Turn Out The Lights

Recovery and a Visit from Grandpa Drac

Lisbeth’s POV

My eyes fluttered open to see the velvet dark red lining of my coffin. The lid was slightly cracked with a dim light peering through. I pushed the lid off and crawled out with the lid hitting the floor with a bang. My chest was throbbing and my throat burned for something to drink. I crept down the stairs, wondering everybody was. I poked my head in the window and I could see they were outback enjoying the pool. I grabbed a pouch of O Negative from the fridge and heated it up in a cup before joining the others.
“Glad to see you’re better,” Avira smiled,
“Almost, just let me enjoy my cup,” I took a sip of the warm liquid,
“So, how come you can come out in the sun and not get burned?” CC asked,
“This amulet,” I said pointing to the silver chain around my neck, “it’s been in the family for centuries, as long as I have it on during the day, I won’t burst into flames,”
“Neat!” Andy exclaimed,
“I suppose…you guys know everything, right?” I asked, they nodded slowly and I rubbed the back of my neck, “this is awkward,”
“No, not really, I mean we meet mythical creatures all the time on and are hunted by ravenous wolves on a daily basis,” Jinxx joked sarcastically.
“Well, now that you guys know, our only problem is…what we can do to stop Gabriel and his pack before they kill us?” replied Abigail tipping up her sunhat,
“What can we do? The only solution would be a fight to the death,” I answered, “and I don’t want it to come to that,”
“I’m glad to hear you say that,” Abigail smiled, “because it just so happens that I made a phone call while you were out cold,”
“A phone call, to whom?” I said sipping my cup,
“Oh Lisbeth, where is my little batling?” boomed a deep voice with a thick accent, I spit my blood all over the ground and began coughing hysterically I was able to find my voice,
“You called Papa?!” I shrieked,
“Papa?” asked Ashley, confused.
“Lisbeth’s grandfather,” Avira replied,
“Why did you call Papa?” I asked Abigail, grabbing her by her swimsuits straps,
“You were out for almost two days, we needed somebody with a vast expansion of knowledge on this subject at hand, I thought Drac would be an excellent help,”
“So you called my nearly six-hundred year old grandfather and had him come all the way from Romania?”
“Basically,” she shrugged,
“Lisbeth, darling you have too many rooms, it’s like a labyrinth in that house,” I turned to find a tall man with pale skin in a black suit with a matching cape, carrying a cane in his hand, few wrinkles on his face, dark slicked-back hair (slightly grey at the roots) and deep gold eyes that hid behind black sunglasses.
“Papa!” I rejoiced running to his arms to hug him,
“You get stronger each time I see you,” he smiled, “Abigail, Avira!” he said loudly, arms swinging frantically in enthusiasm
“Always a pleasure to see you lovely ladies,” he bowed slightly, kissing the backs of their hands, “and always a pleasure seeing you as well, Drac,” Abigail smiled.
“And,” he began, the cheery tone in his voice fading slowly, “this must be dinner,” he grinned,
“No, Papa! This is not dinner, these are friends,”
“Friends?” he gawked, “befriending humans are we now?”
“Papa,” I sighed,
“Have you gone soft?”
“No!”
“Lisbeth, humans, really?” he shouted, rolling his eyes,
“Oh Drac, come off will you!” shouted a soft, feminine voice with a relatively thick accent, I turned to see a small woman, long black hair, white streak of hair down the front, ruby red lips and sparkling blue eyes and bleached white skin that hid under a large black sunhat,
“Mama!” I smiled running into her arms,
“My little vampling, you’re getting too big for your grandma,” she cooed hugging me tightly,
“Ilona, I told you to stay in the car,”
“And what? Bake like a blood sausage?”
“I think she means potato,” said Jake whispering to the others, Mama whipped her head at the boys,
“No she means blood sausage,” I said awkwardly,
“Your little witch friend called us and said it was urgent, what’s the matter?” Mama said grabbing my face,
“I’ll tell you if you can let go of my face,” I said through my squished face; she released me and I turned to everyone, “everybody, inside; so we can all talk,”

Andy’s POV

We all sat and listened to Lisbeth explain the situation to her grandparents. I was still in shock that Dracula himself was Lisbeth’s grandfather.
“I see,” Drac nodded, “well, given the situation as a whole the Francesco brothers did violate a law first; they crossed into your territory and therefore must be held accountable,”
I smiled, it sounded like we could be able to go home after all!
“So, they can’t harm Abigail?”
“Well,” sighed Drac, “technically you both broke ancient laws; given the severity of this situation, negotiation may not be an option, considering you, Lisbeth Helsing, killed one of the brothers,”
I didn’t like the sound of this,
“But Papa, you’re on the royal council, can’t you have this pardoned?” Lisbeth’s eyes grew teary,
“It’s not that simple,” he said rubbing under his eyes,
“Papa,” she whimpered,
“Oh Lisbeth, don’t do that,”
“Papa,” she whaled, into his arms,
“Don’t cry my little batling,” he said holding her, “Papa will figure something,” he assured her,
“The only other way I can think of,” began Lisbeth’s grandma, “is if you and the remaining brother appear before the council and are subjected to a hearing,”
“But that wouldn’t be fair,” said Drac, “given that Lisbeth is my granddaughter, they would assume her to have a more fair advantage at winning,”
“Isn’t it your job to be unbiased, Papa?” Lisbeth interjected,
Drac sighed, “I’ll head back to the council and submit the request for a court date, but for now…I came all this way so I might as well enjoy a vacation with my family,” he smiled hugging his wife and Lisbeth close.
“You’re more than welcome to stay here,” Abigail smiled, “we have spare coffins in the guest room,”
“Sounds lovely,”
“Boys,” Lisbeth smiled, “would be so kind as to get my grandparent’s luggage?”
“Sure,” I smiled. As I stood up, I couldn’t help but feel Lisbeth’s grandpa giving me…an eye.
The kind of eye that warns you to sleep with one eye open; boy was this going to be a pleasant stay.
