Love And Other Drugs

Not Yet Broken

Luxe sighed as she browsed through the book, but nothing was catching her eye. Sure she and Andy could sing some stupid duet, but they were better than that. Andy was right beside her, looking over her shoulder and Luxe could tell he was just as unimpressed. They'd had fun watching their friends get up here and joke around, but the two singers couldn't help but take themselves seriously. There were plenty of songs to choose from, but Luxe knew that Andy was just as picky as she was.

"What do you think?" She asked him, turning from the book as she looked over her shoulder at him. Andy had his hair pushed back from his face-something he did when he was lost in thought. He finally looked at her, his blue eyes amused.

"I think we should sit back down and let everyone else sing these absurd songs." He said gruffly and Luxe only rolled her eyes at him. She took herself seriously, but Andy was even worse.

"Oh come on...this is supposed to be fun." Luxe said as she finally turned to the last page. It was labeled as the page with newer songs on it and Luxe only smiled as she scanned her eyes to the very bottom and recognized a song title.

"Sure...and it's supposed to be embarrassing." Andy stated, obviously not paying any attention to the song she was pointing to.

"Oh stop." She laughed, elbowing him in the ribs softly. It seemed to get his attention and Andy smiled as he looked down to where her finger was pointed and nodded.

"Perfect." He said and she smiled.

"I thought so."

The couple headed towards the stage, Luxe trying to focus on the number in her head until she got in front of the small screen. There was a remote sitting on the small table beside the prompter and as she picked it up, Luxe tried to not focus on the crowd. It was one thing standing in front of an entire club filled with her fans-they loved her no matter what-but now she was standing in front of her friends and bandmates. Luxe's fans were always on her side, but sometimes the girls liked to pick at her for fun.

There were two stools sitting off to the side and as Andy reached the stage he moved to grab them. It had been so long since he had performed this song-they hadn't sung it in years, not even during their summer on Warped together-that he thought he may have to use the prompter to help him out. Luxe took a seat on the stool closest to the side of the stage and Andy quickly sat down beside her. He had grabbed both mics from their stands and quickly handed one to Luxe.

"Hey guys. For those of you who don't know us-I'm Luxe and this is my boyfriend Andy. Our friends made us come up here...sorry if we suck." Luxe said in to her mic. Her thumb was hovering over the start button and she was just waiting for Andy to give her the go ahead.

"Landy for life!" Pixie called out to the couple and Luxe tried to keep her blush to a minimum. Landy was she and Andy's nickname invented by their fans and it was something that while cute, was also slightly weird.

Luxe looked to Andy, seeing if he was ready and with a slight nod from him, she pressed the button. A familiar guitar sounded out from the speakers and suddenly Luxe was taken back. They had shot the video for this song a few years ago and then there had been the huge premier party that she hadn't wanted to go to. That had been when she and Andy kind of sorta liked one another, but she still thought he was a pompous ass. God that had been before everything had crashed, burned and then begun heal itself.

As she sat there and waited for her part, Luxe just watched Andy sing and silently thought about how lucky of a girl she was to have someone like him in her life.

I wanted you to know I love the way you laugh
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain away
I keep your photograph, I know it serves me well
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

It was weird hearing this song after so long and it almost made Luxe wish that she could go back to the day they had recorded it. Andy had waltzed in to the studio, all hair, makeup and attitude and Luxe had just sat there and watched him be an ass. Maybe if she had stood up for herself then, instead of just sitting silently, he would of gained respect for her. It would of made the following tour much easier, but then again they may of never ended up together.

Funny how things worked out like that-one never knew how things were going to come about or end. The Butterfly Effect.

The worst is over now and we can breathe again
I wanna hold you high, you steal my pain away
There's so much left to learn, and no one left to fight
I wanna hold you high and steal your pain

The two of them blended their voices together during the chorus, forming a bond that they hadn't even known they had until this very minute. Luxe had the perfect voice to match Andy's-where his went low, her's was just high enough and when his was gravelly, Luxe's was as smooth as silk. It was a perfect duet and as the people in the bar all stopped to watch this couple perform, they knew they were looking at perfection.

Of course only their friends knew that they both sang for a living, so the rest of the bar just thought they were witnessing something akin to a miracle happen. That was fine for Luxe and as the song came to an end and she just sat there, catching her breath, she looked out in to the crowd. Char and Pixie were standing up, clapping their hands so hard Luxe was worried they wouldn't be able to play in the studio tomorrow.

Alot of people were standing up and Luxe only laughed as she placed the mic back in it's stand and then took a deep bow. Even though they hadn't planned on getting up on that small stage tonight, Luxe and Andy both knew that it had been the perfect ending to a fun night. They sat back down, watching as another couple got up to sing, but there was no comparison.

The group collectively all decided to call it a night and as people gathered purses, coats and paid their tabs, Luxe and Andy just stood by their table. Andy was behind her, his arms wrapped around her waist and Luxe softly rested her head back against his chest. The leather of his jacket was a comfort, something that she would miss in the coming weeks while he was up in Vancouver.

"Hey, some of us were going to head to Ash's place to hang out a bit longer. You guys in?" Char asked as she walked up to the couple. They look adorable standing there-it was sickening.

"Nah. I think we're going to head home and get some sleep-long day in the studio tomorrow." Andy stated and Char only nodded and looked to her bandmate. She hadn't seen Luxe this relaxed and happy in a long time-maybe never and it was a really nice thing to see.

"See you tomorrow Luxe?" Char asked before walking away and the singer only looked at her friend and smirked.

"Yep-ready to hear you shred that guitar to bits. Have a good night guys!" Luxe said, calling out to those who were leaving and passing them by without saying anything.

"Let's get home babe..." Andy whispered in her ear and Luxe shivered as his breath crossed over her skin.

"I'm looking forward to it." She said with a smile as they both followed the group out of the bar and hit the street.

It had been a fun night singing Broken again, but little did either of them know that they would never sing it together again.

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

I'm pretty sure I've done nothing but cry while reading these last few chapters. You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
