She Moves the World

Element Zero

Ashley looked at me like I was crazy; I know he had just rescued me, and I know I have people somewhere that were upset that I had been taken. But Andy looked up to me and if I would have been more careful with my person at that damned truck stop this wouldn’t have happened.
“How did you get that gash on your shoulder anyway,” Ashley asked quietly.
“About an hour ago, I was running from room to room on the second story,” I started, deciding the ponytail of braided strands wasn’t a good look for me, “I found an air vent that led from what looked like a surgery room, and shimmied up it. Doing that, I sliced my arm on the way out.”
“Well, I will send you coordinates of where we are,” he starts heading for the doorway, “And, Doc Patterson sends his regards.”
And just like that he was gone.

I looked out the window, and saw guards standing around the front of the building. Andy should be on the fourth floor somewhere. I just have to find a way to reach the room above me.
Looking out the window of the room I was in, I saw a metal set of stares that went to the room above me.
“I don’t know about this,” I said to myself softly, “but this is my only shot to even find Andy.”
Opening the window carefully, I looked around for a brief moment; no one was in sight which made me happy. Climbing out onto the landing, I began to ascend the metal steps. Getting closer to the window, I glanced inside to see if anyone was inside.
It was dark, and the only light was going from a candle in the corner.
The window is already cracked, I thought, I can sneak in and no one would know.
Lifting the window up enough to slide my feet in first, I push myself in the slot allotted for me. Hearing someone cough, I hold my phone in front of me for light.
“Who’s there,” I whispered, scanning the room left to right.
“Vi, is that you,”
“Andy?”
He was badly beaten; bruises ran up his sides and along his face. His head had a gash on the side of it. His eyes were black from the torture, I assumed.
“How did you know it was me?” I asked, kneeling down next to my badly wounded friend.
“You are going to be so mad as us,” he started, trying to sit up but opted for leaning on the wall.
“Why?” I inquired sternly.
“We all have some sort of prototype implant,” he stated, “I can use my eyes as scopes and have gained the night vision ability.”
“Well that’s just great,” I snipped, “Now they can come after all of us,”
“No, no, don’t get it twisted; they still only want biotics,” he said, regaining some energy to stand against the wall, “They weren’t even interested in these fucking things.”
Watching him point to his eyes, I shook my head and sighed.
“Well, let’s get you out of here, okay?”
“I’m not sure how fast I can move,” he winced, bracing himself on my shoulder.
“I think I can handle this from here, Biersack,” I said gruffly.
They attacked me, attacked those close to me; they were going to pay dearly.
“Just be ready,”
I built a barrier around us as we walked out of the room. Quickly and quietly we managed to make it down to the floor I was originally kept on. As soon as we rounded the corner to the hall way with the next stair case attached, five guards caught on and found us.
“There she is,” one of them shouted, pointing in our direction.
“Catch her,” screamed the only female in the group.
“I don’t fucking think so, bitches,” I shouted.
Energy circled around Andy and me as I built myself up to my full potential. An Annihilation field sprang up around the barrier I had built, and as the guards rushed us, one by one they caught fire. Reaching the end of my barrier, I activated my Nova ability and knocked the remaining two guards by the stair case.
“Shit,” Andy said, finally able to walk on his own, “How did you do that? You took on five men without even getting near them.”
“It’s a gift,” I said, feeling the strain set in, “But I need to go to the lab here; they have a new mineral I need to stabilize my abilities completely and the information on where this rock can be mined.”
“What is it called?”
“I don’t know,” I said, finally coming down from the high my adrenaline caused, “But they named it Element Zero.”
“Fucking awesome name, though,” he said, managing a small chuckle.
The lab was on the first floor; no scientists would be there now because it was after hours. But there would be BHR reps all over the first floor now. I silently ran into the room next to the staircase, my quarters, and grabbed my bag, my ipod, and my shoes. Putting on my footwear, I was ready to get the fuck out of that place.
“Andy, I need you to go left when we get to the bottom of the stairs,” I directed, “The very end of the hallway has a door to the back of this place. No one guards that door, and that is the way I want you to escape. Wait for me at the path when; I will be as quick as possible.”
“But Vi…”
“Dude, don’t fucking argue with me,” I said, swinging my braids out of my face, “Just trust me,”
He headed sound the hallway silently, as I turned right and headed into the science lab. Dead biotics laid all over the room on tables and in stasis pods.
“Shit,” I gasped, trying to find the Eezo.
Locating the glowing blue rock was easy enough; how I would carry a decent amount would be the difficult part. I opened my bag once I got to the box they contained in, and began stuffing rocks into the small, black abyss of its insides.
“She had to have gone out with the sniper,” I heard a voice say, nearing the science room.
Ducking into a storage bin, I would see the people through a crack in the opening.
“I don’t care that he is gone,” the man said, sounding like the man who had been over clocking my abilities for the past three weeks.
“I just care that she is found; she cannot get back out to the world. Not after all we have done with her,”
That explains why my powers were so amped up; they adjusted the levels somehow. Shit, CC was going to flip shit when I tell him about our new advantage courtesy of BHR.
CC; God how I missed his silly smile so.
The doctors entered to grab a chart, looked around, and left. I waited a few minutes, and listened for the foot steps to be far off. Getting out of the crate I made my way to the back door. Throwing it opened, I ran towards Andy, who was sitting down smoking a cigarette.
“Can I please have one,” I asked, panting.
“Sure,” he handed me the pack, arching an eyebrow, “What happened to yours?”
“Left them on the bus,” I stated.
“Explains why you are so pissy,” he jested.
“Fuck you,”
“Love you, too Vi.” He giggled, and stood slowly, “Let’s get back to the factory,”
“Sounds good,” I agreed, “But this is my first time remember?”
“Right, sorry.”
I was so looking forward to being back to normal for a short bit.
