Fallen Angels

As I arrived at the fourth level, I was blinded. It was so bright and very warm. I stepped into the vastness that was the fourth level and I was stunned. Thousands of people were entrapped in a pit of melting gold. Their screams were muffled as their mouths filled with the precious substance. Towering way over them was a man in a golden throne. He laughed as he threw people off his platform and into the pit. He was definitely the ruler of this place.

I decided it would be best to avoid him and try and find the exit as quickly as I could. I searched the entire level but found nothing. I looked back to the throne but it was empty. I let out a sigh. Something was about to happen and sure enough just as I turned to look for the ruler, my name echoed off the walls.

“How nice of you to join us Andrew. I wasn’t sure I would get the pleasure of meeting you. I was sure you would fall to lust. However it seems you have a stronger will than I thought. No matter. You will become mine here.” Then I felt a gust of hot wind and the man was right in front of me.

He had an exquisite gold crown with jewels that would make you blind just by looking at it. His coat had gold flakes in it and it was made of real animal fur. When he smiled he showed his golden and jewel encrusted teeth. I wasn’t even sure how he talked honestly.

“Surrender now and I might go easy on you.” He said.
“Never.” I spat at him. “I have to get my wife back.”
“Oh what a pity. Yes indeed. However she is serving her purpose. You belong here Andrew.” Just as he said it, hundreds of gold men attacked. I flew to the air, just out of reach. The man crossed his arms and glared at me.

“We could rule this level together. You could be a kind with me.” The man bribed.
“You are no king.” I told the man, hoping to get under his skin.
“I once was. I lived in a palace, I had all the riches and women I wanted but it was never enough. So I did what all smart men do, I made a deal with the devil. He granted my wish, everything I touched turned to gold. Oh what I time it was to be alive. I had the world at my fingertips. Then when my time came, I gladly left. You see I was offered a position to rule over this level. Lucifer told me I was a man after his own heart. Stay with me Andrew. We could make this place rich with gold.” The man I now knew as King Midas said.
“You are a legend, a myth.” I said, a bit bewildered.
“Am I? You are looking at me. I lived long ago. They turned me into a myth because they didn’t want to believe that I had been real. My power scared them. Enough of this idle chat. Join me or die!” The king yelled.

The golden men leaped after me and I flew higher. I watched as they started to climb each other to reach me. I slashed at a few of them but my sword bounced harmlessly off of their golden bodies. I flew frantically, dodging their fingers. I continued to look for the exit but the only place I hadn’t checked was the king’s throne. As I flew towards it, I felt a rush of hot air and the king was back on his platform.

“You are never going to make it out of here. You belong to me!” The man laughed. It was so loud it shook the whole room.

I continued to dodge as I thought of a plan. I knew I needed the men off of me. However I couldn’t attack them. As I flew closer to the king’s platform I noticed something. None of the men could get near it. A few were trying to but it seemed like a barrier was blocking them. Then I saw what Midas had up there. He had piles of jewels. I had an idea. I flew close to the platform and summoned my powers. I called forth a powerful gust of wind. I sent it right a pile of jewels. It was knocked off the platform and onto the ground. Instantly the men forgot about me and went after the jewels. Midas let out a scream and went after his jewels. I knocked all the piles of his precious treasure off his platform. He glared at me.

“You can never leave. The only way out is at the bottom of the pit. You would die before you made it through.” He hissed. Then he turned from me and tried to figure out how to get his treasure back.

I glanced at the pit. Molten gold stared back at me. It was the only place I hadn’t checked. Maybe the king was lying but it was the only lead I had. I circled the pit contemplating my options. Down was the only way to go but I knew as soon as I touched it I would surely die.

I took a deep breath and concentrated on the elements around me. There was moisture in the air but it was faint. It was going to have to do. I called it to me and formed a protective bubble around me. I prayed it would hold and I dove into the gold. I forced myself through the burning liquid and to the bottom. Each breath I took forced the bubble to grow tighter around me. I didn’t have much longer before It was non existent. I held my breath and frantically searched for the door. I took small breaths when I felt like my chest was going to erupt. I was just about out of bubble when I saw a handle. I reached out for it and pulled. It wouldn’t budge. I pulled and pulled but nothing was happening. My chest was tight and black spots started swimming before my eyes. I took a breath and the bubble burst. I felt the searing hot liquid close in around me just as the door under my fingers burst open. I was sucked through and darkness overtook me.

Well here is the fourth level. I was planning on doing the fourth and fifth together but I had to call in some help for it so it will come next time.

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter. Andy is getting closer and closer to his wife and Lucifer. How do you think Anger will go?
