Love And Other Drugs

Girls Night

"Pass the Cheetos!" Pixie called out and Luxe only laughed softly as she passed the large bowl of cheese powder covered puffs towards the guitarist.

"God how do you eat so much and stay so skinny?!" Char asked, laughing as she sipped her beer and readjusted the guitar in her lap. Luxe just looked around, smiling as she finally began to relax.

Seeing the girls standing there at her Urban Decay shoot had made Luxe's heart stop beating, but as soon as Char embraced her and told her how proud she was of the singer, everything seemed to be okay. Luxe hadn't really meant to keep it a secret from the girls-she had just been scared of failing and even though the other girls were a mess, Luxe desperately wanted their approval. She had kept her success to herself and now the girls were wanting to know why.

They had all stuck around through the rest of the shoot and then got in to Pixie's Escalade, stopping by the Chinese take out place before heading over to Char's. Now they were all sitting in the middle of Char's den floor, pigging out on egg rolls, chips and alcohol-well Luxe was drinking water. It reminded Luxe of the early days when they would all crowd in to Char's tiny apartment on the bad side of LA and work on songs for the first album.

The glitz and the glamour hadn't been there and even now some of it had faded.

The girls had all been through a lot and while most of them continued to party pretty hard, it would never get as bad as it had been during their touring for the second album. Those dark days were over with and Luxe was thankful for it. She had brought along her notebook, filled already with the four songs that they planned on putting to the demo and now they were starting to work on another one. Luxe sipped at her water and tuned back in to what the girls were talking about.

"So I was thinking we should write a song for our fans." Lulu was saying and Luxe only continued to listen as she slurped up a bite of her Lo Mein.

"What do you mean? Most of our songs are for the fans." Mads stated and Luxe could see that she had a point. A lot, if not most of their songs, were for the fans and they had become anthems that their fans chanted while they were waiting in line.

"I know, but this one will be just for them." Lulu said between bites of her egg roll. Char sat there with her guitar on her lap, staring off in to space and Luxe tried to make eye contact with the purple haired girl. All of the girls had changed their hair many times over-except for Char. The purple fit her and Luxe knew the guitarist would have that hair until the day she died.

"What did you have in mind?" Pixie asked and that's when it all began to click in to place for Luxe.

A song for their fans-a song depicting what their fans went through at a show-the rush they felt whenever they stood in the crowd and listened to the wailing guitars and pounding drums. Luxe herself felt that rush, even when she was on stage and she knew that there was no other place in the world like a rock show. Sometimes when Char was doing a solo or they were in between songs, Luxe would look out in to the crowd and just take the girls in the front row in.

They banged their heads, waving their hair back and forth with their fists in the air. It seemed like they went in to some sort of trance and it was amazing to watch. The crowd surfers were another thing that Luxe loved to see and she loved it even more when she slapped their hands as they got close enough to the stage. Their energy was magnetic and it was addictive seeing all of these kids sing along with her, chanting her words back at her.

It was in that moment that Luxe knew what she needed to write and so just as she had this morning with her first song, her small hands began to fly across the page. The girls all grew silent as they noticed her fast pace, but Luxe didn't look up from her paper. This song would have a lot of power to it-loud chords, solos and heavy drums.

It would be perfect.

"There-see what you guys think." Luxe said after twenty minutes of scribbling as she handed the notebook over to Char. The girls all surrounded the guitarist and stayed silent as they read over the words.

"I think I see what you're doing. Here, sing it while I play a few chords." Char said as she tossed the notebook back towards Luxe and then picked up her guitar. A few chords began to come out of the guitar and Luxe smiled as she caught the beat and opened her mouth.

Little girl
You like it loud
Come alive in the middle of a crowd
You wanna scream
You wanna shout
Get excited when the lights go down

At the rock show
You'll be right in the front row
Heart and soul, they both know
It’s where you gotta be
Little girl, there you are
All the lighters looking just like stars
Sing along, feel the sound
Take a ride on the hands of the crowd
Here it comes, the moment when
You know you’ll never be the same again
Power chord, see the light
You found your place in the world tonight

Luxe continued to sing, laughing when Char missed a chord and stuck her tongue out at the singer. All of the girls were nodding their heads to the tune-even Mads-and they all knew that this was it. Of course it would take some tweaking when they got in to the studio, but as the song finished up and Luxe let the last note leave her lips, they all knew exactly how they wanted the video for this song to go when it got to that point.

"I fucking love that." Pixie said as she reached to grab a beer and took a large gulp. Luxe only nodded her head, sipping her water before speaking.

"I mean it's a start." Luxe said, always the humble one of the group. Char just looked at the girl sitting across from her and stared. Luxe was an amazing song writer and even now after two and a half records the girl still didn't give herself enough credit.

"No, no it's perfect. I know Angela has been recording bits and pieces from our shows over the past few years and I think this song placed over those clips and then recordings of our fans would make for the perfect video to this song." Char said and all of the girls agreed.
It was time that they gave their fans the salute that they deserved for sticking with the troubled band for so long.

"Sounds like a plan. Well I think I'm gonna get a cab and head back home." Luxe said as she started to get up, but stopped when she felt someone place a hand on her arm. It was Pixie and the blonde haired girl was only smiling at her softly.

"No, Luxe. Please stay and hang out with us some more. We can have a sleep over...like we used to." Luxe only smiled, but she couldn't help but eye the beer bottles that were still sitting in the middle of the group. She didn't want to sit around and hang out while the girls all got wasted.

"Here..." Char said as she quickly grabbed up all of the bottles, walked over to the front door and tossed them outside. The sound of smashing glass echoed through the night and Luxe laughed softly as Mads whined but then stopped.

"Thanks. Who's up for working on some more songs?" Luxe asked, holding up her notebook and all of the girls just laughed.

It would be the one night that it felt like old times before everything began to fall apart.

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

I'm pretty sure I've done nothing but cry while reading these last few chapters. You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
