The Wretched And Divine

Ignored The Problem

ALEX'S POV

I woke up and sighed, happy that i didn't have any nightmares. I believe it was because Andy was holding me. He's my saviour; always protecting me from things that only mean harm. I rolled over gently and looked over at Andy's sleeping figure before slipping out from under his arm and crawling over him. It proved to be a difficult task, moving even a little causes me great pain. I sighed again and walked to the bathroom so i could do my business.

As i was drying my hands off i couldn't stop the impulse to look at my stomach in the mirror, something i haven't bothered to do in a long time. I contemplated whether or not to do it before giving in and pulling up my boyfriend's Dropkick Murphys muscle tee and frowning. I must have gained at least 10 or more pounds! I can't believe i let myself get so... fat. I was too far consumed in my self hatred to notice a figure enter the bathroom.

"What are you doing?" Andy asked groggily. I froze before quickly pulling his shirt back down.

"Nothing." I mumbled as i attempted to walk past him, only to be held back by a pair of strong hands. Andy looked down at me expectingly. Almost as if he was just waiting for me to break down again.

"Why were you looking at yourself like that in the mirror?" He asked worriedly. I shook my head and averted my gaze to the floor. He's already worrying about me enough, i don't need him to worry even more.

"I-i was just looking at the bruises, that's all. Don't worry about me." I whispered, unconvincingly. Andy squinted his eyes at me in thought before nodding an 'okay'. He kissed my forehead and walked past me before starting the shower.

I felt bad for lying to him but like i said, i was only trying to prevent him from worrying! I walked downstairs into his kitchen and to the medicine cabinet for pain meds. I took out the Tylenol bottle and popped two in my mouth before i walked over to the fridge and grabbed a water bottle to wash down the medication. I heard someone walk in and prayed that it was Andy.

"Hello, dear. How are you?" A hushed voice asked. I instantly knew that it wasn't Andy, but Andy's mother. I internally sighed, not wanting to talk to anyone aside from Andy himself but not wanting to come off as rude.

"I'm fine, thanks." I turned around, faking a smile. My smile faltered and turned into a frown. I bit my lip as it started to quiver, trying to prevent myself from crying. Andy's mother saw my struggle and sighed sadly before walking over to me and engulfing me in a hug. Tears started rolling down my face.

"Shh, child. It'll be alright." Andy's mother whispered. I pulled away from her embrace and nodded as i wiped my tears away and sniffled.

"I'm sorry, i don't mean to cry." I apologized, suddenly feeling foolish for crying in front of her.

"It's completely understandable, Alex. You have been through a lot these past few days." She reassured me. I nodded once more before realizing something.

"I never got your name." I stated, blushing out of embarrassment.

"You're right! Well, my name is Amy. My husband, who is currently in the study, his name is Christopher. But you can call him Chris." Amy said. I nodded and smiled at her warmly. She was a wonderful woman, although she talked formally, i grew to really like her very much.

"I'm glad we had this talk, Amy. And thank you for comforting me, i haven't been comforted by a mother figure since i was little." I frowned. Amy mimicked my actions before rubbing my arm.

"Did your mother pass away?" She asked warily. I shook my head.

"No, but she might as well be. The whole reason i'm staying here is because my dad is abusive, physically and emotionally. He beat my mom into doing whatever he said, so whenever he'd hit me or call me names she would just look the other way. I was on the brink of running away or doing something i wouldn't be able to take back when i met Andy." I paused, smiling. "I always tell him he's my saviour." Amy frowned at my words but smiled when i mentioned her son. She nodded before moving around me and gathering food supplies together.

"You hungry? I'm making my famous lasagne!" She laughed. I opened my mouth to say yes, but closed it. Should i? I mean when i looked in the mirror, all i saw was fat. My arms, my stomach, and when i looked down, my legs. I swallowed thickly before opening my mouth again, pushing aside the regret that tried to stop me from speaking a lie.

"Starving."

Comments

@Red Phoenix77 i wrote this back when i was about 13 (im 18 now) but i assume that my thought process was that vampires weren't undead, they were very much alive. also, i was very inexperienced when writing this story so i didn't put too much thought into things. maybe i'll re-write it one day! :)

Not entirely sure why vampires would need to worry about protection . Since they're already undead , they wouldn't have to worry about diseases , and I seriously doubt that she's gonna get pregnant .
