Turn Out The Lights

The Call and The Offer That Can't Be Refused (Part 1.)

Abigail’s POV

It’s been days since Lisbeth’s grandparents came to town. They seemed to be enjoying the sites and new attractions, their last visit was nearly eighty years ago during the Great Depression so everything was so blingy and shiny to them. I’m just glad that Drac finally got the memo that the boys weren’t food. It was nearly three in the afternoon and I lay on the couch, skimming through my spell book for spells to practice on.
“What’re you doing?” I heard a voice behind me; I dropped my book abruptly,
“Oh Jake, don’t scare me like that,” I chuckled catching my chest,
“Sorry,” he smiled, “but what are you doing?” he emphasized the question once more,
“I’m just going over my spell book,” I said picking it back up,
“What’s in it, ‘eye of frog and wart of a hog’?” he laughed,
“Not even remotely close,” I chuckled, “just a lot of herbs,”
“So, what’s your story?” he got serious for a moment,
“What story?”
“C’mon, Abby,” he began, “Avira’s a ghost and Lisbeth’s the granddaughter of Dracula, what about you?” I felt a nob in my throat as I tried to find the words to speak,
“Have you ever heard of Abigail Williams?”
“The 1700’s witch?” he asked, “yeah,”
“She’s my great-great-great-great grandmother,”
“Abigail Williams had a child?” he asked, “wasn’t it said that she never had children?”
“Yes, but…a year before she was amongst those accused, she got pregnant out of wedlock; she remained hidden in the woods miles outside of Salem, after that…the baby was taken care of by a close friend and her husband, they were lucky to have survived the trials,”
“That’s insane,” he said rubbing the temples of his head,
“I know, my mother and grandmother are still around…they’ve given up magic though,”
“Why?” he asked, “having magical powers seems like it’d be awesome!”
“It’s not all it’s cracked up to be,” I said harshly, slamming my book shut.
“I’m sorry if I touched a nerve,” he said solemnly,
“It’s fine,”
“I guess I’ll get out of your hair,” he said standing up,
“No it’s fine…I didn’t mean to snap at you, I do enjoy company,” I smiled half-heartedly,
“Ok, well I was going to go light up your grill and maybe start a barbeque, would you like to help?”
“That sounds amazing,” I smiled,
“Great, ‘cause I make some mean ribs!”
I grabbed, well I actually summoned, everything from the freezer and instantly thawed it. Jake was busy at work making his so called, “Famous Spicy Cowboy Marinade,”
“Well,” he began, “everything’s just got to sit and marinade for a while so in the meantime, where is everyone?”
“I’m not sure; last I checked they were in the basement,” my heart suddenly shrank,
“You don’t think,” he began,
“No! They know better,” I chuckled awkwardly,
“Oh God,” I inhaled as I busted through basement door and ran down the stairs. Jake followed close behind me as we reached the dark basement, no light shown but from the large TV we had just around the corner suddenly a shadow appeared getting ready to attack, chorus of screams came about and it ended just as I turned on the lights,
“Abigail!” Drac shouted, “what are you doing?”
“Yeah, we were just getting to the best part,” Sammi laughed,
“Best part?” Jake asked,
“Yeah,” Andy smiled, “Drac and Ilona brought some home movies and they’re really neat,”
“Oh thank God,” I sighed,
“Don’t worry, they’re not dinner just yet,” laughed Lisbeth.
“Well,” I said, “we’ll call you up when dinner is done,”
“OK!” chorused everyone,
I came back up and plopped myself on the couch. “Some scare, huh?” asked Jake sitting next to me, “yeah,” I sighed,
“You ok?”
“Yeah,” I lied,
“Abigail,” he said sitting on his knees facing me, “you know I have a magical power too,”
“Huh?” I asked,
“Yeah, my power is I can tell when somebody is lying,” he chuckled,
“I’m fine,” I blushed,
“Abigail,” he said getting in closer,
“I’m just stressed about this whole thing…the Francesco gang…the possibility of death,”
“You’re not going to die,” he assured me. He placed his hand on top of mine and smiled softly, “I promise,”
“Jake,” I said softly,
“What babydoll?” he said smiling, I tried so hard not to blush.
“Thank you, and thanks to everyone else for…not being so judgmental about us…”
“As long as you’re not killing anybody, who am I to judge?” I smiled,
“Abigail,” Jake said,
“Yes?”
“I have to be honest,” he sighed, “I didn’t think I would ever meet a witch, like ever…but I never thought that if I did, I’d meet someone as beautiful as you are,”
“Jake,” I blushed as I sat up,
“Yes?” he said leaning in closer,
“I think this is the part where you kiss me,” he whispered,
“Gladly,” he locked his lips on mine and held me closely,
“How’s dinner coming?” asked a voice, we jumped and saw all the guys and Lisbeth and Avira staring at us, “It’s not quite done, still marinating” I laughed.
“Well hop to it!” CC commanded,
“I can’t make the meat absorb the juices any faster!” I replied,
“That’s what he said,” said Ashley,
“Dude,” Andy sighed, “just…no…”
“Why are we all standing around?” Ilona asked,
“Oh, no reason,” everyone laughed.
Suddenly the phone rang, “I’ll get it,” Lisbeth said, everybody else gathered around the living room with the TV on just chatting.
“Abigail,” Lisbeth said kind of quietly, “it’s for you,”
“Who is it?” I asked,
Lisbeth didn’t say, she just handed me the phone. She stood close to me as I held the receiver to my face, “Hello?”
“Nice to hear from you Abigail,” said a deep voice,
“I wish I could say the same, Victor,”
“Don’t be like that,” he chuckled,
“What do you want?” I growled,
“We have a case for you,”
“I told you, Vic, I’m done with the behavior analysis unit,”
“Oh but on the contraire, you’re still under contract till the end of the year,”
“How?” I asked,
“We just put you under leave of absence after the incident you had in sector five,”
“Vic, you can’t do this,”
“I am your boss, so I can and I’m telling you, we need your help on this case,”
“Vic,” I sighed,
“Abigail, you’re the best agent I have, just solve this case for us and we’ll suspend the rest of your contract,”
“You promise?”
“Cross my heart,”
“Ok,” I sighed,
“Great, so, meet me for coffee tomorrow at noon and we’ll discuss the case?”
“Fine,”
“See you then,”
“Bye,” I slammed the receiver and I turned around to join the others, only to find Lisbeth blocking my way.
“What did he want?” she asked sternly.
“Nothing,” I lied.
