Road Trip
“A road trip?” I asked when Andy told me his big plan.
“A road trip.” He said with a smile. “My mom wanted to see us after Warped and I know how much you hate long plane rides.”
“So you’re going to torture me by making me send hours upon hours in a car with you.” I joked, though I was nervous about it. It was the day after my little break down and I knew that Andy was waiting for the other shoe to drop. I have to admit so was I.
“Yes. And we leave in two hours so finish eating and go pack.” He said and then left the bedroom.
I looked at my untouched bowl of cereal and got up to throw it away. I wasn’t feeling 100% yet, and wasn’t really hungry. “So where are we going?” I asked throwing the cereal in the garbage. Andy was watching me and I knew he wanted to say something but he didn’t. “Besides the obvious?” I cleaned my dish and put it away.
“I’m not really sure yet. I know Balboa Park in San Diego and Mesa Verde in Colorado.”
I smiled, remembering that I told him that I always wanted to go to Mesa Verde. “So what vehicle are we taking?” I asked wondering if he had anything else actually figured out.
He grinned, “I rented one.”
“What kind of car?” I asked, suspicious of the grin.
“The Bat Mobile.”
It wasn’t actually the Bat Mobile. It was a black 2012 Dodge Challenger with a Hemi, which reminded Andy of the Bat Mobile. It was a very sexy car I had to admit, I always loved muscle cars.

San Diego was only a few hours away and before we did anything we checked into our hotel. It was on the bay front near the Gas Lamp district and Seaport Village so it was nice and breezy and not too hot. “Can’t we just stay here the whole trip?” I asked falling onto the bed.
“Well we could but that would break my poor father’s heart. He was so looking forward to finally meeting you.” Andy said lying down beside me so he was on his side looking down at me.
I bit my lip nervously. Did they know about everything? I hadn’t thought about it until he mentioned them. They probably hated me now. “Do they know about everything?” I asked.
Andy nodded, “I tell my parents everything. But they don’t hate you, they’re just glad that you’re okay.” I sighed and turned my head so that I was looking out the window. “So I was thinking that we could go to Balboa Park and eat at Prado. Then go to the Museum of Man.”
“Didn’t you just eat on the way?” I asked looking back at him.
“Yes but you didn’t.” He answered. “And if I remember right you haven’t eaten yet since the big Finale Party.”
I looked up at the ceiling. “Fine I’ll eat.”
“Thank you.” He said and kissed me on the forehead.

“Admit it we’re lost.” I said with a smirk on my face. We were in this little garden place in between two buildings.
“We’re not lost. I know exactly where we are.” He answered.
“But you don’t know where the restaurant is.” I chuckled.
“Well maybe I don’t.” He said. “But I’m not going to admit it.”
I smiled and took his hand, “I’ll show you.” I went back the way we came and through a little walkway with a coffee cart in it. Behind the cart was a little courtyard with a fountain and to the side of the fountain was the restaurant. “Guys should never do the navigating.”
“Hey I got us here didn’t I?” He said defending himself.
I laughed, “Because you were following big signs that said ‘San Diego’.”

After we ate we went to the Museum of Man (it was easier to find because it was inside of a huge Spanish Cathedral). On the first level they had a recreation of some huge stone carvings made by one of the Indian tribes in Mexico. Then on the next level they had a human ancestor (Neanderthals, hominids and the likes) which I was really excited about. I definitely had a nerd moment. Andy laughed as I dragged him around the exhibit.
We came to a recreation of a cave with cave paintings. Barely giving Andy enough time to duck I dragged him into it. “This is so cool.” I said touching one of the cave paintings.
“You’re really enjoying this.” Andy noted with a smile.
I nodded, “Yeah…” Before I could say anything else Andy kissed me. It felt like the time after he first said he loved me. Like the previous months had never happened.
“Ewwww….” A little boy’s voice interrupted the moment. “That’s disgusting, girls have cooties.”
Andy laughed and looked at the kid as I pretended to be extremely fascinated in the bare cave wall. “No they don’t, that’s just a myth. Girls are awesome…believe me I’m an expert.”
“Really?” The kid asked like he didn’t believe Andy.
“Really.” Andy answered.
The little boy ran off and I laughed. “Shaping the minds of the future.”
Andy smiled and shrugged, “Just teaching the truth so we don’t have to worry about idiots screwing us over in the future.”
“I was going to say that it was cute and sweet but when you put it that way…”
“Again with using the words cute and sweet to describe me. I’m a frickin asshole and I pride myself in it.” Andy responded.
“Oh okay.” I answered and led him to the next exhibit.

We had just enough time to make it to the Natural History Museum. My favorite part was the special skulls exhibit. They had skulls from all sorts of animals laid out from gorillas to snakes. Then one of the walls was painted with blackboard paint and on it were kid’s drawings of skulls and skeletons.
“I want to do one.” Andy said picking up a piece of chalk.
I picked up one also and started drawing. Andy was peeking at mine and I covered it up. “No, don’t cheat!”
“It’s not like we’re taking a test.” He answered.
“No, but we are having a contest.”
“A contest?” Andy said amused.
“Yeah to see who draws the better one.” I answered trying to sneak a peek at his.
He covered it up, “No you can’t see it. Who’s going to judge then?”
“Me of course.” I answered.
“That’s not fair.” Andy looked behind him. “You person!” He yelled at a random guy passing by. I’m pretty sure they were one of the people who worked for the museum. “We need a judge and I choose you.”
The person looked at him like he was crazy. A grown, tall man drawing on a board meant for kids, randomly yelling at random passing people. Because that totally wasn’t crazy.
“I’m sorry, my boyfriend and I are having a contest to see who can draw the best. And he doesn’t think it’s fair if I’m the judge. Could you please be the judge?” I explained.
The guy shrugged, “Sure.”
I looked at Andy, “We have 60 seconds. 1...2...3…go!” I yelled out and started drawing.
60 seconds went by. “Done!” I yelled admiring at my handy work.
“Finally.” Andy said with a smirk. I looked over at Andy’s drawing…it wasn’t even a skull…it was batman’s head.
“What? That’s not even a skull!” I said.
“You never said that it had to be, you just said who could draw the best.” Andy answered. “Yours is just a stick figure so I obviously win.” Andy answered.
“It has a skull!” I answered. “I just couldn’t draw his body!”
“The guy wins, can I leave?” The guy answered unenthusiastically.
“Ha ha! Yes!” Andy cheered and the guy walked off. “So what’s my prize?” He asked with a grin.
“You cheated.” I answered crossing my arms across my chest.
“No I didn’t you just didn’t lay out the rules right. So I obviously deserve a prize.” He replied.
I thought about it for a second, “I’ll get you one of those cool dinosaur coffee cups in the gift shop where the dinosaurs turn to bones when you put something hot in it.” I said.
“That’s cool but I think I deserve more than that.” He said with a smirk.
“Let’s go with the cup for now and I’ll think about the ‘more’ later.” I responded and started walking away.
