Love And Other Drugs

A Wrench In The Plans

The warehouse they were all standing in was huge-placed at the very back of the Universal Studios lot-but as Luxe looked around, she still thought it was crowded. In one corner of the building was an entire laboratory set, with bubbling and steaming test tubes, a skeleton hanging from a hook and a lot of gore-ish looking instruments. That was where her character-Mz. Hyde-would be stationed during her single shots.

Luxe was already in hair and makeup-half of her face done up beautifully, with her long blonde hair curling in ringlets and her grey eyes were masked in a pretty white and grey shadow. The other side of her face-however-was covered in dripping makeup. Her eyeliner was halfway down her cheeks and her cherry red lipstick was smudged all over her lips. Her hair was messy, frizzy and sticking up.

She was Mz. Hyde.

The entire concept for the video was Luxe playing the part of her evil side, Mz. Hyde, and walking through her many experiments, which were the other girls. Luxe pulled her lab coat, which was laying over her skinny jeans and ripped t-shirt, around her more as she looked around to the other small sets.

There was the cage set, where she would be towards the end of the song, dressed as a full on Mz. Hyde. Then there was the 'goodie two shoes' set, where Pixie would be stationed. It was all pink and pretty, with lots of pillows and stuffed animals. There Luxe would show Pixie-the perfect girl-off until she snapped her fingers and Pixie turned in to the bad girl she really was.

The set beside that one was for Mads-which was a small bar set with fake glass that Luxe would throw the drummer in to. Once Mads stood up, she would also be transformed in to another Mz. Hyde creation. Mads was standing near her set, her now all black hair pulled up and out of her face, but still messy and sticking up. She was in her usual-bikini top, leather pants and motorcycle boots. The two of them shared a smile before Luxe looked around at the next set.

Char, who was dressed in next to nothing, was standing in the stripper set, her high heels looking painful as she stood there in her bra, panties and fish nets. She was playing the 'bitch/whore' and would be surrounded by men as she danced. Luxe would then come in, switching her over to another form, but not before snapping her fingers and making all of the men disappear. Char looked amazing with her purple hair teased and tousled, her light eyes smokey and black looking and Luxe stuck her tongue out at her best friend as she walked past.

Lulu's set was the final one-with the bassist standing in the middle dressed in her princess dress. Her scene would be of the bassist standing there, looking all sweet and innocent-much like Pixie-until Luxe came along and tried to entice her to come to the evil side of things. The girls fight for a moment, until finally Lulu gives in and follows Luxe out of the frame. It was all looking really good and Luxe was just happy that they were shooting another video.

The final shot was of the girls on a stage, where fifty of their luckiest fans would be waiting. They would perform the song entirely-probably more than once-and those live shots would be added in randomly to the video between set changes and most likely in the chorus sections.

Luxe was excited, but deep down she was also kind of scared. What if they failed again? The EP had been doing great since the summer, but now it was time to buckle down and work on another album and that scared Luxe more than anything. It was so much pressure-making an album that the girls were all happy with, but it also had to sell.

Their fans were begging for more, but there was some skepticism in their eager faces. The last record had been a mess-it had made no sense and the songs had been more pop than they had wanted.

Sighing loudly Luxe moved over to the small break area, but then groaned as she noticed that Alex was sitting on one of the couches, his laptop in his lap.

"Come take a seat Luxe..." Alex said without even looking up as he patted the couch beside him. Luxe rolled her eyes, shoving her hands in her pockets as she walked over to the manager and flopped down beside him.

"Making plans for the rest of my life?" She asked sarcastically and Alex only huffed as he finally looked up at the girl sitting beside him. What a change a few years made-Luxe was a beauty, his perfect rocker girl and she was making him millions.

"Possibly. I just scored you girls your next tour. Ladies!" Alex called out and Luxe looked around to see that her bandmates were all looking towards them. Alex waved a hand and soon enough the rest of the couches were covered in her costumed bandmates.

"What did we do now?" Char asked, cracking open a bottle of water and taking a sip before offering Luxe some. The singer took a sip, but she was holding her breath. Even though it was unlikely, she was still hoping for another tour with BVB so that she could run around with Andy for another six months.

"You did nothing, but I have scored you girls your next four month long tour." Alex said matter of factly and all of the girls just looked at one another. The last tour they had been on-except Warped-had ended in disaster and they were all slightly worried.

"Who with?!" Pixie asked, the excitement in her voice making all of their bodies vibrate. Luxe closed her eyes, ready to hear BVB's name, but as soon as Alex spoke, she popped her eyes open and held back her disappointed tears.

"All Time Low-who will be headlining officially. There are a few smaller bands, but you girls still get top billing. I know-I'm a genius." Alex sounded so proud of himself, but all of the girls looked mildly disappointed.

They all loved BVB, which was strange because they had all hated one another for a good two months when they had first met. But the guys had really been there for the Dolls, especially when they were all trying to get sober and work on the band.

CC had been the comic relief-calling each girl every morning to check up on them in the funniest ways. Jake and Jinxx were the best listeners, taking the girls calls even in the middle of the night when they felt the urge to use. Ashley had just been there-sometimes acting as delivery boy when the girls didn't want to leave their bus on Warped because they were worried about getting in to trouble. Andy-well he was there for Luxe the most, but that was important because the troubled singer had it the worst.

All of the other girls could just quit at any time, but Luxe had to detox and then come to grips with the fact that this evil thing was in her. Addiction was a part of who she was and there would be no escaping it. The booze and the drugs would follow Luxe to her grave and everyone in her life was terrified that it was going to be an early grave.

Luxe finally managed to get her tears under control and looked up to see that everyone was looking at her. Alex was excited, but the other girls looked worried and so she tried to give them an encouraging smile.

"Luxe?" Alex asked, that excited smile still on his lips. The singer inhaled deeply, trying to stay in control before opening her mouth.

"That sounds really awesome Alex-when do we leave? After the new year?" She asked and Alex's smile faltered. Oh no...deep within her gut Luxe knew that what he was about to say wasn't going to be good.

"In three weeks." He said, his voice barely above a whisper. Luxe felt like someone had punched her in the gut. Andy would be home in a month...so they would completely miss one another.

All of the holiday plans the couple had talked about before he left scanned across her brain and Luxe tried, but failed, to hold her tears in. They had talked about going ice skating, making gingerbread houses and traveling out to Ohio to see his parents. Luxe had been so excited and it was those plans that had gotten her through the lonely nights. Everyone was staring at her now and Luxe didn't give a shit. Her makeup was probably ruined, but she knew deep down that this was going to be her undoing.

"O-oh. That's really soon. We thought tours usually started after the holidays." Mads said from her spot. Luxe felt numb and not even Char placing a protective arm around her shoulders could make the singer feel better.

"Typically, yes it would be after the new year. But we wanted to get you girls out there-show the fans that you haven't disappeared." Alex explained. It sounded good and it made sense, but the girls had all really been looking forward to being home for the holidays to see their friends and family.

"Is it just a US tour?" Pixie asked and Alex smirked. Oh no-he had plans to take these girls all over the world.

"Nope. US, UK, Europe and Asia." The girls all looked at one another-they hadn't played Asia yet. This could be fun, or incredibly stressful.

"So when do we rehearse?" Char asked and Alex looked down at his computer.

"Tour rehearsals start day after tomorrow. Luxe, Alex G and I were thinking that you could get on stage with him and sing his song Remembering Sunday-so you need to get a copy of the music and start learning your part." Alex said and Luxe froze in her seat.

"Um okay." Was all Luxe could say. She had her phone in her pocket and as soon as they were dismissed she was going to get Andy on the phone. She needed him to calm her down-she needed him to tell her it would be okay.

"Well that's all girls-better go finish getting ready for your shoot." Alex said with a wave of his hand and Luxe was the first one to jump up.

Quickly she made her way to the back door of the stage, bumping open the backdoor with her hip as her numb fingers fumbled with her phone to try and dial Andy. She knew from his last text to her this morning that BVB would be doing an interview today before their Halloween show later that night-Luxe and the girls had almost completely forgotten what day it was. The phone rang, and rang and rang, but there was no answer. Huffing, Luxe tried his phone four more times before sliding down the side of the building in a puddle of tears.

This was her worst nightmare-something that had scared Luxe since the day she had decided to become sober. Going on tour with Andy had been easy-he kept her sane and kept her calm-but now she would be out there on the road without him and it was making her hyperventilate just thinking about it.

What would happen? The ATL guys were really nice, but they did like to party. Why did Alex constantly put them with bands that liked to party? BVB had been a party band, but they were slowly starting to calm down. MIW had been in to partying and now ATL-was Alex trying to destroy her?

That was it-Alex was trying to push Luxe over the edge. She cried as she sat there, her makeup running down her cheeks and Luxe knew the makeup girl was probably going to kill her, but she didn't care. Pulling out her phone one last time, Luxe opened it up to see that while Andy still hadn't called her back, she did have a text message from him. Sniffling loudly, Luxe looked down at her screen, but her fresh tears were making her vision blurry.

Andy: Hey, saw that you called. Sorry we're in an interview right now.
Luce: I figured. Andy I have bad news.
Andy: What is it? Are you okay?
Luce: No, no I'm not okay.
Andy: Are you hurt? What's going on?
Luce: I won't be home for Christmas...

Notes

What's going to happen to Luxe when she goes on tour without Andy?
Will she survive?
Or will her demons finally pull her under?

@Giacobra

I'm so glad you found this little gem. Sadly this was my last full story, but I do have a few other serial stories on this site which are different from this one, but just as well written. You can find all of them in my profile<3

So I can honestly say I didn't discover this story until recently. When I first started reading it I knew it would be one of my favorites from this site. I saw the sad ending coming but dear god I was still not prepared in any way. You wrote everything so genuinely and in a way that showed an amazing range of real and raw emotions. I may or may not have been crying profusely through the last chapters. This was a beautiful, bittersweet, and amazing story and I look forward to anything else you may ever decide to write. Thank you

I'm pretty sure I've done nothing but cry while reading these last few chapters. You do a wonderful job getting the reader emotionally involved in this story, and I'm really glad that I was able to read this wonderfully written piece. Thank you for all of the time and hard work that went into this story. It is definitely one of the best that I have read in a really long time.
