Spin the Bottle

Chapter 11

-Andy's POV-

"So my love," I questioned. "Where are we going now?"
"Well, due to the fact that I am sadly, highly, unprepared for your birthday, we are going to go to the store and buy some cake mix to bake your birthday cake!" Ashley said excitedly. "Unless you would rather get a store-made one or bake it from scratch," he added.
"No, that sounds perfect," I told him. I wished I could kiss him, but he was driving, and that would distract him. We pulled up to the supermarket, grabbed a shopping cart, and headed for the baking isle.
"Ok, so what kind of cake do you want?" He asked as we both stared at the impressively long wall of different types of cake mix.
"Uhh..." There were a ton to choose from. "How about whatever's easiest? I don't know about you, but I'm a pretty sucky baker."
"Yeah, I'm not the best, either. Chocolate?"
"Chocolate." So we purchesed a couple boxes of devil's food cake, just in case we messed up on the first one, which was likely to happen. The drive to his house from there was short, and no one else was home except for us. It was so strange to think that a day ago, it was Christmas morning at my house. Huh. It really wasn't that cold here, like Ashy said. I mean, I was wearing a heavy sweater, but didn't need anymore than that, visible breath was the only sign of winter. We put the first box of cake mix on the counter and began.
"Ok, so it says the first step is to wash our hands and get out all of the materials," Ashley said.
"Um, where are the bowls, how many do we need, and how big should they be?" I asked after we had washed our hands. This was going to be a really awkward baking session, niether of us were cooks.
"The cabinet," he replied, pointing to it. "Try two big bowls, I'll get out the measuring cups." I finally found what he meant after a few moments of rummaging around.
"Next, preheat the oven," I read aloud.
"What do we set it to?" I checked the back of the box again.
"350." Once we were prepared and had the ingrediants laid out as well, the real challenge awaited. Baking an actual, edible, and preferably tasty, cake.
"First is the eggs, right?" I asked, unsure.
"I don't know, what does the box say?" I glanced at it.
"Wait, dry ingrediants first. The flour and stuff."
"How much do we need?"
"Uh, like two cups of flour." And so we began.
"Ok, now time for the eggs," Ashley announced nervously a little later. "We need two, you can crack one and I'll crack one." He went first, only having to retrieve one shell. I tapped mine lightly on the side of the bowl, afraid that any harder would litter the bowl with broken shells and we'd have to start over, and he laughed at my attempt.
"Well, you've got to do it a bit harder than that!" He took my hand holding the egg and steadied it, tapping with just enough pressure that it split open perfectly, no shells.
"Thanks. I'm really not good at this," I admitted to him. He pressed his lips to mine softly.
"Andy, I couldn't care less about your non-existant baking skills, you're perfect," he told me.
"Not as perfect as you," I responded smoothly, knowing completely how corny it was.
"Oh no, we're not going to be one of those couples, are we?" He groaned.
"No. What does it say next?" I chuckled. Finally, the cake was in the oven and I was snuggled up to Ashley on the couch cuddling. That was it. We weren't even watching a movie or anything, just me sitting on his lap with my head resting on his shoulder in silence, with a fuzzy blanket covering the two of us. We were both just tired and daydreaming, but a beep from the oven alerted us awake again.
"Time to take the cake out!" Ashley cried, and we dashed over to the oven to check on it. He poked a knife through it and declared it finished when it came out clean. Carefully, he set it down on a placemat where it could cool. He sighed in relief.
"Alright, now that it's finished, what would you like to do, darling? It's about 5:00, should we order pizza? It will come at like, 5:30, and we could have a Batman marathon tonight," he suggested.
"YES!" I yelled, picking him up and kissing him like I did yesterday. What can I say, it was fun, and he liked it, too. "I love you, my Ashes."

-Time Skip-Later that night-

-Ashley's POV-

After pizza and cake, which had actually turned out pretty awesome considering neither of us were good at baking, we were again snuggled up on the couch, this time watching Batman. It was the climax scene, and I thought Andy had fallen asleep on me before I heard him whisper the words.
"Andy, do you have the words memorized?" I laughed.
"Please, I've got the credits memorized," he replied, sitting up and putting an arm around me and turning to face me. I was caught in his beautiful gaze with those piercing blue eyes of his, lost in a blissful dream as he leaned in to kiss me. It was long and deep, yet soft and over far too soon. But Batman had finished saving the day when we pulled apart.
"Good thing you know what happens," I breathed when it was over. Then I remembered something. "Oh! I know what we have to do next!" He looked confused.
"What? It's like 10:00, the day's almost over."
"Surprise," I responded, getting up off the couch. "Bring a comfortable sweater and your favorite pillow or blanket," I told him as I dashed off to gather what I needed. A mattress. Pillows. Blankets. All piled and organized into the back of my pickup truck to make a mobile bed of some sort. I grabbed Andy's stuff and tossed them back there, too, when he came downstairs with them, still puzzled.
"Where are we going, Ashy?"
"Still a surprise, babe. Get in the car, I promise you'll love this." I kept him in suspense as I drove along, almost missing the disguised turnoff, but never forgetting where to find the hidden, secret, unpaved road to the forest. Finally, I pulled into the field and stopped the car.
"Ta da!" I announced, opening the door for Andy.
"Ummm... I still don't know what's going on, Ashy. Where are we?"
"Look up," I told him, and when he did, he gasped.
"Ashley, this is so beautiful," he breathed in disbelief. This was a place far away from town, nearly in the middle of the forest, where you could see every single dot of aqua in a midnight sky. Stars were splattered across the night like rain, the moon was our only source of light to illuminate the leafy, green, lilac forest that surrounded us.
"Happy birthday, Andy," I whispered as we held hands, both lost in the picture perfect scene above us. "Now come on." I lead him to the back of the truck and climbed on our mobile bed.
"You filled the back with pillows and blankets?" He laughed, joining me.
"Yup. Now we can cuddle and stargaze," I told him as he wrapped his arms around me and kissed me.
"I love you, my Ashes. You're the best boyfriend anyone could ever dream of having. Honestly, I consider myself to be the luckiest guy alive with you in my arms," he said as we stared at the midnight show above us.
"Aw, Batman, I love you, too. And it's beyond my wildest dreams how a simple person like me ended up with you," I responded, blushing.
"Batman?"
"Yeah, that's my new cute boyfriend nickname for you. Do you like it?"
"Love it." He kissed my cheek, and we fell asleep nestled into each others arms underneath a starry sky.

Notes

I'm sorry I haven't updated in like a week!! This was supposed to be out on Thursday at latest, but clearly, that was not what happened. I'll try to update more regularly, but it's hard with school and homework and stuff. Yes, there will be smut in the next chapter, but it will be the worst and most censored you have ever read. Anyway, hope everyone liked this!!
