I'm Nobody's Hero

I'm Nobody's Hero

Andy logged onto his Twitter and groaned as he saw how many notifications he had. 300+. This was a good day. On some days, he could have over 1,000 notifications. He really needed to create a Twitter specifically for his friends and family. It might clear this issue up. He sighed and started clearing through tweets, looking for any by his band or his parents, even something from Juliet. Nothing. He was about to log off when a certain tweet caught his eye.

" '@andybvb please help me. I want to die.' - 4min ago"

He hesitated. This could just be some little fangirl wanting attention. But it could be a seriously suicidal person, looking for help. It didn't take long for his conscience to win out. He followed them and then sent a direct message.

'Hey... What's wrong?'

He watched for a reply before going to play a round of Arkham Asylum.

...

An hour later, Andy went back to his laptop, checking his messages.

'Andy? I just want to die.'

It had been sent seven minutes ago.

'Why would you want to do that?'

'Because my life sucks. I have nothing to live for.'

'Why?'

'My father abuses me. My mother is dead. My siblings hate me. I'm constantly bullied. What is there for me to live for?'

'Because this won't last forever. I know it seems like it will but I promise it won't. You just have to stick it out.'

'I know this sounds weird but... Could we Skype? If you're not Andy it'll be so depressing.'

'Sure we can.'

They exchanged usernames and Andy sent the call request. The video kicked in and he looked up and swallowed hard. A young girl was staring at something, pen moving quickly as she wiped a tear. She looked up and Andy was able to see her face. Soft amber hair glimmered in the light, pale green eyes looked intently at the webcam; eyes that held a deep sadness, one that Andy knew all too well. She licked her pale red lips and swallowed.

"H-Hi..."

"Hi sweetheart."

"I'm Angelie..."

"Hi Angelie, I'm Andy. It's lovely to meet you."

"You too..."

"What's wrong, hmm?"

"I'm sick of my life."

Humourless peals of laughter fell from her lips and she shrugged.

"Yourself?"

"Just been busy writing new songs. Talk to me. Tell me everything."

...

Andy was nearly in tears by the time Angelie had finished her story.

"And that's my life..."

"Oh Angelie... You poor thing. But listen to me. You can never let things like this beat you down. PROMISE me not to give up. Never give in, never back down, am I right?"

She sniffed and ran a hand through her hair.

"Y-Yes. I suppose you are."

"Angelie, what state do you live in?"

"Virginia. Why?"

"I'm just wondering sweetheart. Hey, what's your second name?"

"Promise not to laugh?"

"I swear."

"Anderson."

"I love it."

Angelie smiled softly at his words and Andy texted their agent under the table.

'Angelie Anderson. The band's gonna meet her. But keep it a secret from her.'

"Well Angelie. I have to go. Promise me not to give in. We can talk tomorrow. I promise sweetheart."

She nodded and waved her goodbye before ending the call. Andy smiled a little before heading off to Ashley's to call the guys and tell them the plan.

...

Andy and Angeline had Skyped every night since that first Monday. It had been three weeks and now the band were on their way to Virginia to meet her. Andy had to admit, he was excited. He was going to meet someone who's life he had saved. He looked over at CC, attempting to play Jinxx's guitar, chuckling at the awful noise coming out of it. Andy turned his head to look out of the window again and smiled softly. He couldn't wait to meet Angelie in person.

...

Andy got ready on the bus, knowing that Angelie would be bought on by security. He was humming along to Nobody's Hero on his earphones, jumping when someone threw his arms around him.

"Thank you so much!"

Andy smiled and turned his head to kiss Angelie's cheek before turning and holding her tight. The music crackled from his earbuds and Angelie took hold of one.

"You know, Andy. You're wrong. You aren't nobody's hero. You're MY hero."
