Recollection

5

What felt like an eternity to me, ended up being nearly five days in the hospital. The pain in my midsection lessened a bit with the help of painkillers. And I was sitting up a bit, my right wrist encased in white plaster and an ACE bandage upon my left ankle.

“You ready to go home?” I cringed at Matty’s choice of words.

I hadn’t seen the destruction Declan left behind, but from the relayed messages from Matty and Niki, there wasn’t much left of the home I once lived in.

I had two choices to ponder. I could stay with them or make the nearly forty minute trip out of town to stay with Andy.

I knew I needed to get out of the hospital. I hadn’t been able to properly shower in days - just mere sponge baths and my hair felt like it stood up on end! My wrist itched like crazy underneath the plaster.

I gritted my teeth and spoke. “Yeah guess so. I’ll stay at Andy's until I can get on my feet. I’ve got some money saved up so it won't be very long.”

“Don’t worry about it, you can stay as long as you like!” I half-smiled at his suggestion.

"Jules is out of town again and it'll give me some company!" he joked.

Andy was a complete sweetheart! One couldn’t ask for such a great friend, but I knew inside I couldn’t stay at his place long.

Ashley was well known to show up unannounced when he wanted to and I wasn't sure I could handle dredging up old emotions right now.

It had since been a little over two years but I could still remember the look in his captivating brown eyes when I left him on the beach in the California rain, walking away never looking back.

I admit we’d both been in other relationships since then. As chaotic as it was, it still turned out to be the only relationship that had such a profound effect upon me!

We met up again one night, nearly fifteen months prior, after the band had performed at the Whisky. With all sorts of alcohol spreading like wildfire through our veins, we spoke not a word!

Allowing our bodies to say all that needed to be said. And it was everything I ever remembered it being.

I shivered as I recollected the memories.

“Are you cold?” Andy’s bedside manner wiped away sweet memories.

“Just a little.” I lied. He reached forward and pulled the thin blanket up higher on my waist.

If they only knew..
