Won't Amount to Much
Was He Flirting?
The next day, I was in the process of moving around some boxes behind the merch tent when Andy showed up.
"Do you always dress like that?" he asked me with a smirk. I checked my outfit again. I had on a black Pierce the Veil t-shirt, white cut-off shorts, and green Converse on.
"Well, today I'm actually wearing Converse instead of Vans, and when I met you I was wearing jeans and combat boots."
"And one of the band's tanks if I remember correctly," he said with his beautiful smirk. Not that I had noticed.
"You remember that?" I asked, firstly, I barely remembered what I wore if it hadn't been for the picture I had kept.
"Strangely, yes. But my question was, is band merch all you own for shirts? Because if so we might have to take you shopping."
"No... I have other stuff I can change into if you want…" I said trailing off.
"No, Darlene, it's fine," he said with a light laugh, "Besides, why exactly do you care?" he asked, seeming rather concerned.
"I don't know… I guess I just don't want you to think I'm a weirdo."
"You shouldn't care that much. Just be yourself."
"Well that's kinda hard. For me, that is. Now, I kinda have to get back to work."
"Fair enough," Andy said as he walked away.
"Dar!" Mara whisper-yelled as she ran up behind me.
"What?" I snapped at her.
"Why do you push him away? He totally likes you, and I know you like him too, and he was asking you out, obviously."
"I do like him. It's just…" I trailed off. "Wait! He was asking me out?"
"Yes! God, you're so fucking blind. Too late. Now, you were saying just what? You have no excuse not to go out with him as far as I know."
"Well firstly, he broke up with Juliet not to long ago. And even if he did like me, it would be totally awkward if we decided to date while we were on tour, then broke up."
"Well, he does like you. And besides, that whole tour being awkward if we breakup thing isn't stopping me and Ashley."
"Wait. You and Ashley are dating?"
"I wouldn't call it dating… but we have decided to go out tonight."
"But what if it doesn't work out?"
"Then it doesn't work out. But Andy totally was flirting with you."
"How could you tell?" I ask, completely oblivious.
"Well, there was that smirk of his. It was just in the flirting zone. And he asked you out. Plus the fact he was willing to basically French kiss you last night, no thanks to me. Then there was the whole thing where he asked you if that's all you ever wore. One, he's been noticing. Two, he was obviously checking you out before he started talking to you, I saw. And three, he remembered what you wore to the concert months ago."
"That could just be him remembering that I was some obsessive freak in a band tank. I probably should have worn something else so he wouldn't have thought I was so weird."
"You looked fine. But you need to open up and flirt back."
"But what about the Juliet scandal?"
"He's probably over it. He broke up with her. Plus he is of the male gender. So you have no other excuse."
"Other than maybe I just don't want to go out with anyone right now."
"Not all guys are like-"
"Don't even say it." I say, my voice dripping with venom.
"I won't, but just give him a chance." After a moment of silence, Mara says, "I'm going to the tour bus to grab something real quick. You good here?"
With a nod from me, she jogs off. What she doesn't know is I'm not sure if I'm ready to date again, or if I ever will.
~*Mara's POV*~
I'm worried about Darlene. I know she went through a hard time with Blake, but I'm worried that if she doesn't open up with someone soon enough then she will end up an old cat lady. I understand that I have no idea what she went through, but I want to help in anyway I can.
I open up the door to the tour bus to see Andy pulling on a vest. I think he's getting ready for another interview.
"Andy! Can I ask you something?"
"You just did," he says with a smirk. A smirk quite different from the one he gave Darlene earlier.
"Follow up question, do you like Darlene in the way in which you might just quite possibly want to ask her out?"
"Why, does she want to ask me out or something?"
"Just answer the fucking question," I say with a roll of my eyes.
"Um, well I suppose so."
"I'll take that as a yes. In which case, you should ask her out. I'm 99 percent sure you already did, but she kinda likes you. But she's to scared to ask you. Plus she didn't understand you were asking her out earlier."
"Well, I guess I will ask her again later."
"Awesome. Now I have to get back to the tent. We'll be at the show later," I say, leaving before he can ask anything else.
