Just The Boy Next Door

New Year's Day

~19~
"Happy New Year, VCU!" Naomi's voice rang loudly over the air.

It had been a few day's since Andy's birthday, and the recording of his first song, and already he was getting requests for more. It was also our New Years Eve Celebration at the studios. Streamers, balloons and champagne bottles flooded the room as our voice echoed through the airwaves.

Naomi, Lena, and myself though it would be a great idea to have party music remixes playing all night, stopping at midnight for our scheduled podcast we recorded. CC was in the studio taking care of that, stealing glances from Selena every chance she could. I could tell the two of them were romantically involved in some way as early as about a week ago, and to be honest I was more than happy for them both.

"Yes, Yes that is right, VCU," my voice sounded as chipper with a slight giggle, "Welcome back to school to those who decided partying with your parents was not exactly the best plan this holiday season."
"Today, we have a new member to welcome to our rock n roll family," Naomi looked over at Selens and smiled, "Let's give a warm welcome to Lena James, DJ Dollie's cousin!"
Everyone in the studio behved accordingly, cheering and clapping.
"Thanks, everyone," A happy Selena spoke into the microphone, "I will be hosting the new Tuesday and Thursday segments
"You heard right, ladies and gents," I grinned into the mic, "We are now broadcasting almost all week long!"

After our usual length and plenty of laughs later, the four of us walked out of the studio and locked up for the rest of the day. As I went to take a step to walk home, my phone buzzed; I had a text from Andy.
Andybaby: Hey, when you get home, come find me. I have something for you.
Confused and excited, my interests were peaked a bit. Waving at the group, I headed back to the house while Naomi and Selena walked to the Gamestop to meet up with Jake, CC in tow. Jinxx, who had stopped by to check on the skit he and CC were going to run, walked home with me.
"So, you and Andy huh?" he put his hands in his pants pockets and smiled.
"Yea, can you believe it," I shoved my hands into mine, "It feels so surreal, to be honest."
"Dude, we always thought he would stay unmarried forever," He sighed and pulled out a picture of Sammi, "Since we are trying to work things out; I mean, we will be married two years this October."
"Jinxx, that is awesome. She must be an amazing girl for you to want to try and work on your relationship; congrats babe!" I playfully punched him in the shoulder.
"Yea," He sighed and tossed his hair out of his face, "Her band is doing well right now, so she wants to wait to move out here until I finish school."
"That's so cool how she is in a band." I grinned, obviously gushing a tad.

Jinx and I hardly ever got a chance to talk to each other let alone hang out. He was a good friend to me, but very quiet. He kept to himself quite a bit, especially when things started to go south with Sammi. If it wasn't a group outting, he usually was by himself or on the phone with Sammi. She truly was his world, and it made me happy to see she grounded him in a way.
About a block away from the house, two men were making an attempt the light a bon fire in the front yard of the frat house; those two men would be Andy and Ashley. I laughed at their catch the wood ablaze attempt as Jinxx face-palmed himself and shook his head.

Getting closer, Jinxx patted me on the shoulder and went inside, Ashley following suit as he waved and me.
"You know," Andy grabbed me and pulled me close as the wood began to burn successfully, "We are having a party of sorts tonight. I just so happened to buy you a new outfit."
"Oh you did, did you?" I arched my eyebrow in curiousity as he nodded towards our house.
Heading up the front steps and the stairway inside within seconds, I gasped in amazement as I looked at the outfit displayed on the bed; he definitely didn't disappoint.
He had bought me a dress I was watching for a few weeks now. It was knee-length, black with red trim, and in the gothic lotita style I loved. Fishnet stockings and red and black pumps completely the emsamble. Running back down the stairs and flying off the porch, I about tackled him on the ground.
"I love it," my voice was soft and low, face turning red.
"I am glad you do, princess," he held me tightly in his arms, running his finger through the tuff of hair on my head, "I saw you as your face as you looked at it last week and had to buy it."

Smiling and flitting back into the house, I walked over to the calendar.
"If I don't write down those podcast and new radio show schedules I will forg..."
I glance down a red circle around the 27th of December; my period. The period that hadn't come yet, as a matter of fact. I was now four days late.
"Shit," I paced the kitchen, "Shit, shit, shit."
I was too busy beating myself up mentally to hear the front door open as Selena walked up to me, concern look on her face.
"What's up, cuz? Why are you cussing yourself out?"
I looked at the calender and pointed to the date with the red circle around it, then pointed to the 31st swiftly.
"Oh my god, you don't think..." her hands began the slow trek to cover her mouth.
"I don't know, Lena," I was bummed.
I was actually pissed off with myself for not taking the pills when I was supposed to; in fact, I bet Andy would be, too, if I was...
Naomi bounced through the door, Jake in tow, as she caught the look in my eyes; her expression changed suddenly and she stopped moving forward.
"Jake, baby, I'm going to have some girl time before the party tonight," she smiled sweetly, "Go see if the guys need any help with set up, okay?"
"Sure thing babe," he planted a kiss on her forehead, "Let me know if you need me for anything."
A few minutes later, Naomi was looking me in the eyes as I tried to avert he gaze.
"No way, missy, I saw that look."
I pointed to the dates I had pointed at for Selena; her eyes widened as she bit her lip.
"Oh, DJ baby," she hugged me, "Do we need to run out to the store really quick?"
"Yea, but how?" I pointed in the direction of the frat house, "Won't they notice?"
"Let's go see if they need anything else and we can go pick it up if they do, okay?" Naomi linked her arm in mine.

The three of us walked across the lawn and into the front door of the frat house only to come out with a decent shopping list: hot dogs, hamburgers, beer, and Ashley's whiskey. Approaching the grocery store first, Selena and Naomi went off to find the foot items and beer while I wandered alone to collect the item that could seal my fate.
A pregnancy test.
Meeting back up at the self check out, the girls paid for everything and turned in my direction, pointing to the bathroom at the front of the store.
"Go take one," they spoke in unison.
Huffing, I grabbed one out of the box of three I had purchased, and slumped off the the ladies room.
Moments later, I had peed on the damned stick that could forever change my life. Sitting down on the toilet paper dispenser, I closed my eyes for the few minutes I had to wait. Finally, gathering the courage to look, I picked it up ad looked at the results.
"Positive."
"Fuck," I spoke loudly, disturbing the woman in the stall next to me, "Shit, fuck, mother fucking fuck!"
"I beg you're pardon?" the woman was annoyed.
"Uh, sorry ma'am, just found out I was pregnant."
"Oh," the woman giggled nervously, "I'm sorry, I know how you feel. Good luck, dear."
Finally walking out of the bathroom, I handed the stick off to the girls who both gaped at the blue lines.
"Oh God, Deege," Naomi spoke quietly, not taking her eyes off the stick.
"Cuz, what are you going to do?" Selena moved her eyes from the little blue lines to my eyes, concerned.
"Looks like I have to tell Andy." As soon as the words were said, the flood gates opened and tears began falling; not quite a full blown cry, but close.
"No, no no," Naomi shook her head in fright, "Not tonight, DJ. After the party maybe, but not before. That way you can have one last hoorah and be relaxed enough to think clearly, the both of you. You know, to discuss your options."
The walk back to the frat house that afternoon sucked more than it usually did. Moments before, we had stopped my the booze cooler for Ashley, and to pick myself something to "go out with bang" with, so to speak. If I wasn't going to be able to drink for a while, I wanted to get it out of my system.
Heading back to my place before the party, I hopped in the shower knowing Andy was busy setting things up next door. I had texted him earlier, telling him not to come back to the house, and that I wanted the outfit to be a surprise.
"Yea," I laughed at myself, "A surprise is the exact word I need to be using right now."
Putting the outfit on, it fit perfectly. I couldn't help but be sad that it would be one of the only times I might wear it.
"Well, here it goes."
Descending the stairs, I made my way back to the frat house, ready to throw down on my last night before the time of judgement.

Notes

Uh oh... DJ is preggers. What will Andy do?

@IzzieDeadnow

Thank you. Naomi was actually him through and through. Some of her sayings and everything, minus the black/asian race. He was obsessed with a Jpop singer that was black and asian though, which why I chose that. I miss him, but he will always be with me.

I love the story so much, and I'm sorry for your loss @HisPorcelainDoll.
