The Ladies Man

Another six weeks had past and things had gone back to a level of normalcy between Ashley and me. The morning sickness had continued, but hopefully it would be over soon. I couldn’t stand it. I was starting to show a little, just a slight curve of my stomach. Today Ashley and I were going in for the twelve-week ultrasound.
“Are you ready?” Ashley asked as we walked out to the car.
“Yes, I’m so excited! I can’t wait to really see the baby.” I said. We had gone in at eight weeks, but at that point you couldn’t really see the baby, just a small oval type shape. At least, that’s what it looked like to me.
Ashley chuckled. “You know, we have seen it before.”
“Don’t call the baby ‘it’. And not really, this time it will actually look like a tiny human being.”
“Let’s get going then. We don’t want to be late.”

We arrived at the hospital and checked in. a short while later, a nurse came out and told us that the doctor was ready for us. I got into the hospital gown and waited for the doctor to come in.
“Hello Belle, Ashley.” The doctor said as she came in.
“Hello Dr. Matthews.” Ashley said.
“Excited?” She asked.
“Definitely.” I replied.
“Now, we can check it in the next couple of weeks, so I have to ask. Do you want to know the gender of your baby?” She asked.
I looked at Ashley. We had discussed this earlier. “No, we don’t.” We wanted it to be a surprise. We didn’t want to be biased about the baby’s gender. I didn’t believe in the ‘pink is for girls, blue is for boys’ debate.
“All right then.” She covered my stomach in the cold gel and started to wave the wand over it. After a few moments of moving it around, she found the baby. “There’s your baby.” She turned the screen towards us.
“Oh my God.” I said. I could actually see our baby. A tiny head, the spine, I could even make out tiny arms and legs.
“Would you like a printout?” Dr. Matthews asked.
“Yes please.” I replied.
She instantly printed out a picture and handed it to me. “There, you’re all done for today. Unless there are any problems I’ll see you in four weeks.”
“Thank you Dr. Matthews.” Ashley said.
“You’re welcome.” She said as she left.
I quickly got dressed and we headed home.
“I can’t believe it.” Ashley said.
“What? That you can see the baby now?” I asked.
“Well, yes, but this just became a lot more real.” He replied.
“I know.”
“We really are going to be parents.” He said.
“Yes we are.” I chuckled.

It was week sixteen and we were back for another ultrasound. I still didn’t want to know the baby’s gender, so it was more just to check on the baby’s health than anything else.
“Dr. Matthews.” I said as she walked into the examination room.
“Hello, Belle, Ashley. How have things been going?” She asked.
“Good. I’ve felt fine. A little weight gain, but that’s about it.” I replied.
“Okay, ready to see your baby?”
I nodded and pulled up the hospital gown. She waved the wand over it and settled over my lower stomach. I looked at the screen and saw the baby again. This time it was a little less curled in; I could see small ears and eyes on the baby’s face.
“I can’t believe it.” Ashley said.
“Yeah, neither can I.”
“What’s-“ Dr. Matthews started to say, waving the wand around the baby a little. “Oh.” She pulled out a measuring tape and wrapped it around my stomach.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
“Belle, how much weight have you put on since you got pregnant?” She asked.
“About twelve or thirteen pounds. Why?”
“I thought so, that’s about twice what you should have put on.”
“What are you saying?” Ashley asked.
She moved the wand a little more. “I’m saying that you’re expecting twins.”
“What? How could we not know before now?” I asked.
“Well, one of the twins was hiding behind the other one. It doesn’t happen often, but it is possible.” She replied.
“Wow. Twins.” I said.
“Here’s a disc with the ultrasound.” She handed us a DVD. “I’ll see you at twenty weeks.”
“Can you believe it Ashley? Twins.” My head was spinning. The idea of taking care of one child was enough, but two?
“We’ll figure it out. Everything will be fine Belle.” He kissed me.
“I sure hope you’re right.” I said.

Hope you liked it. I was feeling generous today, sorry it's kinda short, but I needed to get into the pregnancy a little faster. I will probably be doing some time skips, simply cause I don't know how to fill up all that time. Please comment.
