Love And Other Drugs

Defame Me

I'm not afraid to cry through thick and thin
If only you noticed
If only you could see
The struggle, the silence
I'm not afraid to bleed
Just let the past go, it's ancient history

Guitars wailed in her ears as the drums pounded in her heart and Luxe couldn't remember feeling this good. The girls were in a dingy studio somewhere in west LA, getting in more practice time for their coming tour. They had been at it for weeks and the time was almost there-they were only two weeks away from the start of tour. The album had come out not even a week ago and the girls were still riding the high that came from putting out a successful record.

The Reckoning had hit the charts and very quickly moved up until it hit the top 10 spot on Billboard's Top 100 Rock songs list. Luxe had cried when Alex gave them the good news-she had done it...they had put out their best record yet. Now the girls just had to tour well enough to support it, but they all knew that wasn't going to be a problem.

Black Veil Brides already had the best stage show planned for their set and while the girls were jealous, they had something else planned. It would be a simple show-just them and their instruments, but the girls planned something for their final song of the night-Here's To Us. A contest had been set up late in the summer and each fan that was chosen as the winner got to come up on stage for the final song and rock out with the girls on stage. It was in honor of those fans that had stuck by them the entire time, which there hadn't been many, but the girls were grateful for the ones they had.

Don't you go and make a scene
I am the one you need
I am the blood that boils when you feel me through your veins
Don't you go and make a scene
Nothing is what it seems
Are we gonna let this go to waste and let it all decay
Don't you go and make a scene
Whoa

Luxe's blonde hair whipped back and forth to Char's pounding guitar and the as she flipped her hair back up and looked towards the guitarist the girls shared a smile. This was one of their favorite songs on the record-an ode to all of the people who had lost faith in them and now they were proving them wrong. As the girls played through the song, which would be played first in their set, they all could feel the electricity floating through the air. There was something different about this group of girls-they were all completely sober and united and this time it felt like it was going to stick.

"Sounding good girls!" Someone called out to them and just as the guitars died down, Luxe turned around to see Alex walking in to the room. The music producer and manager had seemed to calm down once the album had dropped and done well, but Luxe knew it was only a matter of time.

"Thanks!" Pixie called as she pulled her guitar away from her body and turned one of the dials on the front. It was time for a break and so Luxe slowly walked over towards the small table in the corner and grabbed for a bottle of water.

"Whatcha got there Alex?" She asked as she leaned up against the wall behind her and Luxe noticed that Alex was pulling several shirts out of the bag in his hands.

"Ladies...I brought you a present." Alex said with that know it all smirk on his lips. Luxe felt herself become speechless as she looked down at the five shirts that were now laying out on the table before her.

Two black ones, a white one, a grey one and finally a cherry red one with her face on it. One of the black shirts was pretty interesting-it had their broken doll logo on the front with 'The Reckoning' written across the front in large letters. The other one had a lipstick crossed with guitar and the Black Mass Tour written across the top-Luxe knew that on the back were all of their American Tour dates. The white one had all of the girls on the front, their black leather jackets pitch black against the all white background. The grey one was similar to the second black one, except instead of a guitar crossing with the lipstick it was Luxe's old time microphone that she used for every tour.

These shirts were amazing and Luxe felt like crying. It wasn't too long ago that she had worried they wouldn't be able to pull any of this off-that they had fucked everything up and that it was never going to be the same. But looking down at the shirts and knowing that in just two weeks the girls were going to embark on a tour that was going to define their careers, Luxe knew that she was safe. This time it would be different-this time she was going to do things the right way and not fuck everything up.

"These are really amazing Alex." Char said as she took the grey one in to her hands and turned it over. None of it seemed real, but here it was...proof that they had survived their worst enemies.

Themselves.

"Thank you. Now I'm going to leave you girls to it-just remember that we leave in two weeks and we still have one more video to shoot in a few days. So get plenty of rest..." He said as he walked towards the door. The girls all nodded, but they knew there was a hidden meaning behind his last statement. Get plenty of rest and keep your noses clean.

"I can't believe we only have two more weeks..." Lulu said as she placed one of the black shirts back on the table and looked around. All of the girls were smiling-true and genuine smiles that hadn't seen the light of day in a few years.

"I know...it's going to be a crazy six months." Char said as she crossed her tattooed arms over her chest and looked towards Luxe. The singer was quiet, pensive and Char knew that a certain rock singer was on her friend's mind.

The two singers had been going back and forth in the emotion department for years now. Luxe would fall right back in love with Andy and he would push her away, but then he would fall for the female singer and she would refuse him. It was frustrating to watch and yet everyone else in their lives knew something that the two singers couldn't seem to admit...
They were completely meant for one another.

"Are you looking forward to the video shoot coming up Luxe?" Mads asked the singer and watched as the small blonde looked up and a sense of fear crossed her eyes.

"Uh..."

"That's a no." Char said with slight laughter in her voice and Luxe only swallowed. She had been looking forward to the video shoot because it was her favorite song on the entire record-probably her favorite song she had ever written-but she wasn't looking forward to shooting the video for it.

"Well how would you feel if you had to be romantic with someone who had broken your heart?" Luxe asked and the entire room grew silent.

Alex's brilliant idea for their video Break In, was to have Andy and Luxe be together, almost as if it were a part two to their video Broken. The old costumes were coming out, the old set was being reconstructed and it was being deemed as one of the largest productions in the company for the year. Luxe wasn't looking forward to it, even though she and Andy were on better terms, she was just afraid that being intimate with him in that way was going to bring up feelings and emotions she had tried very hard to get rid of.

Luxe drained her water bottle and looked down at her shoes-this was probably going to be the hardest thing she would ever have to do in her entire life. Falling in love with Andy had destroyed her and was she really ready to do that all over again?

Probably.

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you
