Wretchedly Divine (Gasping for Air)

Chapter 10: That Was Easier Than I Expected

This was so much easier than I expected it to be. I had expected to run into people, but I had gotten out of that so easily, I was feeling pretty full of myself as I headed out of sight of other people who might catch me, and towards my escape hole.
I couldn’t help but wonder who those big guys were, and why they were looking for me, unless another Ashley from the main was planning an escape today. I hadn’t told anyone I was planning on escaping, except earlier when I was talking to… No, it wasn’t possible.
The Prophet
I hoped in the back of my mind, but I mentally shook the thought away, knowing that it wasn’t possible for him to have had anything to do with it. No matter what strange voices in my dreams/head said, The Prophet was dead, no matter how much I wished it wasn’t, it was true. He’d died right in front of me. If anyone knew he was dead, I did.
So who was that voice in my head? And if they weren’t The Prophet, whoever they were, how did they know about him, and how did they get inside my head?
Ugh, I didn’t want to think about it, so I kept running.
Soon enough, after a couple minutes, I came to a large hole (large meaning just big enough for me to wiggle through on my belly), that would be my exit.
I threw my big bag onto the ground, and then checked my surroundings to make sure there was no one around, and then I crouched down and peeked through the hole. There was no one as far as I could see, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t anyone there, it just meant I couldn’t see them.
I got down on my stomach and poked my head through the hole, checking for people again, and then crawled through, and grabbed the bag of expensive junk, knowing that if I ditched it I’d have to do so somewhere where it wouldn’t be discovered by guards and Shadows that would be looking for me tomorrow.
I stood and didn’t bother brushing myself off, rather I headed for the first thing that I could see, large useless piece of metal or something that was formless, possibly dangerous, and big enough to cover me. I ducked, and listened intently while focusing as much as possible on my surroundings. Thankfully there was enough light for me to see because of the moon, but unfortunately I didn’t have a flashlight, so on nights when there was no moon… I’d get to that bridge later. I was just worried about getting far enough away from F.E.A.R. to be invisible to any guards that happen to be walking by.
I heard a set of footsteps and I froze, not even daring to breath. There were large pieces of discarded debris littering this part of the outside wall, and it was making it hard to tell where the steps were coming from.
“Come out, come out, where-ever you are.” A sing-song voice lured. “You don’t have to be afraid, we’re rebels, we come out here especially to help people escape and have a better life.”
Bull shit. I internally spat, knowing that it was a guard trying to trick me out of my hiding spot.
“I saw you crawl out, but I didn’t see where you went, now come on, do a guy a favor and come out, hmm? If I bring a ned recruit home tonight I win a bet, and I’ll give you half my winnings. Please come out.”
I didn’t move. His footsteps were coming from about then feet to my left, but didn’t appear to be getting any closer. I took my heavy bag off my shoulder, and, staying crouched, moved slowly and noiselessly to another piece of debris, about four feet to my left. I stayed close to it and listened for more steps.
It took a few moments, but I could make out footsteps that were faint, and seemed to be farther off than I hard presumed earlier. Either they were another set of steps, or the guy was farther away that I’d thought.
“Hey, Ian, you find anything?” A second masculine voice asked the first one.
“Yeah, there’s someone here, but they won’t come out.”
“Well you better hope you find him, you’ve got a lot riding on this.”
Well I seem to have spoken too freaking soon. I thought irritatedly, realizing this was going to be much more difficult than originally anticipated, and possibly impossible.
Well shit.

Notes

So it's extremely short, and I apologize, but I don't want to go much farther without getting back to Ashley's POV, not Ashley ^ Ashley as in, The Deviant. That will be lots of fun. ^-^
The two people who commented really got me pumped up for this story

I am very impressed with this story. This has to be THE best story on this website as far as proper grammar, a very well thought out plot, and very detailed descriptions go, as well as the fact that I can actually just imagine what your characters are feeling, thinking, etc while I read. I adore this story, and hope you update again really soon! Keep up the fantastic work! :)

Feel free to skip chica! Your an amazing author and don't let anyone tell you otherwise

@BrokenBVBLover
Right!? I'm antsy myself, but I've got a while to go before I get there :( I think I'll just skip all the boring parts and go straight to the "We know where she is let's go get her!!" Well, not in the next chapter, but maybe the one after that. Anyway, I feel your angst. I can't seem to make the time between now and when they find her short enough :/
