Disney Princess Remix

The Little Mermaid Part 1

-Ashley's POV-

My name is Ashley Purdy and I live the most restricted life a merman has ever known. Why is that? Because my father is king Triton, who rules over the underwater city in the depths not too far off from the castle. I have absolutely no choice in my planned life. Here's what's supposed to happen from this day forward: Get married off to some mermaid princess and unite our kingdoms, become king, have a couple kids, yada yada yada, all that pale pink coral stuff. Pale pink coral is our equivalent to the expression "white picket fence." What I really want is to be human, to not have my father control me as he has my whole life, to be free, fall in love, and marry at my own will. Sadly, that was not to be, for at this very moment, my father was scheduling my arranged marriage to some mermaid I've never even met. I fantasized about the human world in all of my free time, and took to collecting objects of theirs, a sort of strange obsession, one might say, though it was a habit I first picked up when I was about nine or ten.
"Ashley! Prince Ashley! Your father requests you in the royal hall," my friend and servant crab, Jinxx, informed me. I nodded woefully and swam off with him to find my father in a joyous mood.
"Ah, Ashley, my dear boy, there you are! There you are at last! Here, I have a picture of your future wife engraved on this shell, what do you think? Personally, I think she's quite the looker!" He handed me the pale sunrise colored shell excitedly. I believed that all girls were beautiful in some way, yet I could see that this mermaid was indeed, "quite the looker," as my father had stated. The etching was a gold outline of her figure, with a shredded-fins tail, wavy hair with seashell and seaweed barrettes woven in, and just lovely to look at. I could tell no more from the colorless carving. She was extremely beautiful and attractive, many my age would be drooling over the mere sight of her, yet I felt hardly anything towards this mystery girl except sorrow. She appeared to be about 16, while I was nearly 18. She missed almost two years of the closest thing either of us will ever experience as freedom, still half a child herself. I was sure she would love nothing more than to hang out with her friends, go shopping, swim past the barriers, try to sneak out at night, normal teenage mermaid stuff, while instead, she was being forced into a marriage. Poor girl. My father percieved my silence as awe, not pity, and took the shell back, chuckling.
"You've got a fine one, Ashley. Treat her well, as I know you would any queen," he told me, a dismissal cue.
"Yes, sir," I responded before leaving. I wasn't very close at all with my father. I sighed, swimming into my secret grotto to watch the human world, hoping that no one was watching where I was going. Twisting through the small, stone gap in the wall, I made my way out of the deep and closer to the coast to find my rock with a fantastic view of the castle in which I dreamed to live in. Hours passed, and no one came to look for me. Surprise, surprise, haha no, this was typical. However, as the gorgeous sunset of vivid streaks faded to night, I noticed a ship drawing nearer and dove into the water. I knew I wasn't supposed to, but I swam up to catch a better glance at the dark, wooden, floating object on which a party appeared to be in full swing. Quietly and unseen, I grabbed a fistful of the net dangling down by the side and hoisted myself up, climbing slightly out of the water. There, I could see everything. The human prince and his friends were celebrating his birthday, playing music and drinking some sort of gold elixar that made them woozy. As the prince was stumbling around on deck, I managed to catch his eye for a moment before falling back into the waves, breathless. He was so beautiful. So, so beautiful. His piercing eyes were that of the aqua stars glimmering above, of the bright October sky, of the deepest ocean shades. His hair was black as night, dark as the sunless abyss farther down at the bottom of the sea. His skin was nearly as pale as moonlight, as white coral, as the skelatons of those who had drowned in these waters. He was beautiful. So, so, beautiful. And I, Ashley, the heir to the merman throne, could not erase the memory of him from my mind.

Notes

Ok, so here's a list of stuff because I don't have much time-
1. Sorry it's been forever
2. Sorry this chapter is short
3. I got a request for Frozen, but because that is the only Disney princess movie in which they teach girls that you don't always need a guy to save you, I am having a difficult time coming up with a plan that keeps that theme and adds Andley. Also, it's a much more modern, complicated, and difficult tale to re-write, so that will take me longer to figure out. It will be here sometime, though!
4. Hope y'all liked this!!

Yay!! Just wanted to make sure people still liked these and all. Sorry about Frozen, btw. I put it on the list and realized later how hard it would be to re-make without changing the theme. I'll think of something and it will be here sometime, though!!
