Knives & Pens

Chapter Fifteen

October 15th, 2013

The sun shined through Pandora’s bedroom that Monday morning at 7:29, her eyes opened barely, seeing the digital alarm clock on her nightstand turn to 7:30, suddenly the room was filled with a loud buzz from the alarm clock. Even though Pandora expected it, she jumped and turned the alarm clock off. Nothing better than a little heart attack in the morning. Pandora climbed out of the bed, she honestly did not want to go to school today, but she knew she had to. She walked into the bathroom and turned on her hair straighter, she applied some eyeliner and mascara real quick, then started to straighten her hair. As she stared in the mirror, she realized today was her birthday. She was now eighteen years old, she was honestly excited to be eighteen. She left the bathroom and grabbed some clothes from her closet, she grabbed her book bag and rushed out of the bedroom and out into the hallway. When she reached the staircase, she saw her mother at the end of the stairs talking to her father. Her mother looked up at Pandora as she walked down the staircase.
“Are you walking to school or you want me to drive you?” Gail asked Pandora.
“I’ll walk.” Pandora replied, she approached the door, and slowly opened it. Waiting to hear her mother tell her happy birthday, before she stepped outside, Gail said her name.
“Yeah?” Pandora asked, looking back at Gail.
“Remember I’m working late tonight, so your going to have to cook dinner.” Gail told her, Pandora nodded and stepped outside into the cool October air.
She forgot my birthday. Why am I not surprise? Pandora thought sadly, but tried to ignore it. She started to walk down the sidewalk, to school. Or what she called, Hell..

Pandora entered the school and immediately heard people whispering about her, she wondered if they ever had anything better else to do but pick on her. She approached her locker and saw the papers taped on her locker like every other day, she ripped them all off, without reading them and threw them into the trash bin.
“Aw, don’t you like my gifts, Dora?” Liam asked beside her, he had his crew with him. Pandora looked at him.
“Go to hell Liam.” She mumbled and tried to open her locker, but Liam slammed her locker shut.
“Not so fast Dora. So, Sierra told me it’s your birthday today.” Liam said, Pandora looked at him.
“Why do you care?” Pandora asked him, getting a little bit scared.
“Oh, I don’t. I just thought I’d say I know.” Liam said, Pandora raised her eyebrows in confusion but decided not to ask. She opened her locker again and grabbed the book she needed for her class, when she heard her nickname being called behind her. She turned and Sierra slammed a cake into her face, icing went all over her face and hair and clothes.
“Happy birthday!! You damn emo, freak.” Liam cheered, Sierra pulled the cake back and Pandora cleared the icing out of her eyes with her hands. Everyone started to laugh and Pandora felt immediately embarrassed, she took off running towards the bathroom. Luckily the bathroom was empty, she got off as much icing as she could, then hid in a stall and cried. When she heard the bell ring, she got up and wiped the tears away and headed towards the classroom..

The rest of the day was horrible like every other day, she was tripped, laughed at, made fun of, picked on, thrown. She was glad when school ended, but as she was walking down the sidewalk her sister joined beside her. Pandora sighed, hoping Sierra would walk in front of her and leave her behind, but she never did.
“Why are you walking with me?” Pandora asked Sierra, Sierra shrugged.
“Because I can, and it’s your birthday!” Sierra replied, Pandora sighed.
“Like you care Sierra, tell me the real reason.”
“Fine, someone is in a mood today. Liam has to work, so he can’t drive me. And my other friends are busy, so I’m stuck walking with you.” Sierra said, sounding angry about it. Pandora rolled her eyes and kept on walking.
“Well, sorry.” Pandora snapped.
“What are you fixing for dinner?” Sierra asked, Pandora thought for a moment, but didn’t answer. Sierra stopped and stopped Pandora by grabbing her wrist tightly, Pandora winced and jerked her hand away and looked at Sierra. “Why didn’t you answer me?”
“Because I don’t know what we’re having for dinner and I don’t have to answer you if I don’t want to!” Pandora hissed, Sierra slapped Pandora across the cheek, snapping her head to one side.
“Stop yelling at me Dora!” Sierra hissed and kept on walking, Pandora broke there. She was done with all of this, done with the bullying, done with her sister and her parents. They didn’t even acknowledge her birthday, she started to walk away from her sister to the other side of the street. Sierra noticed and stopped, calling her nickname, but Pandora kept on walking.
She eventually got to her house, she ran up the porch steps and opened the door. She slammed the door shut and heard her drunk father calling her name from the living room, Pandora looked in the living room and saw her father laying on the couch.
“What?” Pandora asked.
“Get in the kitchen and fix me something to eat now!”
Pandora sighed, and acted as if she was heading towards the kitchen. But when she saw he closed his eyes, she headed upstairs. Pandora closed her bedroom door sadly, she looked at her bedroom and then at her closet. She rushed over towards the closet and opened the door, she grabbed another book bag. Which she uses to pack with. She grabbed some clothes, her Ipod, her phone, charger, toothbrush, toothpaste, hair straighter, basically everything she needed. She sat down at her desk and grabbed a pen and a sticky pad and started to write.

Dear, whoever is reading this.
Thanks for nothing, Don’t bother looking for me, or trying to get me to come back. I’m done here. Bye.

She thought for a few minutes, then just threw the paper into the trash bin. She turned out the lights and climbed out the window, she got on the roof and found a way down, using the same way Andy got off. When she got to her feet she took off walking, she didn’t know where she was going, but all she knew was that she was done here. Done with the name calling, done with her parents, done with her sister, done with everything that was scarring her. She didn’t think about turning back, she didn’t think about them worrying, she didn’t think about any of that. She kept on walking, walking to wherever she was walking to…
