This Is Our Sweet Blasphemy

In The Midnight Hour

Andrew pointed at me then at a spot in front of him, gesturing for me to approach him. In other circumstances, if I saw a really cute boy gesturing for me to come near him, I normally would try to play hard to get or even give him a smirk. I definitely wouldn’t go pale trying to figure out a way to get out of here. Even if I did, what was I going to do next? Go back to school? Well I guess that would speed up Andrew’s night.

Alex took his arm off of me and turned me to face him, he had a worried look and the drunkenness inside him was being held at bay; he was serious “What? Do you want me to take you home?” his hands were on my shoulder. Anyone who looked at us at that moment would think that we liked each other, but I knew Alex was sincerely trying to figure out what was wrong.

I felt cold fingers touch my arm, and I didn’t dare turn. Alex turned to face Andrew and pursed his lips. Seeing that Alex is quite popular, and that at least 14 different people came to talk to him in the few hours we were here, I’m guessing they knew each other. “Hey Alex, could I borrow Victoria here for a sec?” Yeah, they knew each other.

“Um…” he looked at me, not sure whether or not he should let me go. I turned my gaze from him and set my eyes on a pair of black leather boots standing beside me. “Yeah, Andy, sure…” he kissed my temple to let me know that if I needed anything he would be there, then he let go of my shoulder and sat back down in the booth in front of Jack who was looking at us cautiously.

Andrew seemed slightly annoyed by Alex’s affection, his colds hands wrapping around my arm in a more friendly way. Instead of like a father who found his daughter drinking with some friends, it was more like a friend who was going to buy you a drink.

He led me outside and while we passed there were many people whistling to get our attention, boys and girls. It started annoying me and I desperately felt like putting my middle finger up. Luckily, before I could do anything, we reached the streets and Andrew pulled me to the side of the pub, where there were less people. He had an annoyed look. I smiled slightly, waiting for him to throw me back in the school and keep me on lock-down. My eyes traveled to his neck, he wasn’t wearing his cross. Does that mean he’s off duty and he won’t put me on lock-down after all?

“What do you think you’re doing out here?” No such luck. Ah well, since I’m already going to hell anyway, there’s no reason to lie.

“You don’t actually think I was going to spend my weekend playing truth or dare with 11 year olds?” I answered his question with one of my own. And added “And what are you doing here?”

He looked a little confused at my statement of eleven year olds but he quickly answered “I think that would be a perfect thing to do to spend your weekend… Instead of sneaking out and hanging out with people you barely know.” He said that last sentence through gritted teeth. I was starting to feel like he didn’t like Alex… But why?

I rolled my eyes. He didn’t answer my last question. I wanted to know what he was hiding from me. “What are you doing here then?”

He gave me an exasperated look and sighed dramatically. “Victoria, that is none of your business.” He looked away from me and stared off into the streets. He seemed to be thinking.
He looked back at me, not knowing what to do with me. I wish he would stop treating me like a 6 year old potato sack he has to carry around sometimes. I groaned in response. He didn’t say anything, which made me even angrier, I felt like he was ignoring me. He just looked back at the street, he might’ve saw something because his eyes widened and he looked back at me, his eyes still wide like he really needed to hurry up with me. I gave him a confused look and turned my head to see whatever he saw, but his hand stopped me, turning my head to face him once again.
He kept his hand against my cheek and I felt like his shocking blue eyes were trying to read my mind. “Okay, listen, I can’t leave right now, so I’m going to present you to a friend, stay with him, please don’t run away, I don’t- um, yeah, just, stay here, I’ll be right back.” He pleaded.

He looked kind of worried and put his hand back in his jacket. I just realized how his cold hand had kept my face warm, the cold breeze stung and I felt like curling up in my bed. Part of me was thanking God I didn’t get drunk because right now would be a disaster; however, the other part of me was thinking that since Andrew was going to take me back to school, I could have gotten drunk because I didn’t have to preoccupy myself with taking the bus back and all that shit that kept me with a glass of water by my side at all times.

He left me there and jogged down the street, I watched him as he went. He met up with four other guys and pointed to the door of the pub, probably telling them to go in. As they were heading there, Andrew grabbed one of them by the arm. He talked a while with this dude, and looked my way a few times, so either he was talking about me, or he was checking to see that I didn’t run off. I’m going with both. The guy he was talking to looked at me and stared at me for a while like he was deciding if I was worth it or not, it made me uncomfortable. The guy had a ripped leather jacket and completely torn up tee shirt, going with leather pants and leather boots. Through his ripped tee shirt I could see a tattoo across his abdomen, it read “OUTLAW”. He had a kind of feminine look, not like Andy though, it’s hard to explain… He faced Andrew and nodded, saying something more. Andrew clapped him on the back and jogged back to me. The other guy followed slowly after him.

“Okay so, Victoria, this is Ashley.” He pointed to the guy who was almost reaching us, he gave me a smile.

“You can call me Ash if you like.” He extended his hand, all the while his eyes not leaving my face. It was like he was examining me, wanting to capture every inch of my face so he could remember me forever. It was kind of creepy.

I nodded and gave him a small smile “I’m Victoria.”

Wow great going Vic, don’t you think he already knows your name, they were talking about you just a few minutes ago; can you be any more awkward?

He gave a short laugh “Yeah, Andy told me lots about you.”

I looked at Andrew, he was glaring at Ash. “Okay then, thanks for that information Ash, let’s go?” He rushed, seeming eager to end this conversation as soon as possible. We returned inside the pub and Ash took me by the hand so we wouldn’t lose each other. The first thing I did was look for Alex and Jack. They were nowhere to be found; it looked like there were twice as many people since the first time I came in. Ash pushed his way to the back of the bar, all the while holding my hand so I wouldn’t get lost. We were approaching a door written ‘staff’ across from it.

“Um, are you sure we can go in?” I asked a bit unsure of where this man I barely knew was leading me.

“Yeah sweetheart, no worries, we’re VIP.” He looked back at me and grinned. He didn’t give me time to smile back or whatever; he just turned quickly and opened the door.

He rushed me inside, pulling on my hand. It was when the door closed that I realized Andrew wasn’t with us anymore. The door lead to a corridor, with white walls almost all covered in posts announcing gigs or band concerts. We walked down the corridor, with me admiring all the posters, most were of the bands I listened to, from Slipknot to Fallout Boy.

He dragged me in a small room with just a couch and a few tables and chairs. He let go of my hand and sat down on one end of the couch. He gestured for me to sit down; I did and asked him what we were doing here.

“Well, Andy told me that you weren’t supposed to be here; naughty,” he winked and continued “so I’m supposed to keep you busy. But I’m going to go soon, so I’ll just ask someone else to guard you while I’m out.”

“Where are you going?” I asked, and I also wanted to know where the fuck Andrew was and why the fuck he left me with Ash, so I added “And where’s Andrew?”

“Oh don’t worry about that,” he really needed to stop telling me to not worry because that left me worried. “Andy and I are just going to do what we normally do when we come here. When we’re done, you’ll get to go back to heaven.” He smirked.

“I think you meant to say ‘hell’” I rolled my eyes in annoyance of remembering I had to go back to Saint Angela’s… he chuckled at my response, I gave him a little smile.

We heard a knock on the door and a man with a gray tee shirt poked his head in and looked at Ashley “You’re on in 5.” He announced and went away. That left me confused. What did he mean by that? Was Ashley going to perform? Was he going to make an announcement? Where the fuck was Andrew?

“I’ll see you later sweetheart, stay here, don’t run off or you’ll get lost.” I’m not fucking 4, I knew where we had entered and I knew where the exit was. He left and closed the door behind him.

I was actually thinking about staying there to find out if someone was going to come back for me, but with only a few chairs to keep me company after a few minutes I got bored. So I got up and opened the door, I went to the door we had come in from and made my way back in the pub. There was now loud music blasting, so I could tell there was someone playing live or a band since there were multiple instruments. The music was really good and the singer had an amazing voice. It was the type of music I would listen to, and I loved it. I'd never heard this song before so I got curious and started making my way to the stage. The place was packed and too many people were in front of the stage like a real show, not just a gig. I started listening to the lyrics.

In death we’re all believers
Raise up your sirens
Break through the silence
We are united in the search for something more
Cross your heart
Open your mind
Hide your face in their disguise

These people are amazing. I decided to go through the corner where there was less people and finally made my way to the front. I took a look at the band.

And oh my. I almost chocked on my own saliva.

Even when I fall down to my knees
I never say a prayer I don't believe
And I don't wanna look up to the sun
But I will never be the faithless one
No, I will never be the faithless one

Of course I knew he was hiding something from me. I just didn’t even imagine it was that he was in a motherfucking band; a good one at that.

I just leaned on the wall looking at him sing. He sung perfectly and his voice was amazing, like an angel. No… More like a devil.
I could feel the song coming to an end.

Even when I fall down to my knees
I never say a prayer I don't believe
And I will never look up to the sun
But I don't wanna be the faithless one
No, I will never be the faithless one
But I will never be the faithless one

Well Andrew, I might be going to hell, but you're going to be sitting on the throne when I get there.
