Love And Other Drugs

Woman Of the Year

"Alright everyone! We're about to start shooting!" Someone called out and Luxe took a deep breath and just looked out around her.

They were in a very large warehouse, somewhere near New Jersey and she was almost completely naked. The lights hanging over them all were bright, making her squint through her dark shadowed eyes and her cherry lips were pulled in to a tight smile. She was doing a solo photoshoot for Revolver which was going to be the cover for their 'Best Women In Rock' issue. It was only Luxe, something that had not gone unnoticed with the other girls this morning when the car showed up to take Luxe away.

Typically the girls were all very supportive of one another and their side projects-Luxe had been the first one to hug Char after her shoot with Guitar Magazine and the girls had all embraced Pixie over the summer when she said she wanted to start her own dress line. But for some reason Luxe was immune to this support. Perhaps it was because Alex made such a huge deal about it or because Luxe had Andy there with her, but the girls looked less than pleased.

The thing was-Luxe hated doing these things alone. It was far less fun to stand or lay in front of a room of people who were all staring at you without having someone beside you to make funny faces with. It was only Luxe sitting in a makeup chair, alone, instead of five chairs lined up and all of the girls chittering to one another as they got their brows filled in or their lips were painted. Sure, Andy was standing on the side of the set, his leather jacket clad arms crossed over his chest and small smirk on his lips, but it wasn't the same.

"Luxe-look at me doll face." A man with a large camera said and Luxe turned her face slightly so that she was looking forward but could still see Andy out of the corner of her eye. His hair was back to it's light brown, something he was doing for his Andy Black video that he would be shooting in the coming week.

"That's right, now scowl at me...hate me." The photographer was saying and Luxe did as he asked. She scowled her perfectly made up grey eyes at him, tugging the Mz. Hyde shirt she was wearing down to cover her boy short clad body.

The camera snapped away, the flashes making her eyes sting but Luxe held her poses. She moved around, letting go of the shirt as the photographer moved to shoot her from the side. She was wearing one of their tour shirts-a faux ripped shirt with 'Mz. Hyde' emblazoned on the front of it. Under that she had on a pair of black boy shorts, which was nice as they covered most of her ass. Her legs ended in a pair of spiked crusher boots. Her hair, the now golden blonde color shining in the light, was teased and wild looking.

Andy watched from the side of the set, a small smirk playing on his lips as he observed Luxe do what she was naturally good at. It was obvious to anyone who was watching that the camera loved Luxe and Andy felt a sense of pride swell up within him as he watched this girl achieve her dreams. He could remember when Luxe was just a scared twenty year old who could barely hold a mic and now here she was-shooting to be on the cover of one of the best rock magazines out there.

Andy understood her hesitance though-shooting alone for a cover held a lot of weight over someone's head, not to mention the strain it put on the band. BVB had almost broken up because of Andy doing a lot of solo things, which had lead him to put his solo ideas in to something else so that the band wouldn't suffer. That was where Andy Black had come from and he was proud of the work he had done. Of course Luxe wasn't totally behind it, but Andy understood her point.

There were a lot of bands who had their singers or other members begin a solo project and then those bands slowly seemed to break apart. But Andy was adamant that that would not happen in his case simply because BVB was his baby. Andy Black was a way for him to get out his ideas about different styles of music without it hurting the guys or the bands image and sound. In just a week Andy would be shooting his video for the first Andy Black single and he was slightly nervous about it. He had never done something alone before, but he was up for the challenge.

"Looking good out there babe." Andy said as Luxe walked over to him, a bottle of water up to her lips. He watched as she chugged the entire thing and then smirked as a red ring of lipstick was left on the top.

"Thanks. It's just always weird being out there by myself." She said and Andy only nodded-he knew how she felt.

"Yeah, but sometimes doing things alone can be good. The other girls must be really happy for you." He said and Luxe only rolled her eyes as she grabbed for one of his hands. The two of them walked off towards a small area that was set aside with food and couches.

"Oh yeah...they looked thrilled when my big black town car came to pick me up this morning." Luxe stated sardonically and Andy winced. He had seen the car and thought that this was another ploy from Alex to try and get the girls fighting again. The producer and manager loved the drama and knew it would be good for the coming record.

"They love you Luce..." Andy said as he placed an arm around her shoulder. Luxe said nothing as she just leaned her head against Andy's arm and closed her eyes. She wanted this day to be over...it just wasn't happening fast enough.

"I know...it's just hard finding this balance." She said sadly and Andy only nodded.

The two of them stayed like that for a bit while the set was being changed. Andy loved seeing Luxe like this-not stressed, worry free and smiling. He knew that the past few months of them being apart had been hard on the girl, but she was strong. Andy had worried about Luxe-so much that Ash had stopped speaking to him for a week-but he knew deep down that she would be okay. Luxe was a fighter and she knew that the stakes were high and that everything could be ruined.

Soon enough Luxe had to head towards makeup for some touch ups and then she would be back in front of the camera. Andy stayed where he was-he had seen enough makeup tables and wardrobe rooms in his life and he didn't need to see anymore. Luxe was quick to change, reappearing moments later in a tight black dress, a pair of stud covered pumps and Andy felt his heart stop beating.

Luxe was the girl of his dreams and as Andy sat there and watched her get her hair resprayed before getting in front of the camera, he knew that this was the girl he was going to marry. They had joked about it a few times-Andy would be on tour with the girls as they traveled down to Vegas and everyone said that they should get married when they got there. But something in Andy was holding back-he still had a lot left to do in his career and Luxe wasn't really ready to settle down either. Were they going to get married and then never see one another? It didn't really seem like it was going to work at the moment.

Would they have kids?

Which one of them would quit their bands to take care of those kids?

Would they start to resent one another?

Where would they live?

How would they afford their life together?

All of these questions pinged around in Andy's brain as he sat and watched Luxe get ready for her next set of shots. Suddenly everything seemed to stop as a PA handed Luxe her phone. The singer had been all smiles at first, but then her smile quickly turned to a frown and Andy could see the tears in her grey eyes from where he was sitting. He jumped up, pushing past someone with an armful of things just to get to Luxe quicker.

"Babe? Babe what's wrong?" He asked as he reached her. Luxe didn't look up from her phone at first, but he could hear her sniffling as she finally looked up and it was obvious that she was holding back tears.

Something terrible had happened and Andy's mind reeled with all of the possibilities. It could be anything, but as Luxe opened her mouth and fell against him, Andy knew that this was something that neither of them had prepared for.

"My dad's dead..."

Notes

Uh oh...I wonder how Luxe is going to handle this one...

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

I'm pretty sure I've done nothing but cry while reading these last few chapters. You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
