Love And Other Drugs

The Break In

"How's your soup?" Andy asked from across the kitchen table and Luxe only smiled before taking another sip of her soup. The room was quiet, the only sound coming from the cars outside on the street and the low music sounding out from the stereo in the living room.

"It's good. Where did you get it from again?" Luxe asked as she finished it off, chewing on the bits of carrot and potato. Andy only smiled at her from over the rim of his bowl before speaking.

"There's this new shop on the way over here from my place. It's called Soup Haven-tiny shop, but they seemed to be doing pretty well." Andy said with a smirk as he got up from his seat, his own bowl in hand.

The two of them stayed silent as Andy reached down in front of her, grabbing for Luxe's bowl before disappearing around the other side of the bar. The sound of running water hitting the basin of the sink broke the silence and Luxe only smiled. She loved having nights like this with Andy-peaceful, normal and filled with nothing but the two of them.

Normally when Andy and Luxe went out together, or even without one another, they were followed and berated. Whether it was the paps or the fans, there wasn't a peaceful moment for the couple. Not even a week ago Luxe and Andy had tried to venture out and see a movie-big mistake. Andy had almost crashed his car trying to get away from a photographer and then Luxe almost got in to a fight with a girl while they were in line because she wouldn't stop making comments about the couple under her breath to a friend.

Luxe had felt uncomfortable the rest of the night and even thinking back to it now she was feeling angry. Luxe sat at the table as Andy washed the dishes, her finger tracing over the grain in the table as she thought everything over. The girls were finally done with the demo process and they now needed to weed through the fifteen songs they had written to decide which ones were going to go on the album. It was a rough choice, but it had to be made.

There were a few songs that were obvious choices-American Boys, Daughters of Darkness, Let Me Down, Freak Like Me, Love Bites, Other Side, Defame Me, Mz. Hyde, I Miss the Misery and finally a song that meant everything to Luxe-Break In. That song was the reason why Luxe had asked Andy to come over that night-she wanted him to hear it before they started tracking it. The song was probably one of the most personal ones she had ever written and Luxe was feeling nervous as she thought about him hearing it.

"I think you've dug half way to China by now." Someone said to her and Luxe almost jumped out of her chair as she looked around and saw that Andy had finished with the dishes and was standing over her.

"Wha?" Luxe asked as she watched Andy take a seat and reach for her shaking hands. She had never felt this nervous before-not even the first time she had ever stepped on a stage.

"Babe? What's going on? You're shaking like a Chihuahua." Andy laughed as he held her hands and looked in to her grey eyes. Luxe looked like she wanted to either throw up, cry or a mixture of both.

"I'm just-it's just...I have something to show you." Luxe said softly and Andy's entire face changed. His smirk disappeared, his blue eyes lost their shine and suddenly Luxe's hands weren't the only ones shaking.

"Oh God...oh God..." Andy said as he jumped up and began to pace. He had his hands on top of his head, his fingers weaving through his growing newly blackened hair and Luxe felt confused. She hadn't even said anything-yet alone had she done anything yet and Andy was acting like she had told him she was pregnant or something.

Oh wait...

"Andy..." Luxe said from her seat, a bemused smile on her lips. He was still pacing, still pulling at his hair and now Andy was gasping for breath.

"Look, whatever you're thinking I'm completely okay with. I mean if you want to keep it then we'll work something out, but I'd completely understand if you need to...uh..." Andy stopped then and finally seemed to be able to sit still. Luxe was just sitting in her chair, her arm draped over the back of it as she smiled at him.

"I think you got the wrong idea Andy..." Luxe said as she stood up and walked over to him. Her arms wrapped around his neck and she kissed the tender skin under his chin.

"You-you're not pregnant?" Andy stammered, chewing down on his absent lip ring as he stared at her.

"God no. No I wanted you to come over because...because I have a song that I want you to hear." She spat the last part out as quickly as she could and Andy only chuckled and smashed a hand against his face.

"That's it?" He asked, his voice going up an octave and Luxe only giggled as she looped one of her arms through his and they both walked towards the living room.

"That's it, promise. Sit-uh-sit down." Luxe said as she led him over to the couch and then took a seat on the small bench seated in front of her piano. It had come with the townhouse-most of the furniture had-and while Luxe didn't consider herself a musician when it came to the piano, but she knew enough to play a tune.

Andy was silent as he sat there, his jeans tight around his thighs as he patted his hands against the tops of his legs. Luxe was just sitting at the piano and Andy silently wondered if she even knew how to play. His girlfriend had always claimed not to be musically talented, but Andy knew that when Luxe opened her mouth, the most beautiful sound came out. Sitting there, his eyes wandered to the corner, where a large glass cabinet sat, holding all of her awards. Kerrang K's, Golden God Awards for best female vocal, two years running, and a brand new award from the AP Awards-Female Vocalist of the Year. Andy was proud of Luxe-she had come along way and seemed to only be moving up.

"Luce? You okay?" Andy asked softly.

There was no answer and just as he was about to ask again, Andy stopped and listened. A soft tinkling noise came from the piano and Andy felt all of the air leave his chest as Luxe opened her mouth and seemed to get lost in the music.

Put your lighter in the air and lead me back home
When it's all said and done I'll follow the echoes
I hear you night after night calling out my name
And I find myself running to meet you
I didn't want to escape
From the bricks that I laid down

You are the only one
The only one that sees me
Trusts me and believes me
You are the only one
The only one that knows me
And in the dark you show me
Yeah it's perfectly reckless
Damn, you leave me defenseless
So break in
Break in

Andy listened to the song and he knew, immediately, that it was about him. No wonder Luxe had felt so nervous and seemed so off earlier tonight. Andy remembered everything that they had been through the past year or so and he knew now, more than ever, that it had all be worth it. They had broken down one another's walls, been there and put one another through hell and yet as he got up and took a seat beside Luxe, Andy knew...

He loved her now more than ever and nothing would change that.

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

I'm pretty sure I've done nothing but cry while reading these last few chapters. You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
