Love And Other Drugs

Just Friends

The silence was like a loud scream between the two of them and yet Luxe and Andy still remained seated across from one another, staring down at their food. They had agreed, after Ashley and Char pestered both of them, to meet and it had proven to be a disaster. Andy had wanted to talk to Luxe about some things for over a month now, but he was too scared to make the first move. Luxe was still too angry at Andy to call him and the only reason she was here was because Char wouldn't stop blowing up her phone.

The ironic thing was that they were seated in the same restaurant that they'd had their very first date in. Luxe was barely touching her food, but she was concentrating on not recreating the ending of their first date and dumping the entire plate on top of Andy's perfectly gelled head. This made her smirk, something that didn't escape Andy's notice and he took it as a good sign. Clearing his throat, Andy leaned forward and placed a hand on top of one of her's.

"So, Luce..." Hearing her old nickname come out of his mouth made two reactions rise within Luxe's stomach. Comfort and disgust.

"Do you like that hand Andy?" Luxe asked and Andy only stared at her silently. What was she talking about?

"Uh, yes?" He said and then his heart seemed to stop as his eyes connected with her's. They were cold and void of any emotion.

"Then if you'd like to keep it, I suggest you remove it from the top of mine." She said and Andy quickly retracted his hand and stared at the girl across from him.

Luxe looked tired, but that was understandable as she and the Dolls hadn't stopped working to try and get everything out and ready for their coming album. Andy, himself, was feeling tired-the guys had just finished filming their video for Heart of Fire and now they were working on some concepts for another video. Andy's blue eyes filled with tears as he thought about how alone he felt and he knew that it was his own fault that all of this was happening.

If he had just dealt with his terror of commitment a long time ago, none of this would be happening. Instead of Luxe looking at him with hate in her eyes, she would be looking at him with love and devotion. Instead of her cursing his name every chance she got, Andy knew that Luxe would be telling him how much she loved him. Instead of the two of sitting across from one another silently and uncomfortably, they both could be laughing and enjoying one another.
But he had fucked it up and now he needed to fix it.

"Luce..." Andy said softly and now she was looking at him. Her eyes weren't as harsh looking, but Andy could still feel the disdain washing over him as she glanced his way.

"Yes?" She said as she played with her food, but didn't take her eyes off of him for one second.

"I wanted to talk to you..." Andy said and suddenly Luxe had dropped her fork to the plate and was sitting up straighter. Was this a good sign? Was she ready to forgive him?

"Okay. So talk." She said, folding her hands together as her chin came to rest on them and she sighed. This was going to be a long night.

"I'm an idiot..." He started, but was unable to finish as Luxe started chuckling.

"I'm well aware...go on." She interrupted and Andy tried to keep his temper. She always did that when they fought-she always had to get a dig in somewhere.

"Okay...I was going to say I'm sorry." Andy said through gritted teeth. That smug smirk on her red lips was really pushing his temper and Andy didn't know if he could hold it in much longer.

"And what are you sorry for?" She asked, leaning towards him as Luxe gripped her straw between her teeth and sipped at her tea. Andy continued to just sit there. Should he take the bait or just leave her waiting?

"For being self absorbed I guess. Look Luce...I never meant for any of this to happen." Andy said quickly and it left Luxe silent. She was trying to process everything that had just been said to her.

Andy was sorry. He had finally admitted that he had done something wrong and yet the outcome didn't feel the way Luxe thought it would have. She was expecting to feel a wave of emotion wash over her-like a huge weight being lifted from her shoulders. She thought she would jump up and throw her arms around Andy's shoulders and take comfort in knowing that he knew he was wrong.

But it didn't happen that way.

Luxe stayed where she was, her arms crossing over her chest as she tried to think about what she wanted to say. He had hurt her more than she ever thought he was capable of and it had taken so long for Andy to even realize what he had done. Luxe knew that he had been clueless as to why she had broken off contact-she even knew that he sought out advice from Ashley and that it had finally clicked. But Andy's silence on the matter this entire time had only fueled her angry fire and now Luxe wasn't sure how to put it out.

"Andy...I..." She stopped as Andy held up a hand and smiled softly at her.

"No. I fucked this up. I wish I had figured it out sooner, but you know I suck at these things. I told you a long time ago Luce that I'm not good at relationships sometimes." He said and Luxe smiled as she remembered that time.

They hated one another, loved one another and now she thought they had come full circle, but she had been wrong.

"Andy...I forgive you." Luxe said and suddenly that weight she had been impatiently waiting for seemed to disappear. Ah so that how this worked...

"Y-you do?" He asked, his eyes filled with a mixture of relief and disbelief.

"I do. I don't know if things will ever be the same between us, but I do forgive you. I don't think I've really been very fair to you this whole time." Luxe admitted and Andy only smirked. She had been terrible to him, but deep down he knew that he had deserved it. Andy tended to get lost in his own world and that world didn't always include other people.

"I've really missed you Luce." Andy said and then took a chance at losing his hand as he placed it on top of her's once again. Luxe stiffened, but then seemed to relax as she got used to the idea.

"I know. I've missed you too Andy." Luxe admitted.

"You have?" He asked and Luxe felt a blush creep across the bridge of her nose.

"Of course. No one seems to get me like you do Andy. You've been there for me and I've felt lost without having you around." She said and he felt speechless. Andy thought that Luxe hated him-Char had even told him so, but now it seemed like along with being a great singer, Luxe was also one hell of an actress.

"I feel the same way. The guys-they get me, but I don't think they always like the fact that they get me." Andy said and they both laughed softly.

It was amazing to them that they could just drift back in to this space of getting one another and knowing that there would always be a connection with one another. Finally the air had been cleared and it seemed like now the two of them could go on with finishing their records together, like it was meant to be.

"So...friends?" Andy asked as he rubbed his thumb across her skin and Luxe knew then and there that she would never be able to shake Andy. He was a part of her...he always would be.

"Friends..." She nodded and this time she knew that nothing could tear them apart.

They were meant to be with one another, some way or other and right now it was as best friends.

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
