We Don't Belong

I sat alone at the lunch table in the cafeteria. My morning had been pretty tough. It just seemed like nobody even cared that I was there. I had expected at least one person to introduce themselves.. But no. Nobody cared enough. I continued eating my lunch in silence when all of a sudden I could overhear some weird girl talking to what seemed to be her boyfriend. Then another kinda scary looking guy came over to them. He was dressed in all black and had tattoos and piercings everywhere. But one thing I couldn't help but notice was his eyes. They were the most brilliant blue I'd ever seen. He walked away to get lunch and told them he would catch up with them in a second. The girl pulled her boyfriend to the side and said, "Come on Brett.. she is all alone," the girl said. "Babe she is the total opposite of us. I mean look at her. She is wearing preppy schoolgirl clothes. And look at us.... all black," he replied. " She has nobody to talk to, come on!" She dragged her boyfriend to the empty table where I was sitting and introduced herself and her boyfriend before sitting down. "Hey. You're new right?" "Uh. Yeah. I just moved here from LA. " "I've never been there! I'm Maxy by the way and this is my boyfriend Brett. " "Hey. I'm Charlotte. Nice to meet you. " I was quite suprised that people like this would talk to me. I mean they are wearing all black and I have a dress and sweater on. Oh well. At least it was someone. We talked and this girl actually seemed like a good friend. She really knew how to help me feel comfortable. All of a sudden Brett said, "Maxy babe you wanna go see Escape the Fate this weekend?" "Are you kidding me!? YES BABE!" "Alright. Let's ask Andy if he wants to come too," Brett said. All of a sudden I felt a strangely close presence sitting next to me. I turned my head and sure enough it was that creepy guy. I slowly scooted my chair over towards Maxy. She smirked and looked at her friend. Then he said "Ask me what?" "We were gonna ask you if you wanted to come to see Escape the Fate this weekend." "Uh sure. That sounds cool," he said. I suddenly broke in," wait a second... Who is Escape the Fate?" Andy looked at Maxy like why the fuck are we sitting here. "I'm not suprised you don't know who they are. You definitely don't seem like you would listen to them. You're too fucking preppy." "ANDY!" Maxy screamed. "Be nice. She's cool. Give her a chance. " "Well she clearly doesn't know what good music is," Andy said rudely. Offended, I said," I listen to Taylor Swift literally 24/7! She is my idol and I love her." Andy said," who the fuck is Taylor Swift?" "Wow Andy," Brett said. "Even I know who she is." "Sorry but I don't listen to that crap. " Maxy yelled at Andy once again and defended me. Which actually made me kinda happy that she cared that much. "So anyway," Maxy said, " would you maybe wanna hang out on Friday? I can show you around and stuff and you can just stay at my house. " "Um sure. I will have to check with my mom, but I'm sure she will be fine with it." "Maybe you can play her some actual music while she's there Maxy," Andy said. "We'll see." I was really happy that she wanted to hang out. It seemed like she was my only friend.. Well besides Brett and I guess Andy? It was nice to finally have somebody to talk to. "What class do you have next Charlotte?" "Oh I have Chemistry.. I'm not looking forward to it." "Oh haha I have earth science. Those classes are right next to each other. I'll walk with you. " "Thank you. I've been alone all day. " I glanced at the clock and the bell was about to ring. Maxy told Brett she was going to walk with me instead and said she would see him later. She went over to him and sweetly kissed him on the cheek. Maxy and I started walking towards the science hall. She pointed out my class and said she would meet me at the end of the day. She told me to meet her in the parking lot after school. I went to chemistry and then Spanish class at the end of the day. The bell rang and I went outside to the parking lot to find Maxy. It turns out her car was parked right next to mine. "Hey Charlotte! How was the rest of your day?" "Hey Maxy! It was pretty good, except the fact that it was boring as hell but oh well." "Well Brett, Andy, and I are going to go hang out at the mall for a while. Wanna come?" "Um sure. Are you sure Andy doesn't mind?" "He will be fine. Don't mind him. He is just very judgmental. Once he gets to know you he will lighten up." "I'll follow you guys, since I don't really know my way around yet." "Okay. Sounds good. Let's wait for Andy." I got in my car and sat there waiting for Andy to come and get in Maxy's car. After 10 minutes he came strolling out and slowly got in her car. She pulled out and I followed. We got to the mall and started to walk around. Maxy suggested that Andy and Brett walk around while she and I shop. We told them we would meet them back at Urban Outfitters at 5. Maxy and I walked around and did some shopping. We also started to get to know each other better. It was probably the most fun I've had since we left LA. We met the guys at Urban Outfitters and decided to eat dinner before going home. Andy, rolling his eyes, said," has she become any less preppy yet?" "God damnit Andy," Maxy said. "Let's go to the food court and get some pizza or something. I'm starving," Brett said. We walked to the food court. I was forced to talk to Andy because Maxy and Brett walked ahead holding hands. To make it a little less awkward, I said,"so what do you do for fun?" "I'm the lead singer of the band, Black Veil Brides, I hang out with Maxy and Brett, and I pretty much always have my music on. How about you?" "I'm the same way with my music. I can't go anywhere without headphones. I sing too. I've been singing since I was a little girl. I've always wanted to be in a band or become famous for my voice. " "Sounds pretty cool. You will have to sing for me some time." "We'll see." We got to the food court and ordered our pizza and sat down. We sat at a circular table so I was between Maxy and Andy. We were sitting there and eating when all of a sudden, Andy said," you know Charlotte, you're really not that bad. I expected you to be a total stuck up bitch.. No offense. Normally people like you are obnoxious." "Well you guys aren't too bad yourselves. To be honest, at first I thought you guys were scary, and you were the last people that would want to talk to me." Then Maxy said, " well we saw you sitting alone and decided to introduce ourselves." "Well I'm glad you did because you guys are the only friends I have." We all just sat there for a while and got to know each other and joked around. I checked my phone and it was already 7. I told them that I needed to head home because my mom would be worried and that I would see them tomorrow. I went out to the car and drove home. My mom gave me a look and said, "where have you been?" "I was hanging out at the mall with my new friends Maxy, Andy, and Brett." "See honey, I told you that you would make new friends. How was your day?" "Well the beginning was tough but once I met some new friends at lunch, it got better." "I'm glad sweetie. Why don't you go work on your homework so you can be ready for tomorrow." "Okay mom. Goodnight." "Love you sweetie." "Love you."
