Love And Other Drugs

True Feelings

Andy watched as Luxe wobbled out on to the stage and he smirked-had she been drinking? He knew the girls were party animals, but usually they stayed pretty sober until after the show was done. Luxe had been looking pretty worn when he saw her at the M&G, but she had kept a smile on her face the entire time and so Andy figured she had taken something for her throat and was feeling better. Now the girl was standing at the front of the stage and the crowd was going wild-they really did love her.

"How the fuck are you Atlanta!" He heard her call out and Andy smiled as the crowd responded in a very loud and excited manner.

Through his matted hair that was still sticking to his face, Andy noticed that while the girls were all playing the song, Luxe wasn't singing along to it. Why wasn't she singing? Andy then felt his heart stop as he heard a gasp from the system and then watched as Luxe fell forward, smacking her head against the edge of the stage before rolling over on to her back. What the fuck? People were screaming-Pixie had stopped playing and was now rushing towards her fallen friend. Alex was talking quickly in to a phone and Andy suddenly felt his feet begin to run.

Luxe was on the ground, grabbing at something behind her back-her corset strings maybe? Andy looked down at her and he noticed that she had her mouth open and was gasping for air, her chest heaving up and down roughly as she tried to breathe. Her hands were now at her throat and that confirmed it for him as Andy bent down and touched her gently on the cheek. He tried to smile at her, tried to make her feel like it was going to be okay, but once those grey eyes rolled back into her head, Andy knew there wasn't time to wait for an ambulance.

"Someone get me a box cutter!" He called out, looking over his shoulder at the road crew. Finally their guitar tech, Mark, ran over to him and handed Andy a green box cutter.

"Is she going to be okay?"

"What's going on?"

"I fucking knew this was going to happen!"

"Luxe?Luxe!"

All of the girls were crying out behind him, but Andy ignored them as he quickly unsheathed the blade of the cutter and quickly ripped the sharp metal against the front of Luxe's corset. Her grey eyes were slowly beginning to shut and Andy felt his heart stop as finally they shut, just as his final rip against her corset set the singer's lungs free. Chaos reigned as Luxe was carried off the stage in Andy's arms as he had gently picked her up and held her tightly to his chest. Andy could hear Alex speaking in to the mic, telling the crowd that Luxe had had an accident and was being taken to the hospital. This was all his fault.

"Oh shit!" Someone said behind him and Andy only turned to see the music manager standing there, his black hair mussed from running his hands through it and Andy saw red.

"You-this is all your fucking fault!" He shouted as he continued to hold Luxe to his chest. He refused to let anyone touch her-he didn't want her to get hurt further.

"I-I didn't think it was that bad..." Alex said with defeat in his voice and Andy rolled his eyes. A pair of EMTs had entered the building with a stretcher and before Andy said another word he helped the two men get Luxe settled. She was still unconscious, but her chest was slowly moving up and down once again.

"Of course you didn't fucking think about it! All you ever fucking think about is how much money these girls are going to make you!" Andy said as he moved towards the manager, but was stopped by Ashley and Jake holding on to his shoulders. He wanted to punch the fucker in his smug face, but then that would open up an entirely new set of problems.

"These girls aren't a product man-they're fucking human beings and one of them almost died and still fucking could! Hold up! I'm coming with you..." Andy finished as he addressed the EMTs and began to follow them out of the venue.

Silence met his back as Andy walked out with Luxe, his hand gripping her free one as the other one was being used for her IV. She was still out, her eyelids purplish and bruised and her forehead had a nasty gash across it from where she had hit the edge of the stage. Andy felt his heart leap in his chest as they got outside and there were all of their fans, screaming and crying once they saw the singer for their favorite band being wheeled out on a stretcher.

Andy waved at them, trying to get them a signal that it would all be okay, but he wasn't even sure of that himself. What if Luxe never woke up? What if the blow to her head had caused some kind of damage that would leave her unable to do anything? Andy wasn't a doctor and as he got in to the back of the ambulance behind Luxe, he couldn't keep the smile on his face as the EMTs shut the door and he looked down at the girl before him.

She looked like she was sleeping, her eyes closed to the world and her lips were held in a straight line. The EMTs worked on her, were trying to get the bleeding on her head to stop and Andy finally noticed that her chest was exposed and he quickly adverted his eyes. He hadn't even been thinking about that when he had gotten that box cutter and set her free, but now he couldn't help but blush.

"Is she going to be okay?" He asked one of the EMTs and Andy held his breath as the young guy looked at him and then down at Luxe.

"She's breathing, so that's good. Her vital signs are good, but listening to her chest it sounds like she has a pretty nasty infection in there. Whoever cut her out of this corset probably saved her life." The man said before turning to look out the front window and saying something to his partner.

"Holy shit..." Andy said as the realization hit him square in the chest. He had saved Luxe's life-he had thought quickly enough and moved fast enough to cut her out of that stupid outfit and now she may live.

"Luxe...I-I know you can't hear me or anything, but I just want you to know that I really do care about you. Even though we fight a lot and say nasty things to one another, I-I couldn’t bear the thought of never hearing you laugh again..."

"Please...please be okay and hold on. You have so many fans waiting out there for you Luce...they love you..."

Andy stopped talking as they finally pulled into the ER entrance and he was told that he would have to get out of the ambulance first. He did as he was told, crossing his arms over his chest and then Andy realized that he didn't have a shirt on. They were in the South-Georgia-and so it wasn't that cold, but he still shivered as he watched the EMTs get Luxe out of the back of the large vehicle. He had spoken to her softly, but his words held a heavy meaning behind them and as Andy watched Luxe being wheeled inside quickly, he couldn't help but come to the realization of what he had said to her.

Andy loved Luxe, in a way that was confusing to him because he hadn't felt this way about someone in a long time. What did it mean? What should he do? Andy walked quickly behind the stretcher, ignoring all of the stares they were getting as an unconscious girl with her shirt ripped open and a guy with no shirt and black paint all over his body passed. All Andy could focus on was making sure that Luxe was taken care of-that she lived to see another day. The stretcher was pushed through a set of swinging doors, people surrounding it and as Andy moved to follow it, he was stopped by a short woman with grey hair and no smile on her lips.

"Are you family?" She asked, her hand held up to his chest while her other hand held a clipboard. The woman was probably only five feet tall, but she was imposing enough to make Andy stop and look down at her.

"No." He said stupidly and the woman looked down at her clipboard and then back up at him. She held no smile on her lips.

"Are you her husband?" She asked him and Andy bit down on his lip ring. He could lie, but then it would get out and that was an entirely new rumor that he didn't need to be spread around.

"I'm her friend." He stated and the woman only looked at him and then pointed towards the small waiting room that sat off to their right.

"Family members only." She said and Andy held the growl in his throat that was threatening to escape. Luxe had no family-he, the girls and his band were her family now.

"But she needs me..." He said, his voice childlike and sad. The nurse, obviously taking pity on him, placed a hand on his shoulder and moved him off towards the waiting room.

"Look, stay here and I'll see what I can do. Once the doctor looks her over then maybe we can get you in there. Do you want a blanket?" She asked him as Andy took a seat-the chair that was closest to the door so that he could hear and see everything.

"What?" He asked as he looked away from the doorway and up to the nurse standing over him.

"A blanket. Do you want a blanket?" She repeated and Andy said nothing as he only numbly nodded his head and then watched as the nurse walked off.

Soon enough the nurse was back, handing him a thin blanket that Andy quickly wrapped around his shoulders. He could hear the voices of people coming in and out of the ER and his heart sank as he looked at the clock. It was going to be hard sitting here and waiting-Andy wasn't a patient person by any means-and he only hoped that the others would show up soon to keep him company.

Hopefully the doctor would see Luxe quickly so that Andy could get in there and be with her. He didn't understand why the sudden change of heart happened, but Andy knew that seeing Luxe so completely vulnerable and injured had made him realize that sometimes you can't help how you feel about someone.

Even your enemies.

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
