She Moves the World

Hurricane of Darkness

The two men grabbed me as soon as I came out of the restroom; black bag over my head and all.
“Stop squirming, you little bitch,” the one on my right said, quickly putting restraints on my wrists.
“Dude, she’s not going to listen,” the other said, following suit at my ankles.
I felt the wind from the windows as I heard someone shout my name as the vehicle I was in drive off.
It was CC
My heart broke.

For what seemed to be hours, I tried to get out of my restraints. They were so tight I couldn’t even focus on my biotics to help me out. Tears started streaming down my face in the cloth bag covering my head. Just as I started to think I was going to be tied up forever, the vehicle stopped.
“It this her?” an older gentleman said.
“This is her,” one of my captors confirmed, “She is the very last one.”
“The last one outside of safe havens, you mean?” the other man who black-bagged me said.
“Yes, stupid.”
“Enough,” the older voice said, “Take her to 21A. I will be there shortly.”
They carried me in cave man style; my body over one of their shoulders. We went up what I assumed was an elevator, got off on what felt like the second floor, and walked over a room or two.
The door creaked open, and I was dropped on the floor. The bag was removed, and my restraints cut loose. Before I could turn to see my captors, the door was shut. It was damp and dusty; the darkness didn’t make it any better.
Finding the light switch by the door, I flicked it upwards.
“Huh,” I said to myself, “It looks like an abandoned hospital of some sort.”
Looking around, I realized I was in an old surgical room. The table on the left side of the room had blood on it, dried and foul smelling. The clothing I was wearing was torn; not that it matter much though. I always wore torn clothes. I dug through drawers and containers to find something to pick the lock of the door with, only to be startled by the door handle being turned.
Opting to hide in the supply closet the room was equipped with, I saw what looked like an old man enter the room.
“Miss Morgan, it would be a wise decision to come out now,” he said, softly but with and edge; a sharp, dirty, double edge.
I agreed with him, deep inside myself. Coming out of the closet, he smiled at me but it was far from comforting.
“Violet, I’m not going to hurt you,” he said, motioning for me to sit on the tattered chair to his right.
Doing as I was told, he handed me a folder: it had all of my information in it from my birth date, to the accident when I was a kid, and up til now.
“Have you been following me?” I asked, staring up at the man.
“Why, yes,” he stated, and begin to walk back and forth in front of me, “We have been, and for good reason.”
“How could threatening my life be a good reason?” I shot at him in disgust.
“You stupid woman,” he rose his voice a tad, and stopped.
“Look, Violet, I know you aren’t stupid,” he began again, in a softer tone, “I know you know why we have been following you. And, I know you know where we can find more like you. We have the beginnings of our army already.”
He stopped, faced me, and bent down to my eye level.
“We have you,”
“What is so important about me,” I leaned back in the chair, crossing my arms, “I’m nothing special.”
“Oh, on the contrary, my dear,” he chuckled a bit at my naivety, “You are.”
The next report was from the office I had gotten my new implant from. They had broken into his surgical suite over night to grab these. I went down the chart of things they had checked, and everything was as I remembered it. That is, until I got to the implant. It was in bold, red letters.
“L5n – Violet has shown no physical or mental status issues; no testing will be done.”
“You the best of the best, Violet; a vanguard, if you will. You abilities like no one else, and that is why we need you. This Resistance party you and your friends have started will soon all be a memory.”
CC was instantly thrown into my mind; I had to reach him; But how?
“We are preparing your quarters for you right now; you will be moved in a few hours.”
With that, he left and locked the door behind him. I quickly began searching for something I could use for a communication device. I patted my body for anything I could use. And that is when I felt it.
My cell phone was still in my pocket.
Taking it out carefully, I looked in my contacts for someone’s number. I still had service, but had to be careful.
I decided to send to GPS coordinates to the building, and a description of what the outside looked like from the window I was in at the moment.
My phone buzzed
CC: oh my god, are you ok.
Me: yes, I think so. I’m a bit bruised up, but that is about it.
Me: and scared… let’s not forget that.
CC: Baby, I’m so sorry, I should have gone with you.
Me: It isn’t your fault… you called me baby…. You called me baby! Does that mean we are a thing now?
CC: As soon as we get you out of there, I’ll marry you if you want; please be safe. How do you have your phone still?
Me: They didn’t take it… shit, someone is coming.

I hid my phone in my cargo shorts pocket; it was baggy, and no one would notice.
“Violet, your room is ready, and we were sent to escort you.”
I made my first break for it; it was unsuccessful. I got beat up for that, and each time after that I tried, the beatings became worse. During the day, they would test my biotic abilities until I passed out, or got physically ill.
I had one day a week that I didn’t have to do anything, but I was monitored by a guard outside my room. I paced the floors inside, listening to my Black Veil Brides channel on my ipod, which they permitted me to have on my person. They still didn’t know about the cell phone.
I had an idea; the building around me was crumbling slowly, and there was a loose board along the wall leading into the next room, which was empty. Tonight, during shift change, I will move that board and see if the door is unlocked. If it was, I would make a break for it the next day.
As the twilight hours drew near, I turned off my light, but left my ipod running; they always knew I slept with my ipod running. Putting on the black sweat pants and sweat jacket they had issued me, and leaving my shoes off for anti-noise purposes, I prepared myself. Heart pounding and mind racing, I send CC a message.
Me: I found a loose board in the wall of my chambers; there is a room next to it.
I sat on my bed for a minute, staring at the moon out the barred window. It was a full moon; beautiful and round, majestic and lucid like a dream. A single tear fell down my cheek as my phone blinked.
CC: Are you planning an escape?
Me: Yes… well, maybe.
CC: please be careful, princess…
Me: I have someone I need to come back to alive… so that isn’t even a choice at this point.
CC: And that someone misses you more than you know. I love you.
Me: :) :) :) I love you, too.
And with that I slide the board over carefully and stuck my head in first, followed by the rest of me. The room was completely empty, minus the pile of biotic implants in the corner. Grimacing of how they were obtained, I tried the door; it was unlocked.
It was now or never.
