The Overprotective One

I tensed up as Ashley screamed his confession. Holy Shit, my best friend is in love with my sister. I can't let this happen. I stood up and left the room and went back to the bunks to where my sister was. She was humming a Bring Me The Horizon song. I sighed and crawled onto the bunkwith her. Nyx snuggled into my chest and I sighed, put my arms around her shoulders, and hugged her. She pulled out her earbuds and paused the music. I hugged her tighter into my chest.

"We will be off tour in two days. Then it will be you and me, just you and me kiddo. Three months of Andy and Nyx." She sighed. She opened her lips to speak, but when she couldn't find what she wanted to say, her mouth closed and pressed itself into a straight firm line. Her forehead wrinkled in concentration as tried to focus. My right hand rubbed up and down her right arm. I had no idea what to do but I sat waiting until she spoke.

"You change Andy. You are two different people. The first person is when you are with me, and just me or just with your friends. And then there is the person when you are with both of us. You become angry with the world, or yourself, I don't know, but I just wish you could give me my space. Let me be who I want to be. You think you are protecting me and you aren't." By this point her voice had gone for questioning, to sad, then into furious. "I want to you to be one person, Andy. I want to have a fun and loving brother, but one who knows when to draw the line. Not just on the fun with both of us, but the fun I have with other people. Can you do that?" I sighed.

"No, I can't. I am mad at the world and myself. I wish that I knew what to do . I tried so hard to keep you from harm, and I have to protect you when you are with others. But I know you are safe with me." I smiled at her.
