Love And Other Drugs

The Interview

Luxe taped her red tipped nails on the wooden table before her and sighed as she looked around. She was alone, well Alex was with her but he was sitting in a corner with his nose in his phone, and Luxe wished she didn't have to do this stupid interview. It was with Rock Sound and while usually all of the girls did their video interviews together-they had just done Bryan Stars not too long ago-Alex wanted Luxe alone on this one. The other girls all laughed, happy for the few hours off before their show tonight and Luxe wished she had the same chance.

She was tired-they all were and instead of giving them a day off, Alex had bought them Monster Energy drinks by the case and made a few calls. Now they were sponsored by Monster just like BVB and Luxe hated it. Alex had also given her something else to keep her awake, a little bottle of blue pills that she had yet to touch. Coffee and power naps would be it for her for now-Luxe didn't want to get into anything too heavy. They had been on the road for two weeks and they still had a long time to go, but everyone was really having a good time, as long as the bands stayed apart.

Luxe and Andy hated one another, as did Mads and Ashley and so the two bands rarely saw one another except for in venues. Alex kept trying to get the two bands in an interview together, but thankfully BVB's manager was ignoring his calls. Luxe smirked as she readjusted her corset top-she was stage ready even though they still had a few hours before the show and that was because Alex wanted her to look the part. She was always looking a part, playing a part and being someone else. All of the fans commented to her when they met her that she was nicer in person than she seemed on stage or in interviews and that kind of made Luxe sad.
She had lost herself and she didn't know how to get the old Lucinda back.

"Hello." Someone said from the doorway and Luxe almost jumped out of her chair as she stopped spacing out and looked up. There was a tiny girl standing in the doorway, her long curly brown hair getting in her face as she tried to carry a huge camera into the small space. They were using a side room in the venue that Alex had managed to put a table and some chairs in to.

"Hi. Do you need help?" Luxe asked as she pushed her chair out and stood. Alex had put his phone away and was now smirking as he watched Luxe help the small girl get her camera set up.

"Thanks. I'm Amanda." The girl was holding out her hand and as Luxe took it she noticed that the girl was wearing a shirt with Luxe's face on it. That was new and it was not part of their merch table, so where had it come from?

"I'm Luxe. I like your shirt-where'd you get it?" Amanda looked down and smirked as she looked back up at Luxe.

"Hot Topic. I thought it would be appropriate for today." Amanda laughed as she moved towards the table and tried to get some of her papers organized. Luxe smiled, but inside she was feeling slightly nervous. Why were there shirts with only her face on them? What about the other girls?

"It's awesome." Amanda only smiled at her as she picked up a mic in one hand and held her papers in the other. Luxe had watched some Rock Sound interviews before and so she kind of knew how they worked and what kind of questions would be asked. This interview wouldn't be as fun as the Bryan Stars one, but it would still be a good time.

"Okay, so I'm going to turn the camera on and all I want you to do is introduce the interview. Here..." Amanda smiled at her as she handed Luxe a single piece of paper that had her introduction on it. The words were the same as they were in every interview from Rock Sound, except for the name changes. Luxe scanned over it a couple of times and then nodded her head that she was ready.

She tried to breathe in and out as Amanda moved away from her to turn the camera on, but Luxe was still nervous. She had never done an interview alone-usually it was all five of them or herself and Char and Char was always the comic relief in the interviews. What if she fucked this up? Luxe breathed but found that her lungs were on fire and she wished that Alex hadn't made her wear this stupid corset. It was hard to talk normally in one, let alone sing and Luxe was starting to feel woozy every time she went on stage. A small red light was blinking on the camera and Luxe only smiled into it as she waited for Amanda to come back to her side. The smaller girl did so and nodded her head for Luxe to go ahead with her introduction.

"Hey Dolls! Luxe from The Hollywood Dolls here and you are watching Rock Sound!" Luxe tried to breathe, but was finding it hard. She smiled through the subtle pain running down her spine. Maybe tonight they could forgo the corsets.

"Hey guys Amanda here and I am with the very lovely lead singer of The Hollywood Dolls. How are you doing today Luxe?" Amanda asked her and Luxe smiled as she moved to speak into the mic.

"I'm doing really well. We're here in Wisconsin and while it's pretty cold outside, it's nice to be able to get somewhere that a lot of bands don't usually go." Luxe said and noticed that Alex had given her a thumbs up on that one. He was a worm, but for some reason Luxe wanted to please him-her job kind of depended on it.

"Yeah you probably love it up here since you're from the South and you guys don't get snow down there, right?" The girl asked and Luxe only laughed.

"That's true! I'd only seen snow once before when I was really little and we got a freak snow storm in the town I grew up in. But yeah it's been amazing so far on this tour-I'm really thankful that I'm able to tour with such a wonderful group of girls." Luxe said and she honestly meant it. Things had been rocky the first few days on tour with the band-Pixie had some weird habits and Mads was a really messy person, but all of the girls had grown closer from having to be around one another for so long.

"Good and I'm sure touring alongside a band filled with hot guys can't hurt either." Luxe tried to smile, she really did, but it kind of came off as a smirk. Alex was looking at her, a warning in his eyes and Luxe quickly cleared her throat.

"Very true-those guys are really awesome." Liar! Luxe knew she had to play the part, but Amanda's next question kind threw her off her game.

"Now I had heard a rumor that you and Andy Biersack-singer for Black Veil Brides-actually hate one another." Luxe knew her face had fallen and she could see the panic in Alex's eyes. Not good, so not good.

"Oh, wow, that's really weird. No Andy and I are fine. I mean we have to sing together every night so we kind of have to get along to make that work." Alex's eyes got wide and Luxe wondered if she had said the wrong thing.

"Very true, but you have to admit that sometimes he can come off a little...pompous. I've seen some interviews with him and Ashley Purdy and they didn't have very nice things to say about you or the other girls." How the fuck was Luxe supposed to turn this interview around?

"There was a lot of misunderstanding going on between the bands at first, but now that we're on tour together things have gotten better. Andy and I actually like to hang out sometimes, just passing song ideas back and forth..." Alex was nodding his head-good save Luxe.

"So the rumors of you two dating are true..." Fuck! Luxe had really hoped that she had squashed the BVB interview questions but it seemed like Amanda had a few more up her sleeve.

"We're friends...just really good friends." Luxe said with a shy smile and Amanda giggled and looked down at her questions.

The interview continued on and Luxe felt better once they got off the topic of Andy and the rest of BVB. Amanda asked her about the album, the recording process and how touring for the first time was going. When the question about how the band got together came, Luxe stalled for a moment and looked towards Alex.

The manager shook his head and so Luxe went in to the story that all of the girls had agreed on-Lulu and Luxe knew one another from childhood and when the girls needed a singer, Lulu called on her old childhood friend to move out to LA. Alex and Interscope didn't want anyone, mostly the fans, to know that the girls had been brought together as more of a product and less of a passion to play music together.

Everything went on without a problem, until Amanda started bringing up Andy once again. Luxe felt uncomfortable answering questions about him because she didn't really know him. Amanda was clearly testing Luxe's claim of friendship as she kept asking the singer what they had in common and what they liked to do together. Luxe felt like she faked it fairly well, saying that sometimes the two singers would sit in the back of the Dolls bus and just read quietly together. There were other times where they would help one another with their makeup backstage or go and get coffee together in the mornings that the bus had already arrived at the venue. It was all lies-none of it true, but it sounded good and Amanda seemed to accept it.

"So I've got one last question for you and this is actually from the Rock Sound youtube page and was the most asked question when we polled our watchers about what they wanted to hear during your interview." Amanda said as she looked at Luxe and the two girls smiled at one another. Luxe liked fan questions because usually it was stuff that no one thought to ask her-like her favorite color or movie.

"Okay." Luxe said and tried to breathe once again. She was going to have to take this corset off for a little bit otherwise there would be no singing tonight.

"When are you and Andy going to shoot a video for Broken and what will the video look like?" Luxe bit down on her lip and looked towards Alex. The manager was dumbstruck, but there was gleam in his eyes and he just nodded to her-Luxe could answer however she liked for this one.

"Um I don' t think there are any current plans for a video for that song. We did just shoot a video for our song Make Me Wanna Die and I know BVB is working on a video for their song Rebel Love Song, but the bands don't have any plans on doing anything together right now." She thought it was a good answer and by the look on Alex's face Luxe was correct.

"Alright then guys-from the horse's mouth! My name's Amanda and you have been watching Rock Sound-have a good night." Luxe continued to smile into the camera as she watched Amanda walk towards it and shut it off.

"Thanks so much Amanda-you sticking around for the show?" Luxe asked as she hugged the small girl and then watched as she packed everything up.

"Wouldn't miss it-thanks for the interview!" The two girls waved at one another as Amanda disappeared around the corner and Luxe noticed that Alex was speaking quietly into his phone.

Looking down at her own phone, Luxe noticed that it was still two hours away from show time and even then BVB was going on first tonight. What had the girls been doing during her interview? Luxe wondered as she sat there and bit down on a thumb nail. They had been all sitting around the bus when she left and now they were probably in the venue, getting dressed. BVB was probably doing the same and Luxe sighed as she looked over at Alex and noticed that he had gotten off the phone and was coming towards her. He reached out and grabbed her arm so hard it was probably going to leave a bruise and Luxe noticed the anger in his eyes.

"We need to have a discussion between you, me, Andy and Jay..." Oh no...

Notes

Uh oh-looks like Luxe is in trouble. Things also seem to be getting pretty weird with the girls-Luxe is being singled out with her own merch and one has to wonder how the other girls are going to feel about that.

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you
