Sleeping Beauty Part 2

-Time Skip-Three years-

-Andy's POV-

I woke up on my 16th birthday to the sound of arguing. My smile faded as I walked downstairs to find my three aunts cross with each other.
"I tell you, it was the dayofhis 16th birthday!" Rose insisted.
"No, it was the dayafter!" Flora protested.
"Hush, the boy is here," Violet silenced them. "We must tell him the truth. He is of age and must not be kept ignorant any longer."
"Kept ignorant of what?" I asked. "What's going on?" Flora sighed.
"Come with us into the living room." I followed them there, confused as to what was happening. I sat down in a chair across from them, who shared the couch. Rose took a deep breath.
"Andy, we always told you that you didn't have parents; that we found you abandoned in the woods. That's not true. That's not what happened. You're the prince, Andy, son of the king and queen. As a baby, an evil and cruel faerie by the name of Maleficent cursed you to fall into an eternal sleep on your 16th birthday, only to be awakened by true love's kiss. Naturally, your father and mother were terrified and feared greatly for your safety. In response, they cast you out of the kingdom with us as your guardians, only to return home on your 16th birthday. We're sorry, dearie," auntie Rose apologized, tear leaking from one eye. Violet stared at the floor, Flora gazed out the window. None knew what to say. I didn't, either. I was cursed? Hell, I was the prince?! Well, one thing was clear. None of this was their fault. I stood up and approached them, giving them all hugs.
"You're not mad?" Flora asked in surprised. "We just told you your whole life has been a lie."
"It's not your fault. It's no one’s fault. People just wanted to keep me safe." I didn't know why I was so ok with this, I guess it was because everyone had the right intentions.
"I guess you'll be leaving for the castle today, then," Violet said. "Your mother and father will be dying to see you again." I nodded.
"Could I say goodbye to Ashley first?"
"Of course, Andy." I ran over to Ashley's house as fast as I could. I didn't care if I was the prince. I wanted to stay here, with him. Truth be told, I loved him now, and as Violet told me those years ago, I knew it for a fact. I wanted Ashley to hold me in his arms as he told me he loved me, kissing away my tears, telling me I never had to leave. But I couldn't do that, he didn't feel the same way about me, and that was what hurt the most. Tears in my eyes, I told him everything except my feelings towards him. Now, I was hugging Ashley goodbye for the final time. Honestly, this was the longest time I had been this close to him. I wanted so badly to kiss him, but I couldn't. Strange how just yesterday, everything was perfect, and now my whole life was being uprooted.

-Time Skip-At the castle-

You'd think that my parents would be overjoyed to see their son, the heir to the throne, for the first time in 16 years. Haha, funny joke, the first thing they did was send me to my room, which I had to be escorted to, because apparently I was still in danger. As Rose told Flora, I was meant to return the day after my birthday. So here I was, sulking on my bed, unaware of the passing time until my stomach began to growl. I sighed and tried the door for the 7th time. Locked, of course. But I was starving, there had to be some way to get out of here. I opened up the window and glanced out, examining the distance and considering my odds. If I climbed down the wall and reached that balcony...Yes! I had a way out. Carefully and very slowly, I edged myself out, gasping when I was finally dangling from the windowsill. I cursed myself for my stupidity and hunger, but there was no going back now. I closed my eyes and swung back and forth before at last thinking of Ashley and letting go, falling to the balcony and spraining my ankle.
"Ah," I groaned in pain, managing to stand up. Whatever injuries I had were typically immediately healed with magic. From the balcony, I reached the ground, and was prepared to look for the kitchen when all of a sudden, I lost myself in a trance. Something, something out there was calling me to the garden. The moon was a glowing white rose in the sky, perched among the aqua splatter of stars as I wandered beyond the boundries that kept me safe. I was caught in a spell as I approached the silver needle, waiting for 16 years on the edge of a wooden spindle. Waiting 16 years for me. The last thing I saw before I blacked out was my finger reaching for it, and a blast of bright emerald fire.

-Ashley's POV-

Andy was gone. He had left me against his will, and now I was alone. I missed him so much, I was crying my eyes out silently as I laid in bed awake that night. I loved him more than anything, I really did. But the feeling wasn't mutual, he was destined to marry some gorgeous princess, not some peasant farmer boy who he was friends with. I rose late the next morning, lethargic and exhausted by his absence. What could I say, I had given my heart to him, and he took it with him when he left. I visited the cottage, but it was empty, save for a few belongings he didn't have room for. Still, I didn't want to leave. Then I found an envelope with my name written on it in script.
Ashley-
You don't know this, and I never told anyone, not even Flora or Rose. Andy loved you. He still does to this day. I watch over him some nights, to make sure Maleficent doesn't return, and he never once failed to mumble your name. He cares for you a lot, Ashley. You've been the best friend he ever could have had. I just thought you had the right to know how much he wishes it were more than friendship.
-Violet
I gasped, dropping the letter. Andy loved me? Me, of all people? Well, I guess there weren't many people in his life, but still. I had to go to the castle. I had to see him and tell him how I felt. Quickly, I ran home and wrote a note to my parents explaining everything before taking a random, chestnut colored horse from the stable and heading for the castle. When I arrived at the palace, I was shocked to find the guards asleep at the drawbridge and Flora weeping as she flew towards me.
"Ashley! Oh thank god you're here! The curse-Andy has slipped into an eternal sleep, along with the entire kingdom! Violet told us before she sank under the spell, you must save him!" she cried. "Rose collapsed a little earlier, and I can feel myself fading. Maleficent has taken over the castle, you must fight your way inside," she told me, stumbling to the ground before falling with her eyes closed. "Go," she whispered. I meant to do exactly as she said, but at that moment, black brambles rose up from the earth, twisting into a deadly forest of thorns, fencing in the palace. And around me, a dark prison, a cage of the tangled, wooden vine, and in the distance, a harsh cackle as neon green flames raged from inside the castle grounds where Andy was trapped.

-Princess Cassia's POV-

I am a princess, and my name is Cassia. Being a princess, everything is already decided for you, my life has no choices whatsoever, but ever since I learned to talk and walk, I have been determined to change that. I became a warrior, training in secret. Word travels fast amongst kingdoms, and I caught wind of a prince named Andy in a neighboring land who was cursed and under attack from an evil faerie. This was my final chance to prove myself to my father. If I could slay the beast and save the prince, maybe I could gain a little freedom. So here I was, on my way by horseback, towards Biersack Castle. The earth grew darker as I neared, a black, woven woods surrounded the castle. Drawing my sword, I began to slice away at it, fearless of the emerald fire burning within, when I heard sobs. I followed them, hoping to find the prince, but instead discovered a poor farmer boy with tears running down his face.
"Oh please!" he begged when he saw me, a strange, silver armored knight atop a sleek black horse. "Let me come with you to help save the prince! He can only be awakened by a true love's kiss!" Bullcrap, I wasn't taking this, the kid was probably going to rob me or something. But he looked desperate and maybe a year younger than me.
"What's your name?" I asked cautiously.
"Ashley," he responded. "I-I'm a friend of Andy's."
"How do I know I can trust or even believe you?"
"Because I can set him free. Please, all you need to do is let me trail behind," he pleaded. Time was running out before Maleficent would grow bored of her light show and try something new. And besides, this was my last chance to prove myself. I shook my head.
"No. I'm sorry." I turned away and began hacking at the branches again.
"And what do you expect to do when you've destroyed Maleficent? He can only be woken by a true love's kiss, you don't even know him." Good point.
"Well, it's not like you could wake him up."
"I love him," he said quietly. I stopped for a moment.
"What?"
"I love him," he repeated. "And if you let me come, you can fight her while I set him free. Go ahead, take all the credit and convince Andy you were the one to do it, you can marry him, I don't care. I just want to wake him up and kiss him. Just once." There were tears playing at the corners of his eyes when he told me I could marry him if I wished. I felt a sort of sickness in my stomach when I thought of stealing away another's love.
"You can tag along," I grumbled. "As long as I get Maleficent and can prove myself to my father." He nodded in relief.
"Thank you." And so I continued to slice at the brambles dark as crows, dark as shadows flying in the empty, midnight air.

-Ashley's POV-

Bless this person, whoever she may be. I could tell from her voice that she was female, but all that remained beneath that was mystery. I needed someone to take on Maleficent for me, and thankfully, she was there. It was a little awkward to tell her about my feelings for Andy, but this was life and death hanging in the balance, I couldn't care less. I knew we were close when the burning heat seared the edges of the black forest and her laughter grew louder.
"So the little princess is here to save the day, huh?" she giggled when we broke through the gate. She was pale, dressed in black with giant, black angel wings and dark horns portruding from her head, something from a nightmare gone wild. "And let me guess, peasant boy here is gonna kiss his true love and wake him up? Well, let me tell you something, sweetheart," she mocked sarcasticly, grabbing my chin with her dark, long, curved, clawlike hands and looking me in the eye with her green ones. "He doesn't love you. He never has, and never will. Why would he? There's nothing special about you, you're just a poor, gay, farmer boy with no future. Face it, honey, I'm winning this game and only reason you're still breathing is because I want entertainment." There were tears in my eyes at her stinging words, but it was at that moment that my mysterious partner decided to strike, chopping at her with her sword. Maleficent pulled away, hissing, and I ran off immediately. I had to find Andy. She was wrong, she had to be, he did love me, Violet said so in her letter. I ran and ran until I worried I passed him, but a moment later, I spied him collapsed in the garden amongst the fallen roses.
"Andy!" I cried, dashing over to his side. "Oh god," I wept, fearing somehow he had died. There was no time to lose. Quickly but slow enough to savor the moment, I pressed my lips to his. They were cold and lifeless seeming, but I didn't care, he was alive and still my Andy all the same. Yet even when I pulled away, he didn't wake up. He didn't even stir. Tears dripped from my eyes, remembering Maleficent's words. He didn't love me. Maybe he cared for me a lot as a friend, but he didn't love me. If he did, he would have woken up. A tear splattered on his face just below his eye, and I wiped it away. "There, there, Andy. No need for tears. I'm just sorry I wasn't good enough." I felt like leaving should be the right thing to do, but I wanted to stay with him, to die by his side. His head was resting limply in my arms before he all of a sudden grabbed the back of my neck with freezing hands, half sitting up, and kissed me.
"Ashley," he whispered once he pulled away. "Did you-were you the one who woke me up?" I nodded, new tears of joy in my eyes.
"Yes, Andy, I was. I love you. I was so afraid that you didn't feel the same way when you didn't wake up, and I-I thought you were dead." I gasped, realizing something.
"She's still fighting Maleficent."
"Who is?"
"Some knight who helped free me when I was trapped in a cage of brambles. She wants to prove herself to her father or something by battling Maleficent, I persuaded her to let me come along to free you. Come on, we have to help her," I told him as we both stood up and ran back to the source of green fire.

-Princess Cassia's POV-

I wasn't used to losing, whether it was to a dragon, a corrupted siren, or dark spirit, I never failed to achieve victory. But this screeching faerie was pushing it. My leg was injured, my arms ached, and I was bleeding and burnt in several places. Yet I wasn't the only one suffering. One of her horns lay on the ground, oozing emerald blood that could surely be traded for pure gold. Using the last of my strength, I blocked her next blazing fireball with my blackened shield and struck my sword through her chest where I assumed her heat beat. As I predicted, she screamed in pain, burning in her own green fire as she disappeared within the tinted flames. I collapsed in exhaustion. Another dangerous being conquered. I drifted off to sleep, the last thing I saw was Ashley and the prince, Andy, rushing towards me.
