Love And Other Drugs

Finally There

The sound of her boots hitting the tile floor as she walked down the hallway towards the studio filled Luxe's ears and her the rest of her senses. Had it only been a few years ago that she had first walked down this hall to go meet the girls for the first time? Looking left and then right at the walls, Luxe smiled as her own face flashed before her-at the time it had just been Andy's blue eyes that had stared her down...judging her even then.

Lost in the nostalgia, Luxe stopped and touch a blown up picture of she and the girls on the cover of AP magazine-one of their first shoots together. Standing there, Luxe's eyes glazed over in a memory that she had thought was long forgotten...

Lucinda gulped as the elevator came to a stop and the doors popped open to reveal a long hallway with framed posters and magazine covers lining the walls.

As she walked down, Lucinda noticed that most of the magazine covers had the same group of guys on the front and she couldn't help but giggle as she looked at them. They were covered in makeup, their hair was styled in a way that Lucinda had only ever seen her mother do it-almost to the ceiling-and they were all wearing very tight pants. One guy seemed to be in the forefront alot and as she passed a magazine cover with just him, she couldn't help but get lost in his light blue eyes.

"Here we are! Now Lucinda, don't worry if the girls don't warm up to you right away-especially Madeline-I know once they hear you sing that they will love you." Alex said to her, obviously trying to be a comfort but failing miserably.

"O-okay..." Lucinda said softly as she waited behind Alex as he knocked and then pushed the door open.

The first thing Lucinda heard was the loud wailing of a guitar, a profanity and then laughter. She heard them before she saw them and as she turned the corner behind Alex, Lucinda felt like her heart was going to stop beating. There they were-four girls in various stages of playing their instruments and the first person Lucinda noticed was a taller girl with light purple hair. Her clothing was all black-black skinny jeans, a black t-shirt and black boots that went up to her knees. She had a white guitar in her hands and she was smiling at the girl who was sitting behind the drums. Lucinda knew that the purple haired girl could either be Talula, Penelope or Charlotte and as Alex cleared his throat all four girls turned to face the newcomers.

"Ladies-I've found you a singer..."

It was then that Luxe realized that she had continued to walk and was now standing in front of the studio door. Today was the day-today was their last day of working on what all of the girls thought was their best record yet. It was filled with so much emotion-the songs held such a meaning to all of them and this time it didn't feel contrived or over worked. Alex had left them alone-for the most part-and it seemed to Luxe like the producer/manager had finally given up on the girls being the perfect female rock band.

They were The Hollywood Dolls and nothing was going to change that.

A cool air hit her cheeks as Luxe pulled open the studio door and realized that she was the last one to arrive. It was strange to think that this was it-the last day and then their album would be sent off to be finalized. They had worked hard for every aspect of this album and while it had been exhausting, Luxe knew it was going to be worth it. She only wished that she and Andy were speaking right now because she really missed him.

It had been three weeks since Luxe had left him laying in that bed-three weeks of no contact and it was killing her not to speak to Andy, but Luxe knew that this was for the best right now. He needed to see how she felt and her silence-for now-was saying everything.

"Luxey girl!" Jimmy said from his chair at the mixing board. All of the girls were sitting around the room, mixed looks of excitement and fear on their faces.
This was it.

"Sorry I'm late." Luxe said as she took a seat next to Char on the leather couch that had become their brain storming place during the entire process. A lot had been said on this couch and now this would be the last time the girls would sit on it...at least for a while.

"No worries. I was just running something by the girls...a little idea I had before we ship this thing off." Jimmy chuckled and Luxe noticed that all of the girls were smiling softly. What was going on?

"Oh yeah? What's the idea?" Luxe asked as she looked around the room at her bandmates. Char, who was sitting next to her, just wrapped an arm around Luxe's shoulders, pulling her close until their cheeks were touching.

"I thought it would be a fun thing if you girls each did a track, talking to the fans or listeners about how much the band and the fanbase mean to you. Give the loyal audience a treat at the very end of the record." Jimmy said and Luxe suddenly felt her heart clench. She loved the idea, but what would she say?

"I love it." Luxe said simply, even though on the inside her gut was filled with panic. It was hard for her to tell her fans how much she loved them and how thankful she was to them for always sticking by her and supporting her, even when she fucked a lot of things up.

"Wonderful. Pixie has volunteered to go first if that's alright by everyone..." Jimmy said and Luxe only nodded as she watched her bandmate get up and head towards the booth.
Pixie was adorable-always was and always would be just a small slip of a girl and Luxe couldn't keep the smile off her face as she remembered her first time meeting the fairy like girl...

Penelope was the one with the black hair on the bottom and the white on top and she was a tad shorter than Lucinda and wearing a very cute sun dress that flared out around her knees and had tiny bows all over the place.

Even then Pixie had been cute as a button and Luxe should known then and there that they would be fast friends.

"Hey guys, it's Pixie here. I just want to thank you for buying this record-a labor of love me and the girls are very proud of. I know we've let you guys down in the past, but if anything you should learn from our mistakes and know that only you can be your biggest enemy. It means a lot to me to have your love and support and just know that I can't wait to get out there and meet every single one of you."

Luxe smiled as the small girl finished up-it didn't seem to be that hard.

"I'm next." Lulu said, standing up and giving Luxe a pat on the head as she walked past. Pixie entered the room, smiling as she took her seat and they all watched as Lulu got in the small booth.

Luxe smiled as she remembered seeing sweet Lulu for the first time...

Talula, the girl who seemed the nicest and had black hair on the bottom with orange on top, was taller than Penelope but the two girls actually looked kind of similar. Both had smaller facial features, wide eyes-Penelope had light blue where Talula had a dull green-and pouty lips. They were both smiling at her and Lucinda couldn't help but smile back-these two were probably going to be her friends first.

It had been true and Luxe would always be grateful to those two girls for embracing her right on the spot-no questions asked.

"Lulu here and man am I excited for you guys to hear this record. I honestly think that this is the best work we've ever done and just know that a lot of it comes straight from the heart. The past is in the past and there it shall stay. I love you guys and I'll see you on tour soon enough."

Short and sweet, just like Lulu.

Mads was next and as the constantly angry black haired girl walked towards the booth, Luxe couldn't help but remember how far the two of them had come...as friends and as people.

Madeline, on the other hand, was scowling and it made her face look pinched-her brown eyes mere slits as the angry girl with the red and black hair took Lucinda in. She was the new comer and Madeline couldn't help but wonder if the girl even had any talent.

Luxe had proved Mads wrong and eventually they had become friends.

"Fuck this is hard. Hey guys, it's Mads and I just wanted to tell you guys that even though I seem like I hate all of you, I really do love you and am really happy that you bought this record. Come out and rock with us...I can't wait to see you in the crowd."

Luxe smirked-it was just like Mads to make it quick and to the point.

Char patted her on the shoulder as she stood up-Luxe was going last it seemed. Luxe only swatted at her best friend's retreated legs, a memory flashing before her eyes.

Charlotte wasn't scowling at her, but her purple hair was hanging in her face, pieces of it crimped and tangled. Her light blue eyes were magnetic and stood out with all of the black makeup that was surrounding her irises.

That purple hair, Luxe would never forget it...ever.

"It's Char and I don't really know what to say other than thanks for always being there for us. We've fucked up, but a lot of you have still come out, sang your hearts out with us and I just honestly can't wait to see you on the road again this coming year. I love you...from the bottom of my heart."

Before Luxe could even breathe, Char was walking out of the booth, tears in her light eyes and Luxe knew it was her turn. She stood up, walking slowly towards the booth all the while trying to think about what she wanted to say. It was hard, admitting that she was wrong, but Luxe knew it had to be done.

Taking a deep breath, Luxe leaned towards the mic that was now in front of her and shut her eyes.

"H-hey all of you out there. This is Luxe and I'm probably going to fuck this up, but hey what else is new? I know I've let a lot of you down over the years-I let myself get to in to the life I thought I needed to live. The best thing I can tell you is that I'm sorry for not being there for you guys like I should of been. I've read every letter you've sent me and I have a binder full of all of the gorgeous art that had crossed over my hands as well. The best thing I can say to you is that I love you and I want you to know that those times...the times I lost myself...well they're behind me. I am a new Luxe, with a new record that I know you guys are going to enjoy and I hope you all can forgive me and still have my back at the end of the day. I love you from the bottom of my heart and I just want us all to rock out this year...so come see me because I'm ready this time. I'm ready to be there for all of you..."

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

I'm pretty sure I've done nothing but cry while reading these last few chapters. You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
