We Can Make Something Beautiful

I Open My Lungs, Dear

After the concert, Acid and I packed up the merch tent and headed back to the bus. I hid in my bunk, dreading the moment Andy walked onto the bus. Acid came to check on me a couple times, and every time she did, I told her that I would talk to her about it later on tonight.

A couple minutes later, the band came storming onto the bus, screaming at each other about what a good show they played. They all stayed out in the lounge for about 30 minutes and then I heard Andy say “I’m gonna go check on our amazing merch girls.”

He walked back to the bunks and called Acid and I. I stayed in my bunk, pulling my blanket over my head. Acid emerged from her bunk and talked excitedly about where the next venue was. After about 5 minutes of conversing with Acid he asked where I was and she told him that I was “hiding in my bunk.”

“Of course she is. Excuse me Acid, I need to talk to her. Good job today kid.”

“Thanks Andy!”

My bunk curtain was swiped away and I slowly pulled my blanket off of my head, meeting a pair of blue eyes and a frown. He was bent over, and he straightened up, holding a hand out for me to take. I reluctantly let him lead me to his tall bunk and I looked down at my lap when he got himself situated.

“Andy, I-“

“Why Destiny? Why would you do something like this to yourself? Why couldn’t you just go get a tattoo or a piercing?”

“You called me “just the merch girl”…I mean, I’ve only been bunking with you for about a day, and I already don’t mean anything to you…” I looked up and saw his sad blue eyes staring down at mine. I looked back down to my lap and played with my fingers awkwardly until he replied.

“Destiny…I am so sorry. I didn’t mean it like that. Just, the guys, you know, they like to pry and I wasn’t really in the mood to deal with it. You mean a lot to me, hell you’re making half of my money at that tent. Things would be horrible without you, the other merch girls were just ungrateful and rude. Always asking for a raise and saying that the band was obnoxious and loud. I’m glad I hired you and Acid.”

“Andy, most of the girls that bought shirts from the tent said that you pitied me and that was the only reason you’re letting Acid and I bunk with you.” I looked up and met angry blue eyes.

“Come with me.” He grabbed my hand and helped me down from the bunk. I was dragged into the lounge where the rest of the band was, except CC, and stood in the middle of the room.

“What’s wrong?” Jinxx asked, looking at my scared expression.

“Okay, we all know that Acid and Blade had nowhere to go after our concert yesterday. Were we really going to let them be thrown out on the streets? Were we really going to let them suffer for wanting to see us perform?”

“Of course not, they needed a place to stay, why would you think that we would kick you to the streets?” Ashely asked, his voice laced with concern.

“Some girls were saying that you guys pitied us and that was the only reason you’re letting us bunk with you. You didn’t actually care about us.” A jolt from the bus knocked me to the ground as we started moving and Andy picked me up, laughing because I had just so gracefully decided to grab onto his pants as I fell, bringing them down with me. His Batman boxers shown in the light of the bus and he didn’t bother to pull his sagging pans up again.

“Nice Hello Kitty’s, Blade!” Ashley shouted over the laughter and I blushed a deep shade of pink.

“I thought you would like them,” I said, trying to hide my embarrassment.

“Well, despite what they think, we do care about you. You guys are unlike any fans we’ve ever seen. You guys are pretty cool, and we knew from the start that there was something special about you,” Jake said, adding a warm smile to the end of his statement.

“Thanks guys,” I said, smiling, and I looked up at Andy and saw that he was smiling too. He finally pulled his pants up and made sure to do so very, very slowly.

“Where are we going next?” I heard CC scream from his bunk.

“Denver, Colorado!” Ashley yelled back and he winked at me as he headed back to, what I assumed, Acid’s bunk. I looked to Andy and he kissed my cheek, leading me back to his bunk as well.

“Get it!”

“Get some Andy!”

“I was right, pay up.”

“Ugh, I am so sorry, they can be so annoying,” Andy said, helping me up to his bunk. I sat down and crossed my legs on the mattress, turning my body to face his direction. He climbed up and closed the curtain.

“So, what’s happening in Denver?” I asked, looking around, trying to find something to play with so I didn’t have to look in his eyes. I fumbled around with the blankets and found his phone, holding out for him to unlock.

“We have an off day and then a show the day after, then we go to Salt Lake City, Utah. I was hoping to go to a baseball game or something tomorrow,” He said, unlocking the device and handing it back to me.

“You must trust me,” I said as I looked through his games.

“I have nothing to hide,” he said, smirking and crossing his tattooed arms over his chest.

I scrolled through his Twitter and smiled at the cute tweets back and forth between himself and his ex-girlfriend, Scout Compton.

“What happened to you two?” I asked under my breath, hoping he didn’t hear it. He took the phone and read through the tweets, tearing up and throwing the phone to the side.

“She left me. She just got up and left. I was so heartbroken. Nothing anybody said or did was going to put my mind in another place. I wrote The Mortician’s Daughter for her. I wanted to get everything out. All the emotions, all the memories. We were so happy, and she just walked away…” He stopped to let some tears fall and he wiped them away.

“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you upset. Should I just go? You look like you need time to yourself,” I said, starting to slide out of the bunk.

He quickly grabbed my arm and pulled me back in, saying “Please stay.”

“I made you upset Andy.”

“You make me forget about her. You make me forget every horrible thing in the world, you make me forget that I flaws, you make me forget everything, except that there’s a beautiful girl sitting here right in front of me,” he said.

“I do that?” I asked breathlessly, astounded with how fast he spit all of that out.

“Yes, you do. Now, let’s change subjects, yeah?” He handed his phone back to me and I exited Twitter, and I went back to scrolling through his games when something caught my eye. He was staring at me through his hair and he had a goofy grin plastered on his face.

“Can I help you?” I asked, smiling at his entranced eyes. He perked up and shook his head, and I smiled and went back to scrolling.

“Dude you have like no good games on here, you need this one called Plague. It’s where you create a disease and you name it and whatever and you can wipe out the entire human population with it by using these weird DNA points and-“ I was cut off by a pair of lips on mine and I smiled, glad that he cut me off. I sounded like such a geek when I talked about games. He sat back against the wall and smirked at me through his raven black hair.

“Andy,” I said. “Why did you kiss me?”

“You’re cute when you talk about games. Keep going,” he said with the same goofy grin still on his face.

“Um, I like this game called Mortal Combat vs. DC Universe. You can play as Batman and stuff, and you fight all these people just like in Mortal Combat.”

“Hey, Des, I have that, wanna play it with me? I get dibbs on Batman,” he said as he slid out of the bunk and raced to the lounge to put the game in the console.

Des?

“Dude, she owned you!” CC yelled as I beat Andy for the 5th consecutive time in a row. My character, Kitana, was beating Batman’s ass.

“Blade, where did you learn to fight like this?” Ashley said, whisky in one hand and Acid in the other.

“Years and years of beating Acid’s ass,” I said, winking at Acid. She flipped me off and stole Ashley’s whisky, downing the drink.

“So what are you guys gonna do tomorrow?” Jake asked.

“I don’t about you, but Ashley and I are gonna hit up the clubs,” Acid said, snuggling into his chest and looking up at him with puppy dog eyes.

“Well, Andy and I were planning on seeing a baseball game,” I said, smiling at Andy.

“Is that a date, Patterson?” he questioned, playfully raising an eyebrow.

“I believe it is, Biersack.”
