s more to this than just getting her out of there.”
I sighed. “I know. Let’s just deal with it while we can.”

1 Hour Later

With my hair now navy blue, I sat down at my dinner table and pulled out my laptop, turning it on and logging onto Skype. Ashley promised to Skype me after the show. Killer and Tokyo were resting on my couch.
I rang his Skype until his face appeared on the screen, sitting at one of the tables on the bus. His lips pulled into a giant smile when he saw me.
“Hey, beautiful!” He crowed when he saw me. “I miss you so much! Your hair is different!”
I laughed and ran a hand through it, wincing when I saw dye on my hand and wiped it on a dish towel. “Yup. It’s blue now.”
He grinned. “I can see that!”
“Is that Indy?” CC’s face suddenly appeared over Ash’s shoulder.
“Hey, Indy! You have blue hair!” He said excitedly.
“Indy has blue hair?”
Suddenly the camera got turned around and I could see the rest of the band lounging in the bus. Andy was on the couch, and Jake and Jinxx were leaning against each other on the ground.
“Hey Indy!” The all said happily.
I smiled and waved. “Hey guys! How’s Warped?”
Andy laughed. “Oh man, Indy, you have no idea what you’re missing!”
I nodded. “I’ll bet. I have too much excitement in my life as it is. I can’t wait to come out there!”
Jinxx laughed. “Make sure that’s soon, cause Ash is already starting to get whiny. We get it, Ash, you miss your girl, now SHUT UP!” I laughed loudly when a T-shirt flew over the monitor and landed on Jinxx’s head.
Ash turned the computer back around. “How’re my pupsdoing?”
Grinning, I looked over at them. They’d sat up at the sound of Ash’s voice and were frantically turning their heads, searching for him.
“They can hear you and are looking for you.”
He laughed. “Aw, I miss them too.”
I sighed and ran a hand through my hair. I do that a lot, don’t I?
“Hey Ash, there’s something I gotta talk to you about…” I said slowly.
He looked scared suddenly. “Is it bad?”
I cringed. “That depends…”
“What did you do?” CC’s voice could be heard from a distance.
I sighed and looked over to see Maya’d walked into the room, and she was moving slowly into the kitchen, trying to avoid the camera.
“I… um… well… remember Maya?” I tried slowly.
“That bitch who slept with your ex?” Maya flinched visibly.
I scratched my arm and bit my lip ring. “Yeah, um… she’s kinda here, and she’s kinda living with me temporarily…” I waited for the inevitable.
Sure enough, Ash’s smile turned into a deep frown and he crossed his arms over his chest. “She’s what?”
I groaned. “Long story short, Mitch wasn’t… treating her right, and she had nowhere to go. She’s going to be with me either until we get Mitch out of her apartment or until we can get her a new apartment.”
Ash groaned and rubbed his eyes. “Damn, it’s like me leaving is the start of a hurricane.”
I laughed. “Yeah, I guess so. I just wanted you to know in case something happened.”
“What does that mean?” Andy suddenly appeared over Ash’s shoulder, an eyebrow raised questioningly.
“It means that if I have a black eye, don’t question it.”
Ash face palmed. “Ugh, I knew something was going to go wrong after we left.” Andy shook his head.
Jake suddenly appeared. “Are you saying that your crazy ex might attack you while we’re gone because your hiding your ex best friend who betrayed you by cheating on you with your exboyfriend?” He said disbelievingly.
I laughed nervously. “Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.”
“That’s the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard, and I do stupid shit all day long!” CC suddenly appeared in the screen upside down.
Maya sat down across from me, holding a water bottle and taking small nervous sips from it as Angel came busting in and going into the kitchen.
“Girl, where’s your beer?” She said loudly.
The guys jumped slightly. “Who the fuck’s that?” Andy said.
“Oh, that’s my friend Angel. Both she and Maya are sitting with me now.”
“Hi Angel and Maya!” CC shouted.
Maya giggled. “Hi CC,” she said quietly.
Jinxx suddenly appeared on screen, too. “If they’re there, where are they?”
I turned my laptop to Maya, who turned bright red and looked up shyly through her bangs. “Hi,” she said timidly.
“Hi,” I heard Jinxx say. “You must be Maya.”
She blushed even deeper. “Yeah, that would be me.”
Angel suddenly bounced in over her shoulder and pulled one of my chairs over.
“And I’m Angel,” She said brightly.
“You’re cute,” CC said suddenly.
Angel smiled. “Aw, thanks CC.”
“Maya, how long do you plan on being there?” Ash said suddenly.
“Oh, not long,” Maya said timidly. “I just wanted to get out of that apartment before Mitch hurt me again, and I just sort of up and left. I’m gonna either get him out of my apartment, or just get a new one, because frankly, it was too much.”
“That’s understandable, but don’t you think it’s weird to be stying with Indy when, well, you know…” Ash trailed off, and I heard a smacking sound and Ash saying “Ow!”
I turned the laptop back around.
“Baby, don’t worry about it, everything’s fine. And if I do think something’s gonna happen, I’ll just bring Maya with me to Warped and dump her on you guys.”
Andy snorted, but I saw Jinxx perk up slightly when I said that, a smile on his lips.
“At least Jinxx would enjoy it.” I teased.
Jinxx turned bright red and looked down as Jake messed up his hair and the guys laughed.
“Okay, baby, we need to go, we got more shows and interviews to do tomorrow, and we need to get up early.”
I smiled. “Alright. See you guys later. I love you Ash,” I blew a kiss.
All the guys “awed” until Ash punched Andy in the shoulder.
“Shut up!” He mumbled.
“I love you too, Babe!” He smiled.
I waved and hung up, shutting my laptop and putting my head in my hands.
Oh meu deus isso vai ser um verão LONGO,” I said tiredly.

I write it out on Microsoft word and then copy and paste. Usually if I type it out directly it lags and refuses to let me edit it. When I write it out and copy and past, it shows paragraph breaks. Maybe it reads differently on other computers or something, but I have always been able to distinguish the paragraphs with my computer.

I don't know how it would work on a phone, but I figured out on my computer that I have to click the Enter key twice at the end of a paragraph to get it to space, because just indenting doesn't work on here.

@BlackIris
Im reading on my phone and there are no spaces between each of the paragraphs. It might justf be my phone

@BlackVeilFireGirl99
Thanks. I don't know what medium you're using to read my story, but on my computer it shows separate paragraphs. I don't indent as it takes forever to do and doesn't always read. This site doesn't always like to allow me to edit and upload the way I would in any other scenario.

This is a good story but you need to put spaces between the paragraphs otherwise its really hard to read as its just a giant block of text other then that I love the story. Its certainly and interesting read.
