"If you don't die within the next 10 seconds, I will pull the trigger and your best friend will be gone forever."

I held myself back, trying to figure out what to do.

"Kat, it's okay. Just let me go. He's just doing this to mess with your head."

An idea suddenly popped into my head. I walked over to the knife stuck in the wall and pulled it out, then I walked back over to them and held it to my neck.

"Is this what you want? Is this what you want to happen Brody?"

"No! Don't do it! Katherine, put it down!" Ashley choked.

"Why do you want me to die so badly? Why Brody?" I pushed the knife closer to my tender skin, almost piercing it.

He sighed. "Because you are the spark of a rebellion and you know it. With you gone, there won't be a rebellion, and that's what we want. We want everything to stay the way it is."

I drew the knife back away from me, but I didn't put it down.

"Well, I don't know what to tell you."

An evil smile appeared on his face. "Oh really? So you're still gonna rebel if I kill him and your boyfriend?" He cocked the gun and pressed it into Ashley's head.

Andy had taken care of the other officer and appeared behind me.

"Don't you even dare," I heard his deep voice cut through the silence.

"And what are you gonna do about it?" I saw Ashley wince as he struggled still to break free from Brody's grasp.

The anger inside of me was growing, like someone was pouring gasoline on a fire. I was about to throw the knife again if he didn't let go of Ashley.

"We will kill you right now," Andy replied with clenched teeth.

"Do it then," he said.

I had had enough of his bullshit. Without thinking, I hurled the knife at him. Ashley took this as the moment to break free, and he escaped Brody's hands and ran towards us. The knife sliced right through Brody's arm, cutting my hand as it traveled through the air. He screamed in pain and fell to the ground, stunned.

Andy grabbed my bleeding hand and put something on it to stop the bleeding. Apparently he was aware of this before I was.

"Thanks babe." He said nothing, and just kissed my cheek. I turned to Ashley.

"You okay?" I asked.

"Yeah I'm fine."

I pulled him into a hug with my free arm. He hugged me back, closing his eyes. Andy had managed to stop my hand from bleeding.

"I'll be right back," he said, and ran upstairs to get something.

"This isn't over yet, little emo girl," Brody gasped before collapsing.

I looked down at my hand and saw the narrow red line that ran all the way across my hand. Andy then came down with a roll of bandage tape. He unrolled some and wrapped it around my hand without saying a word.

"Thank you babe." He smiled.

"You're welcome." He leaned down to kiss me, and our lips melted into each other. We kissed for a minute, then pulled away, not wanting to make Ash feel left out.

I looked at the clock on the oven. 11:35.

"So who wants to go grab some lunch before we get to work?" Ashley suggested.

I looked over at Brody, unconscious on the floor. I had to call my dad to get him out of here. He would know what to do with him.

"Sure," Andy replied.

We all hopped on Ashley 's motorcycle and drove to our favorite pizza place downtown.

We walked in and sat down at a small booth. I couldn't believe we were here. I hadn't been here since before Sarah died. They hadn't changed at all, they still had the same granite tables, the same pictures and decorations up on the wall, and the same waiters and waitresses that were always here.

"Babe? You okay?"

My thoughts were interrupted by Andy's concerned voice.

"Yeah, I'm fine. I was just looking at everything. I haven't been here in so long."

A waiter came by and took our drink orders. He looked familiar, but I didn't remember seeing him before. Maybe I had. But where? He was tall, with dark hair and dark eyes. Wait, his eyes were actually 2 different colors. One was dark brown, the other was a lighter shade of hazel. Why did he look so familiar? Where had I seen him before?

As he brought us our drinks, it hit me. The other officer that had dragged Sarah away from me had 2 different color eyes! There wasn't very many people in the world that had 2 different color eyes, so it had to be him.

I whispered my discovery to the guys. They, too, looked over at the waiter, and he stared back. We all looked away quickly, so he didn't catch us staring. However, we were too slow. He came over to our table as fast as he could and stared deep into my eyes. I guess he recognized me.

"You," he said angrily. I sat up in my seat.

"I know who you are. You're that girl that tried to stop us from doing our job. The boss told us to put your friend in the gas chamber, and you interfered. We could've put you in there too. Let's just say you got lucky."

Now I was getting furious.

"You think that it's 'part of your job' to kill people for no reason?" He stared at me in confusion.

"Yeah. That's exactly what you did."

Andy and Ashley sat in silence, not wanting to be apart of our argument. I could tell that Andy was also getting frustrated.

"How exactly do you think that killing our people is going to help make things better in this world?"

I motioned Andy to move so I could get out of the booth and stand up.

He still stared at me, not sure of what to say. I cracked a smile.

"Why does your boss make you and your other officers do things like this?"

He remained silent, like he was being interrogated by the police and wouldn't confess.

"Are you gonna answer me?" I asked him. He had a sad look on his face now. He was giving in.

"I want you to tell me everything you know about your boss. Starting with his name," I demanded.

He gulped. Luckily, the restaurant was pretty empty, so we didn't cause too much of a scene. He looked around nervously, and opened his mouth slightly.

"H-his last name is Black. No one knows his first name. We never see him, we only take orders from him passed down to our captains. They say he's big, like really big, and some people are even scared of him. He's kind of like a dictator. We have to do what he says, or else he kills us. When citizens don't follow his rules, he sends us to execute them or put them in prison camps to eventually be executed."

I interrupted him after that last sentence.

"Wait wait wait, did you say to eventually be executed? So no matter how long we were there you would've killed us eventually anyway?"

He nodded.

"So you're saying that your boss is a dictator? What's his actual title?"

He stiffened. "He calls himself, and we are forced to call him, President Black."

"That's not what a President does. A president is supposed to rule a democratic country. Meaning that the people hold most of the power, not him."

The waiter just shrugged.

"Apparently he doesn't get that."

I sat silent for a moment in thought.

"So what is your name?" I asked the waiter. He said nothing, and just smirked.

"Excuse me, I asked you a question. What is your name?"

He still said nothing, and just smiled.

"Alright. You don't want to cooperate? We'll see how long that lasts." I walked out of the restaurant to Ashley's motorcycle, and reached down in the bag on the side of the bike. I grabbed a taser and my dagger.

When I walked back in the restaurant, I saw Ashley being pinned to the ground by the waiter and Andy's motionless body cast aside, knocked out cold.
