The Seven Deadly Sins: Demon of Pride

Into the Pit of Fire

As Andy and Eva began their long adventure, which included a drive to LAX and dealing with all that bullshit, then make their way via plane to Pelican Bay State Prison, CC found it hard to actually take a day off.
His two comrades in arms were walking down a dark street with no sign of daybreak, and he felt horrible
I shouldn’t have said anything about Eva’s past, CC thought as he opened the refrigerator in his 11th floor condo.

“Hey, Jake,” he called out to Pitts who was playing Xbox in the living room.
“Yep,” he said in monotone.
“Do you want a beer?”
“Sure.”
The two men sat in silence, watching Jake get demolished by twelve year olds in Call of Duty: Ghost. Occasionally, Jake would look at his watch and sigh, causing CC to eventually ask why.

“Uh, why have you looked at your watch every 15 minutes since 11 this morning?” CC asked, realizing it was about 2 o’clock and Andy and E should have arrived up north already.
“Andy and Eva,” Jake said, finally having the kill cam and turning off the console, “They should have arrived by now.”

Buzzzz Buzzzz

CC looked down at his phone: they just got their rental car for the day.

“I am so nervous, dude,” CC said, suddenly standing up.
“I know, me too.”
“Maybe we should hang out with Ash and Jinxx here in a bit.” CC suggested, “I bet they are freaking out, too”

Far enough away from their teammates at the agency, Andy and Ella picked out their rental for the day. A four door sedan, a Ford Escape; decent on gas, and doesn’t look a thing like her car.

“Hey,” she spoke, looking down, “Last night; I really enjoyed myself.”
Andy smiled, and put on his sunglasses.
“Me, too.”

The drive from Brookings State Airport in Oregon was uneventful; 32 minutes of going over questions to ask, and trying to make sure Brody didn’t bring up his and Eva’s relationship. On the plane ride in Andy had been thinking about the night before and how close he was to Eva; he, too, had to keep his cool if Brody tried anything.

Approaching the security gates, Eva got out her necessary paper work and both of them made sure their badges and day passes for the site were available to see at all times. Pulling up to the terminal, a man in his late fifties and balding stepped out with a smile.

“Good Afternoon folks,” he said, looking at his roster of people to expect for the day, “And who might you be?”
“I am Chief Detective Evangeline Brookes, and the gentleman driving is my partner, Detective Biersack. We are here in regards to Brody Robertson.”

She handed her paperwork to Andy who in turn passed it to the officer.

“Oh, I remember you, miss,” the officer said sadly, “I remember those sad green eyes like it was yesterday.”
“Yea, well, time’s change right,” she spoke back, taking back her papers as he handed them back to the detectives.
“Inmate Robertson knows you are coming today. Just drive up to the employee lot, and put this tag in your window. After that, go to the front desk and speak with the officer…” He rambled on about the procedure a minute longer before waving up on through.
“He remembered you, huh,” Andy asked, finally reaching a decent parking space.
“I guess so,” she said, fluffing her hair slightly, and checking her make up, “You know, I have this feeling in my stomach he is going to try something while we are here.”
“If he does,” Andy started, feeling his temples tense under the angered thought of her mind being toiled with.
“Hey, stud,” he heard, glancing over towards Eva.
“Yea?”
“Calm down,” she said pleadingly. “We have two hours max to ask our questions. Then, we can either go back tonight, or in the morning. Sound good?”
“Yea, however, going back tonight sounds best,” He got out of the car, and shut the door heavily, “The thought of him being anywhere near you pisses me off.”

Giggling she followed her partner to the front doors. Receiving clearance to enter the building, Andy watched as Eva handled the busy work: asking where the visiting rooms were, bathrooms, and various other places. She even put him on the preferred list just in case they had to return in the future.

“Alright, Detectives Brookes and Biersack,” a buff, tanned deputy said from the door to the prison, “Robertson is ready for his interview.”

Walking through the halls of Pelican Bay, Andy watched how composed Eva was being a object of the many men in the prison. Some knew her from when she had busted them in passing, others knew her just be hear-say. Andy shoved his hands in his pockets, and tossed his hair out of his eye sight.

“Now, I want to prepare you for this,” Eva said, turned to Andy with haste, “Brody will probably try small talk; let him. He is more use to us distracted and will tell us more on accident if he remains that way.”
“Gotcha; whatever you say, E,” he smiled down at her, still feeling uneasy.
“Here goes nothing,” Eva sighed and opened the door to the interviewing room.

Notes

Sorry so short. I'm working on multiple stories at once, and need to do more research for this one. Stay tuned for a better and longer chapter!
