Jayelle's P.O.V.
Bomb. There's a bomb. In this warehouse.
Bomb.
Andy and I looked at each other with wide eyes, and as I got closer to them I heard the near silent ticking. I felt a sickening pull in my stomach.
"Stay still. Keep her quiet and still."
Andy nodded and cradled the girl, sitting in the floor against the wall with her in his lap, I pressed my ear to the wall and tried to decipher where the ticking was coming from. It grew louder and louder until I was right on top of it. Luckily I had a tool that could serve as a hammer. I beat against the concrete walls until the ticking was no longer muffled, picked away at the concrete until the wirey bomb was revealed. While I was carefully examining it I came to realize that it was not a fiery explosive bomb, it was a chemical bomb.
Birdcage.
This is couldn't be right.. They had placed these bombs in the major cities.
You're in New York, dumbass.
But this is a remote warehouse, they would put them somewhere where the people gathered. Unless..
They're after you.
I felt panic rise within me. I had two respirator masks, looked like doctor's masks but of course, Cathedral quality. They would intake only oxygen and block out anything harmful. I slowly put mine on, latex gloves, and tossed one to Andy. When he put his on he pulled his out, helping the small girl put hers on. And then I started working.
After two hours of risky wire cutting, I had temporarily diffused the bomb.
"Get out. Take her back to the hospital, go find where the blonde girl is, and get out."
Andy's eyes were confused, shocked maybe. He opened his mouth to spill out an obvious no.
"I'm not going to leave you here to die. You're crazy. We still have time, come on." He was panicking. Angry and scared. i walked to him and placed a soft kiss to his lips.
"You have to go."
"Bu-"
"Go. Trust me," I begged.
We wrapped our arms around each other for at least 3 minutes.
"I love you"
"I love you more than anything. I promise you'll see me out of here."
I saw them rush out of the building, with one last pleading look to me.
As the door closed, I counted my seconds until this building went to the floor.
