The Family Man

As I looked down at my two children I couldn’t help but laugh. We were getting ready for the Star Trek convention and they both insisted on dressing up. I had introduced them to the original series and they were both hooked. Jack had insisted on dressing up as Spock; given his love of science that wasn’t much of a surprise. He even had little Vulcan ears. Samantha was a little more laid back in a simple red Star Trek dress. I was dressed in my blue dress and we were all ready to go.
“Is the landing party ready?” Ashley asked, walking into the front hall.
I smiled when I saw him. Apparently he had watched the series while finishing up the tour. He decided to dress up as whom else? Captain James Kirk.
“Yes, we’re ready.” I grabbed the twins’ hands and walked them out to the car.
“So, who are you most excited to see Jack?” Ashley asked.
“I’m gonna see Spock with Mommy!” He replied excitedly.
Ashley chuckled. “What about you Samantha?”
“I wanna see Uhura.” She said.
“Any interest in guests from TNG?” I asked.
“Data!” They both squealed.
Ashley gave me a confused look.
I laughed. “He’s on the other series I told you about. He’s an android.”
“Ah.”

After we got into the convention we walked around for a little while looking at all the vendors that were set up. We got the kids a few t-shirts and they each got a small model of the Enterprise to add to their toy collection.
“Jack, do you want to go see Spock now?” I asked.
Yes!” He started dragging me towards the celebrity area.
“We’ll wait over here for you.” Ashley said. He picked up Samantha and waited at the back of the crowd of people.
As we were waiting in line I pulled out the first season of Star Trek, which is what we were getting signed. “Do you want to give it to him?” I asked.
Jack shook his head, playing with his hands. I could tell he was a little nervous.
Suddenly we were up at the front of the line. Put the box on the table to get signed and shook his hand.
“Hello.” He said.
“Hi, I’m Belle and this is my son Jack.”
“Hello Jack.” He reached out to shake Jack’s hand. “Are you training to be a science officer?” He said, looking over Jack’s costume.
“Yup! I love science!” Jack replied.
“Good. Here you go.” He handed the box back to me. “Live Long and Prosper.” He did the Vulcan hand gesture.
Jack and I both mimicked it and replied together. “Peace and Long Life.” I took Jack’s hand and went back to find Ashley and Samantha.
“Belle, over here!” Ashley and Belle were just walking away from Nichelle Nichols’ table.
“That was soo cool!” Samantha was saying. “She’s really nice.”
I smiled. “That’s good to hear. Should we go say hi to Data now?” I asked.
“Yes!” They both screamed.
“Well all right then.” We walked to the other end of the tables to find Brent Spiner. We got in line and once we reached the front both of my children took charge. They shook his hand and told him how much they loved Data and how cool he was.
“So young and such big Star Trek fans. Who introduced you?” He asked.
“Our Mommy!” They said in unison.
At that point I stepped up and shook his hand. “Very nice to meet you Mom.” He said.
I laughed. “Nice to meet you too.”
Jack got a picture signed and then we went to find Ashley. As we were walking I noticed both of the kids yawning.
“I think it’s time to go home.”
“No!” They said.
“We can come back and do more things tomorrow.” I promised.
They both smiled at that and once we found Ashley we headed home with two very sleepy children in the back of the car.
“Thank you so much for this.” I said to Ashley, giving him a kiss.
“Your welcome Belle. Happy Birthday.”

Sorry for not updating in forever. School + life + writer's block=blah. Anyway, I should be able to write more now, so please comment.
