Bullets in a Music Box

Band Practice

A sharp pain ran from the base of my neck to my forehead as I sat on the stool. For the last seven hours, I've been at the studio with my touring band, practicing the set that I put together. We work well together, but the sound just isn't right. There are two days until we fly out to Bristol and I'm not sure if I'm ready to perform. Andy has been busy with Ronnie all week and it has made it easier to come here every morning. I sighed and put my head in my hands.

"You okay?" Jackson asked me. I looked at him and shrugged.

"I'm fine, just a head ache. I'm just worried we aren't exactly ready for the tour," I said.

"What do you mean? We know all the songs, we've run through them at least ten times today," Zara asked from behind her drums.

"It's not that we don't know the songs and shit. It's, I don't like the way it sounds, which makes me sound like a picky bitch, but," I said.

"How about we go get some food?" Callum asked and I looked at him.

"Why?" I asked.

"To get out of the studio and talk about something other than the tour," he said. I am pretty hungry.

"I'm down if you all are," I said. They all shared a similar shrug and we all left the studio and got down to our cars.

"Where are we going exactly?" I asked.

"Severly," Callum said and I nodded. I climbed into my car and started it. As I pulled out of my spot, I heard my phone begin to ring. A groan left my mouth as I answered it.

"Hello," I said.

"Hey, what are you doing?" I heard Andy ask.

"I am currently driving to Severly to get food with my band," I said.

"Why?" He asked.

"Because after seven fucking hours, I am not confident on my set," I said.

"Oh. Why not?" He asked.

"I don't know, it just doesn't sound like me. I mean we all work well together and shit, but I just don't think my fans in the crowd are going to like it," I said.

"Sadee, your fans are going to like it either way. How about this, you get food and shit, talk with your band. Then call me when you are finished there and I will go to the studio and listen to your set," he said. I thought for a second. Maybe we need a second pair of ears.

"Sure, we should be done around five thirty," I said.

"Alright, I will be chilling with Crow while you eat," he said.

"Have fun with that," I smiled and hung up. I got out of my car and saw the other waiting for me.

"How the hell did you guys get here so fast?" I asked.

"We weren't talking on the phone," Zara said. I rolled my eyes and we all walked inside and got a table.

"Who were you talking to?" Jackson asked.

"Andy, and speaking of him. When we finish eating, he is going to come to the studio and listen to the set and give us his opinion on it," I said. They all nodded and I shifted in my spot.

"So what is touring with Black Veil Brides like?" Zara asked.

"Um, well, we are all a bunch of weirdos. There is drinking involved. There is me singing randomly with the band. It's a grand old time," I laughed and she smiled.

"Are we all gonna be on the same bus?" Callum asked.

"Um, I know I'm on the BVB bus, Falling in Reverse has a bus. I'm not sure. Shit. I have to talk to Tyler," I said.

"I think we have our own RV thing," Jackson said to Callum.

"If so, that's fine. But if we are drinking on the BVB bus and you pass out, feel free to chill on the bus with us," I said.

"So how did you meet Andy?" Callum asked.

"I was originally hired to help him write songs for his Andy Black project. We became friends. Juliet shit on their relationship and broke it off, I was there, I was his friend when he needed one. And now we have been dating for six months," I smiled and he nodded.

"When did you meet your wife?" I asked.

"I met Lucy when I moved to LA when I was 19. She was a crew person on the All Time Low tour I went on and we became friends, then started dating. Then, we got married when we were 21. Our daughter Ryley was born a year later," he said.

"So you both have a knack for music? Nice. I like your daughters name, by the way," I said.

"Thanks. It was Lucy's idea," he said.

"Aren't you gonna miss them like crazy on tour?" Zara asked.

"Of course I am. But Lucy knows this is what I want to do, and she understands touring so," he shrugged and took a bite of his food.

"We should meet them before we leave on Saturday," I said.

"I can ask Lucy, but I don't know," he said.

"Oh, come on Callum! I don't bite, don't know about these two, but kids are my weakness, I melt in front of them," I said.

"It's not that, I promise. Ryley has PT all week and she's going through a lot right now," he said.

"Oh what happened?" I asked.

"She was born with a muscle condition and she got a surgery a few months ago," he said.

"Awe. That is so sad," I said and pouted. He smiled before pulling out his phone and scrolling on it.

"This is Ryley," he showed me the picture and I just about died. She was so cute. She had curly brown hair with the brightest blue eyes. She looked almost exactly like Callum.

"Oh my gosh. She is the cutest kid I have ever seen," I said and he smiled.

"Someone's a proud papa," Zara said with a smirk.

"Hey, leave him alone, he's allowed to be proud of his kid," I said. We all finished our food and paid for the meal before walking outside.

"I'm gonna call Andy and I'll meet you all at the studio," I said and they nodded before walking to their cars. I climbed in my own and dialed Andy's number. As I drove it rang before he answered.

"Are you finished eating?" He asked.

"We are, and I'm heading back to the studio. Did you know that Callum is married and has a four year old daughter?" I asked.

"I didn't, but why would I?" He asked.

"Cause, he is one of my touring band. Speaking of which, are they sharing the BVB bus with us or do they get their own little RV thing?" I asked.

"I'm pretty sure they get their own RV, but a couple of the crew members have left since FIR is on with us, so, they might get the bus," he said. I nodded and then parked my car.

"Alright, I'm back at the studio. Get your lazy ass here," I said and hung up. A smile was spread across my face as I walked into the building and up to the studio. Zara was already behind her drums, hitting them carelessly.

"Alright, so, Andy will be here soon. We are gonna play the whole half hour set and he will tell us what he thinks," I said. They nodded and I sat down on an amp with the mic. Callum and Jackson were tuning their instruments and I looked around bored. Then the door to the studio opened and in walked Andy and Ronnie.

"You didn't say you were bringing Ronnie," I said. Andy shrugged and they sat down.

"Didn't know I had to," he smiled and I flipped him off. Then I stood up and went to my spot before looking at them and they began playing The Day You Left. When I started singing, it felt different for some reason. It felt right. As the set went on, I walked all around, danced a bit with Callum and Jackson and when we finished, I was smiling like an idiot.

"You guys look like a legit band," Ronnie said.

"Isn't that the point?" I asked.

"No, when it's a singer with a touring band, it's usually the singer who has the spotlight, all four of you had the spotlight," Andy said.

"Well, I don't work that way. What were your thoughts? Good? Bad?" I asked.

"It was like watching you when you performed with me, but better because I can actually enjoy it," Andy said.

"Ronnie?" I asked.

"You have a stage presence like no other Sadee," he said. I did a happy dance and put the mic in the mic stand. Maybe we are ready for tour?

Notes

So shorter chapter. Not much happened. But, if you read the end, you are seeing some foreshadowing. Not gonna tell you what I have planned but feel free to let me know what you think I have planned. Hope you liked it!

QUESTION TIME: What should everyone do in the next chapter? Party? Be lazy? Check up on Charlie and his band? And! What should I name Charlie's band?! I need help!
