My Legacy

White Liar

Juliet's POV: We leave the hospital where Christina had her physical therapy, and from the backseat I hear Emily ask Christina, "So, how did it feel being on your own two feet again?"
"It was alright, I guess," Christina answers, sounding a little disappointed.
"You guess? This has been your dream since that fucker hit us and caused all this," Emily argues.
"Yeah, but I could have done better than what I did," Christina counters, rolling her eyes.
"That's bullshit. You did amazing! Even Dr. Ashton was impressed!" Emily continues to argue, "You heard him. He said he's never seen anything like that before."
"Yeah," is all Christina says in return, then asked me, "So, where to now, Juliet?"
"That's up to you. Do you want me to take you back to CC's or do you want me to go to the studio to hang out for a bit?" I ask, as we stop at a red light.
"Studio, please," she says, and I notice there's something more in her tone. Fear. She's afraid, but why?
I then look at the cross streets and gasp. I now know why she's so afraid. This is the light she got hit at. The place where her life went from self-sustaining and independent, to being in a wheelchair and needing help all the time now.
When the light turns green, I make sure nothing's coming before pulling out carefully. Once past the intersection, Christina sighs, as if she's been holding her breath. Who knows? Maybe she has been.
A few more minutes of driving and I pull into the studio's parking lot and when the car's in park, Emily gets out to get Christina's wheelchair from the back. As we walk over to get her from the front seat though, she's standing, using the door and the seat to hold herself up.
"Film," Emily tells me, pushing the camera at me, and I point it at Christina as she gets her bearings and lifts one foot.
She sets it down in front of her and releases the door and seat, only to place her hand on the side of my car for balance. She continues walking over to the chair, while Emily gets ready to catch her, should the time arrive. But it doesn't. Christina makes it to her chair and sits in it all by herself.
"Now, how do you feel?" I ask, pointing the camera at her face.
She smiles up at me and says, "Now that was impressive. Not what I did at therapy, but what I did just now, so to answer your question, I'm not where I want to be, but I feel better that I can walk a little bit now."
"That's awesome. I'm glad, girl," Emily says, smiling at her best friend as I shut the camera off.
Christina's POV: As we go up to the studio, I tell Juliet and Emily to not tell the guys yet. I want to show them the video later when I can actually walk again. They agree to help me basically lie to the guys and Juliet hides the camera in her bag.
When we enter the studio, we go into the room the guys are all in, while Andy belts out the lyrics to a song I've yet to hear. We quietly listen as Andy sings, "Who will remember this last goodbye? Cause it's the end and I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid to die. Not afraid! I'm not afraid to die. Not, Not afraid! I'm not afraid to die."
"That was awesome, man!" John says to Andy, after the music stops and then Andy sees us and smiles widely as he exits the booth and walks over to us.
He hugs and kisses Juliet, then hugs Emily and me, as he asked, "So, how'd therapy go?"
I force my smile to fade and look at Emily and Juliet who have pretend sad looks on their faces, but the guys seem to not notice how fake our looks are.
I give a shaky sigh and say, "Not as well as I'd hoped."
"I'm sorry, sis," Christian says, hugging me tightly.
"Not your fault. Shit happens," I tell him.
"Well, come on in, girls. You don't have to stay in the doorway," Andy says, walking over to one of the leather sofas and sitting down, pulling Juliet onto his lap. Christian does the same for Emily and Ashley picks me up and sets me on his lap.
I think it's kind of funny that Ash does this kind of thing for me. He knows I hate my wheelchair with a passion, so he is always picking me up and taking me out of it, just so I can feel normal again.
I hope by the end of them recording the new album I'll be walking again like I used to, but if not, then I'll just have to wait until they get back from tour to show off.
The guys talk animatedly about the new album and Andy asked if Emily, Juliet, and I would be willing to help out some. We all agree to, and he seems really happy about it.
He then passes us a copy of something from his notebook, and I read it. It's lyrics to a song he's titled "Lost it All" and I suck in a lungful of air as I read them. He then starts singing the song to us, so we know the rhythm.
"I ruled the world, with these hands I shook the Heavens to the ground. I laid the Gods to rest. I held the key to the kingdom, lions guarding castle walls. Hail the King of Death. Then I lost it all, dead and broken. My backs against the wall, cut me open. I'm just trying to breath, just trying to figure it out, because I built these walls to watch them crumbling down. I said, then I lost it all, and who can save me now? I stood above another war, another jewel upon the crown. I was the fear of man. But I was blind. I couldn't see the world there right in front of me. But now, I can. Yeah! Because I lost it all, dead and broken. My backs against the wall. Cut me open, I'm just trying to breath, just trying to figure it out, because I built these walls to watch them crumbling down I said, then I lost it all, and who can save me now?" he sings, then stops and says, "Then Jinxx would come in with a violin part and after that is when you girls will come in. Pending on who's voice really stands out the most will depend on who gets one of the two leads and which two will get the backups. You see, we also have a friend coming in to help with it as well."
"Who is it?" Juliet asked.
"Roberta Freeman," Andy tells her, and we are all excited about that one. She truly is a legend! And we're going to be singing with her!
"Oh, my God, I can't wait! When is she coming in?" I ask.
"Three days from now," he tells me and my stomach twists.
"Alright," I reply, trying to sound excited still, but not really feeling it. What if when she comes in, I'm at therapy? I wouldn't get to sing with her or even meet her.
"What's wrong?" Ashley asked, noticing this.
"I have physical therapy that day," I tell him.
"What time?" Christian asked.
"3," I tell him.
"She won't be here until 4. You should be back before she leaves," Andy tells me, and I feel myself relax some. I hope he's right.
"Alright, but if I'm not, get an autograph for me, at least?" I ask Ashley.
He laughs and says, "Not a problem, babe."
