Recollection

17

It was nearing sunset before Ash wrangled our little boy and I back into the car to begin the trip back.

"Why has Andy had your car?" I asked innocently.

"His is in the auto shop, transmission issues. Thought I'd be generous and let him use mine!" he said plainly.

"Oh!"

"It's not like I don't have anything, Aut. I still have my motorcycle to get around." he smirked.

A blush spread across my face, I recalled one late night ride where we got quite hot and heavy and ended up under some beach pier making love while the water rushed around us.

He brought me back to reality when Andy's voice filled the car.

"Yeah?"

"You gonna be good for the night?"

"Certainly, Jules is back. I got her car but mine should be done by tomorrow afternoon."

"Good! See ya in two then."

The guys said their farewells and the call was ended.

"Two? What's that supposed to mean?" I questioned.

"Days. That's when we're leaving for overseas."

"I know that but I'm staying with Andy, I've got nothing with me for Punk."

"Everything will be alright, stuff's in the trunk." he countered.

"Then where are we going and don't you dare shrug me off damnit!" I stated.

"We're going to my place for a couple days."

"What?!"

"Aut, please? Don't be dramatic. It's only really tonight through tomorrow afternoon."

"Fine!"

The rest of the drive from Santa Monica to his place was quiet between us. Thirty-five minutes later, we arrived in Hermosa Beach. After a few twists and turns, we arrived at Ashley's safe and sound.

After pulling in front of a fairly decent sized garage, he told me to stay put until he had Punk out of his seat but I didn't listen. I stood wobbly, holding onto the car door for dear life, while Ash got our son and belongings from the trunk.

I looked around with sheer pleasure. Ashley's modest two-story townhouse sat away from the road, flanked on either side by larger homes with wooden fences up for privacy.

A chain link fence in the near distance separated the road from the sand that led to the Pacific Ocean. From here you could see the sun even with the horizon and smell the salt rising from the waves lapping at the shoreline.

It was absolutely breathtaking for a small town girl from the East Coast.

"Hey! You ready?" Ash asked.

"Yeah, I suppose so."

With his arm supporting me, we wobbled inside.
