We Can Make Something Beautiful

You're Not Alone

“Thank you Salt Lake City! You were amazing!” Black Veil Brides hopped off stage and crowded around Acid and I at the merch tent, attracting the attention of many people.

“Mind if we help? We have nothing better to do right now,” Jake said, signing and handing t-shirts to girls who were forking over cash like it was an abundant source.

“I mean, you’re reeling in the money, I don’t care,” Acid said, her hands full of money. She stuffed the bills into the cashbox and kept accepting wads of green paper from eager fans.

I was stuck next to a sweaty Ashley and an even sweatier Andy. I moved around, trying not to touch them, seeing as how I was already covered in my own sweat from the sweltering heat of the summer.

A lot of girls gave Acid and I the “stay away from my man” look that I knew all too well. Andy stepped in and saved the situation many times before I had finally had enough.

“Alright.” I stood up on the table, with some help from Andy, and had a lot of attention. “Right now, if you think that Andy and I are a cute couple, thank you for supporting us. I’m not really sure what we are, but thank you for not being immature. For those of you who think I should slit my wrists and die, I hope you know, that while you guys are at home, making fun of me and my best friend, I’m hanging with Black Veil Brides. So, you can sit at home, on your little Tumblr blog, and say all the bad things you want about me. But just know, I have the advantage here. You don’t. Suck my dick you cowards.”

I hopped down and smiled at the customers who applauded and handed me more money, asking for bracelets and t-shirts. Andy patted my back with a warm smile, his long hair sticking to his damp face.

“That was impressive,” he said, signing a poster and handing it to a fan.

“I’m tired of being called a whore and a slut because people don’t like the fact that they can’t have you. It’s not right, no-one should be treated this way because they’re with their idol. Those girls should be happy for you, not bringing you down by telling you that you belong with a 12-year-old. Everyone deserves to be happy, even Andy Biersack.”

“Yeah, well, he’s obviously not happy with you,” I heard one girl say from behind her friend, and they started laughing.

Andy’s face got red, and he tapped them both on the shoulder. When he had their attention, he bent down and kissed me, hard.

“Does that look unhappy to you? Run along children,” he said, handing a t-shirt to both of them. They scowled and marched off towards another tent, flipping us off as they did so.

“Thanks Andy,” I said, breathless from the surprising kiss. I took the money from a little girl who looked to be about 4 or 5 years old and smiled at her. She was blonde, with green eyes, and had her hair into two braided ponytails. Her pink homemade Black Veil Brides shirt was hanging over her white shorts, and her white Nike’s were covered in dirt.

“Wow, you’re the youngest fan I’ve seen all day,” I told her, handing her a t-shirt. She smiled back and replied, “I love this band!”

“How would you like to meet the lead singer?” I asked, pointing to Andy, who had moved behind me.

Her eyes lit up and I smiled, tapping Andy on the shoulder. I gestured toward the little girl when I got his attention and he smiled, his blue eyes shining brightly in the sun.

“Wow, you’re a really young fan!” He said, lifting the girl up and over the table. He took her t-shirt and signed it for her, passing it to Ashley to sign, and so on.

“You’re Andy! You’re the one who sings! You saved my mommy! She tells me all the time about how you saved her! You’re a super hero!” She squeaked, her little voice laced with excitement. She lifted her arms, indicating that she wanted to be picked up. Andy obeyed and smiled at her.

“What’s your name sweetheart?” Andy asked, placing her on his hip.

“My name is-“

“Blair! Blair where are you baby!?” A concerned voice was calling out, what I assumed was, the little girl’s name and I saw a frantic young woman, almost too young to be a mother pushing people out of the way, looking for her.

“Mommy!” Blair said, her arm reaching out in her mother’s direction.

“Ma’am! Ma’am, I know where your daughter is!” I called out to the woman, and she rushed to the table to find her daughter enveloped in a big 6’3” man’s arms. She looked to Andy and her brown eyes widened when she realized who it was. The woman looked about 21 years old, her blonde hair pulled back in a tight ponytail.

“A-Andy, ohmygod, you found her!” She reached out and let Andy pass Blair over to her mother. The little girl blushed and buried her head in the crook of her mother’s neck. Her dirt covered white shoes swung at her mother’s side as the woman planted kisses all over her daughter’s face.

“Don’t you ever leave me like that again young lady.” Her mother said sternly. She looked up and smiled at Andy.

“Thank you so much for finding her,” she said.

“Well, actually, she found us, she paid for a t-shirt and we signed it for her. C! Where’s that shirt!?” Andy screamed, lifting a finger and walking around me to get to CC. I smiled at the woman, and politely asked her name.

“I’m Clarissa, and this is my daughter Blair, if she hasn’t told you already.”

Andy came back with a small white t-shirt, covered in black Sharpie ink and smiley faces. He handed it to Blair, who then blushed and giggled and buried her head deeper into her other’s neck.

“No offence Clarissa, but you look really young to have a daughter this old,” Ashley said, as he emerged from behind Acid. The crowd of crazy fan girls had died down enormously and now there was no-one at the table. Andy moved the tape away from the side of the table and let Clarissa and Blair pass through to the backside of the table. She gratefully took Jake’s chair and set Blair on her lap.

“To be honest Ash, I am.” Her voice was low and she looked to her daughter with a solemn expression. “I was raped at 17, and I decided to keep the baby. Why give up an innocent life, you know? I decided to own up and take responsibility for what was mine. It wasn’t my fault, but I had a child, and I needed to take care of her. So I named her after my great-grandmother and cared for her. I introduced her to the band that had saved my life during my pregnancy. And even as a tiny baby, she loved the sound of your voice, and your music.” Clarissa’s voice was barely above a whisper, and Acid nudged through the tiny crowd of people to hug her.

“I know exactly how scary that was. I was a rape baby. My birth mother was too immature to keep me. I went from foster home to foster home, looking for parents. I’m so glad you chose to keep Blair. She’s the most precious thing you have,” Acid said, tears streaming down her face.

“Oh honey, I’m so sorry,” Clarissa said, pulling away from the hug. She wiped Acid’s tears and set Blair down on the ground to embrace Acid in another hug.

Blair ran to Andy and jumped up and down with her arms up, begging him to pick her up again. He chuckled and picked up the tiny girl, placing her on his hip again. He smiled at her, his long hair blowing in the slight breeze and Blair smiled back, hugging Andy tightly around the neck. I laughed at them and grinned when Andy hugged Blair back, and started rubbing her back. I heard him say something along the lines of “Thank you for being a fan, Blair. But I’m no super hero.”

“Yes you are. Mommy says you’re her hero. Mommy says that you make her stop crying, and that you help her. You’re a super hero, just like Batman!” Blair raised her arms to enthuse her excitement and Andy couldn’t do anything more but smile and laugh at the little girl in his arms.
