Love's End

"So... what do we tell the guys?"
"Well, we tell them we went drinking, stayed at a hotel for a few days to work off our hang overs, and move on. We can't tell them the vampire part, they'd freak out." Ashley told me reasonably, like he'd thought this through.
"That's not what I meant." He blanched.
"Oh."
"I mean.. we don't have to tell them I guess... I know you're not exactly out of the closet..."
"I thought you wouldn't want to tell them." He told me, his arms pulled away from their spot around my waist.
"Why not? They know I'm gay."
"Yeah, but now you're with me..."
"So?" I asked, very confused at this point.
"Well... I just thought you might be a little ashamed of me." He muttered, not looking up. I'd never seen Ashley look so.. vulnerable. Like one wrong word could break him. I sighed and wrapped my arms around his chest, pulling him against mine.
"Ashley, I love you. I could never be ashamed of you." He nodded and I pulled him close.

"Let me be the one who calls you baby all the time.
Surly you can take some comfort knowing that you're mine
Just hold me tight,
Lay by my side,
And let me be the one to call you baby all the time."
I continued to sing softly to Ash as he fell asleep, curling into my side, smiling slightly into my neck.
"Sleep tight, I love you."
