Love And Other Drugs

It's Nice To Meet You

The bed was comfortable-so much more comfortable than her bunk and ten times more comfortable than the hospital bed she had spent two nights in. Luxe was holed up in a hotel room halfway between Georgia and Florida-bed rest for three days before they could move on.

The girls were all out and about, having fun running around seeing movies and playing mini golf and Luxe was stuck in bed. She had a major lung infection in her right lung and she had been dehydrated-the Valium hadn’t helped either. Luxe had had a long conversation with the doctor and he had then prescribed her with two different antibiotics and her very own bottle of Valium for her anxiety.

Now here she was, laying in bed with her head propped up, bored out of her skull and wanting to get back on the road. Flowers lined the tables of her room-Alex had sent over three huge bouquets in an apology, but the manager had yet to enter her room himself. The girls kept telling Luxe how bad Alex felt, but the singer knew he felt bad about cancelling two shows and not really that bad about her being so sick.

Luxe only smiled as she turned the channel on the television-Batman Begins was a good movie but it reminded her of someone she didn’t want to think about.

Andy had also sent over a bouquet of flowers-he had really sent them this time-and they were a gorgeous blend of sunflowers and daisies, which she loved. He had tried to come in and talk to her a few times at first, but the girls wouldn’t let him in upon Luxe’s request. She couldn’t face him right now-couldn’t see the look in his eyes as he sat in front of her, both of them knowing how he felt. He had called it something like love, but he seemed unsure and that was what was making Luxe uncomfortable.

Did he really have those feelings for her?

Or was it some elaborate plan on his part to make her suffer?

Luxe’s dream kept popping in to her head, opening old wounds that she had thought had been closed long ago and she just couldn’t let it go. She had been so hurt by that dance and it had practically caused her to take her own life-walking down the halls to shouts of ‘whore’, ‘slut’ and ‘football fucker’ was not easy and she cried every day for the rest of the year.

Thankfully graduation came and that very day Luxe packed her bags-all two of them-and hopped on the first bus out of town. Lost in her thoughts, Luxe didn’t even notice that the door to her room was opening slowly-the girls had a key-and soon enough Mads’ black and red head was coming through the other side.

“Hey there sicky.” The drummer joked as she entered the room carrying a bag of McDonalds and a large Sweet Tea. Luxe felt her stomach grumble and she licked her lips as she thought about the delicious salty French fries.

“Oh thank you for my early Christmas gift Santa!” Luxe called out as she watched her bandmate place the bag and drink on the bed side table and then take a seat on the edge of her bed.

“No problem. I figured you would be getting hungry.” Mads said as she pulled out the fries from the bag and handed them over to Luxe. The girl was looking much better, there was more color to her skin and her stitches were beginning to disintegrate, but there was a sadness in her eyes and Mads knew why.

“What have you and the girls been up to?” Luxe asked in between bites of her fries and Mads only smiled. They were on an extended break and they had actually been enjoying the time off-the Dolls and BVB were going out that night to a local club to party it up before hitting the road in the morning.

“Just hanging out-the guys are taking us out tonight…some club that Ashley likes to go to whenever they come to town.” Mads rolled her eyes and the girls both laughed quietly, but the silence between them was heavy. She wanted to ask about Andy, but Mads still wasn’t keen on the male singer. But Luxe could feel her curiosity nagging at her.

“Is-um…is Andy going too?” She asked, keeping her eyes down in her lap where her burger sat waiting for her. Mads only chuckled and Luxe looked up, smirking at how dumb she sounded. Of course Andy was going-he was probably having the time of his life right now.

“Are you kidding? That guy has set up a vigil outside of your door…only leaves to go to the bathroom or to sleep.” Mads said and Luxe laughed, loudly. The drummer had to be joking, but by one look at her pale face, Luxe could tell that she was being serious right now.

“Look Luxe, I don’t know what happened between the two of you, but that guy has major feelings for you.” Mads said, her brown eyes curious and Luxe gulped. She didn’t want to think about it right now.

“He told me he loved me…” She said and then the tears began to prick her eyes.

What was she supposed to say? To the girls and the guys in BVB it sounded normal for Andy to tell Luxe he loved her-they were a couple after all, but deep down Luxe knew that it was all just a lie. Without even thinking Luxe began to spill everything out to Mads-feeling strange because she and the drummer weren’t as close as the other girls, but the drummer just sat there and listened.

Luxe started at the beginning, told her about the prank in high school, about Luxe thinking about taking her own life, her miserable life in Cornerstown and how relieved she had felt when Alex had showed up. Then Luxe told her about the fake relationship between she and Andy-the separate bunks, the nights spent crying and the arguments between the two. Shockingly enough Mads sat there calmly, her brown eyes filled with pity as she looked at her bandmate.

The drummer had guessed that not all was well or normal between the two singers, but she never would have thought that they had been forced together in such a way. It had shocked everyone when the two announced that they were a couple and they played their parts well-Andy doted on Luxe when they were together, touched her tenderly and Luxe smiled and giggled whenever they were near one another.

To find out that it was a complete farce and a total act made Mads feel sorry for the two-she couldn’t even be mad at them. This was all Alex McFadden’s doing and Mads felt her anger rise at the thought.

“Look, we both know I’m not Andy’s biggest fan, but don’t you think you’re being a little rough on the guy?” Mads finally asked as Luxe finished her word vomit and just laid there, looking at her bandmate with wide eyes.

“I-how am I supposed to know if his feelings for me are true? How do I know he isn’t getting paid extra by Alex to pretend-even to me-that he loves me?” Luxe asked as she finished her burger and crumpled up the paper. Mads only looked at her, sighing as she stood up and stretched her arms above her head.

“You know Luxe-have you even tried to get to know Andy?”

“What?” Luxe asked, anger lacing her tone and Mads only sighed and retook her seat on the side of the bed.

“What’s his favorite color?” She asked and Luxe bit down on her lip ring-she had no clue.

“What’s his favorite food?” Again-no idea.

“What are his parents like? How was he when he was a kid? Do you know anything about one another?” Luxe just sat there, staring straight ahead of her and Mads only smiled softly and placed her hand on top of Luxe’s before standing up.

“I’m not saying you should up and marry the guy Luxe, but maybe you should take the time to get to know him-figure out who he is as a person before completely shutting him out.” Mads said as she kissed Luxe’s forehead and walked towards the hotel room door. Luxe only sighed as she let her head hit the pillow behind her and looked up at the ceiling.

Mads was right-Luxe and Andy knew very little about one another and that needed to change. Whether they stayed together as a legit couple, or just became friends and kept the charade going-Luxe and Andy needed to get to know one another. Luxe sighed-she needed to get Andy and she hoped that he was still sitting outside her door. Slowly she stood up, wincing as she placed one foot on the floor and then another.

The plush carpet felt nice against the bottom of her feet and the room wasn’t swimming in front of her eyes so that was obviously a good sign.

Luxe made her way towards the door, her hand reaching for the handle slowly as she gripped it and turned. The wood came towards her and she inhaled deeply as she pulled it open and looked down. Andy was sitting there, his back up against the wall to the right of her door, his black hair down in his face and he had one knee bent while his other leg was straight out in front of him. He had a bottle of water, half empty, sitting next to him and a bag of Animal Crackers was sitting beside that. A book was in his hands and Luxe smiled at she noticed the cover.

“Did you get to the court room scene yet?” She asked him and Andy nearly jumped out of his skin as he looked up and saw Luxe standing there. Her socked toes were wiggling back and forth as she looked down at him with a smirk on her lips.

“Uh-no…no I haven’t. Um-should you be standing right now?” He asked as he folded down the top of the page of his book-To Kill A Mockingbird-and then stood up and looked at the girl standing before him. Andy hadn’t seen Luxe since that day in her hospital room and she looked ten times better now than she had then.

“I’m good. So-uh, I was talking to Mads…” Luxe said and then stopped when she noticed Andy had made a face. His eyebrow was cocked up and that irritating smirk was on his lips. He noticed that she had stopped and he pressed a smile to his lips.

“Sorry. You were saying?” He said as he stood before her and Luxe only rolled her eyes and then tipped her head towards her room. Was she inviting him inside? Andy followed behind Luxe, taking that as a yes and soon enough he was standing in the middle of her very nice hotel room.

“She helped me deal with some shit and made me see that we actually kind of don’t know one another very well.” Luxe said as she sat on the bottom of her bed and looked up at him. Andy was standing there, one arm crossed over his chest and she took in his attire. A crumpled black shirt with a hole in the side, a ripped and torn pair of jeans that had seen better days and his ever present pair of boots.

“Um-alright. So what do you want to do?” Andy asked as he stood there and looked down at the girl before him. Her blonde hair was matted-she probably hadn’t showered in a few days and she was wearing an incredibly long BVB shirt-where had she gotten that from? Luxe must’ve noticed him looking at her shirt and she smiled as she tucked some hair behind her ear.

“Char got it for me-my bags are still on the bus which is half way across town. First I want to take a shower, then I was wondering if you wanted to hang out with me tonight. We can sit out on my balcony…talk to one another…get to know each other…” She said as she stood up, the shirt falling to reach only halfway down her thighs and Andy gulped. This was coming out of nowhere, but he wasn’t going to say no.

“S-sure. Did you need help getting in the shower?” Andy asked and Luxe only smiled at him, shaking her head so that her long blonde hair fell in her face like a sheet. She walked past him, stopping at the bathroom door before she turned around and looked at him from over her shoulder.

“I think I can handle it. But feel free to channel surf while I’m in here.” She smiled at him, a bright smile that he didn’t see very often, before shutting the door gently.

Andy sighed as he took a seat on the bed, looking behind him he noticed the crumpled sheets and he smiled. This was really strange-Luxe had never seemed interested in being true friends before, but it was happening now and Andy wasn’t going to say no to something that he wanted more than anything.

Her.

Notes

It all starts to unfold-Luxe has trust issues, but can you blame her?

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
