The Black Veil Bride To Be

A Friend

Amelie’s POV

I awoke in a room that I was unfamiliar with; a room with dark red walls and paintings of autumn leaves on the wall. My head hurt a little, not a total hangover but enough to make it hurt to even blink my eyes.

‘Andy,’ I thought; he was carrying me in his arms. How embarrassing! Drunk and helpless to a boy she just met in church. I mean, it’s not like he’d try anything. He seemed rather gentlemanly and genuine.

I looked around the room for a clock to figure out the time; it had to be moring because the larks were chirping and the light began to show through the curtains. I located the clock on the nightstand beside the bed that shown it was 9:03 AM. Holy shit! It’s Monday! I was suppose to be at school two hours ago! I pulled out my phone and dialed the school, “St. Anthony’s Secondary Prep, this is Abigail,”

“Hello, Abigail this is Amelie Prichard’s mother,” I said doing my best impression of my mother, “I’m so sorry for not calling in, just slipped my mind but Amelie isn’t feeling very well and will not be in today or tomorrow,” ‘this was too easy,’ I thought.
“Alright, thank you Mrs. Prichard,” she replied cheerfully,
“Yes, good-day,” I hung up and fell back onto the bed.
‘Where was Andy,’ I thought, ‘and did he have any Advil?’

Andy’s POV

My mom came into my room when she didn’t hear me getting up. I lied and told her that I was sick. Obviously, I was scolded and told, ‘that’s what you get for going outside in the cold without a jacket,’ oh mothers…

I left Amelie in the guestroom in the basement; hoping she wouldn’t wake up till after my parents left. It was almost 8:45 AM; my parents should be leaving soon. I poked my head out from behind the curtain and glanced downward to see if my parents had left.

Feeling the house slightly tremble at the slamming of the front door, I knew that they were on their way. I exhaled a sigh of relief and slinked back into my bed, ‘ that was close,’ I thought.
I wanted to lay here and fall asleep but I figured that I should check on Amelie, I was worried about her after she had passed out in my arms like that. I was even more worried about getting caught by my parents but I guess hurling her over my shoulder was a smart thing to do when trying to sneak back into the house.

I sat in the guestroom on the edge of the bed, where she laid, for almost an hour last night; just watching her and making sure she was still breathing. She slept like the beautiful dead she was; well she technically wasn’t dead but still, you get the idea.

I sat up in my bed and managed the strength to move down two flights of stairs to the guestroom where Amelie sat up staring out the window,
“Good morning,” I smiled,
“Hey there,” she groaned rubbing her eyes,
“You feeling alright?”
“Yeah,” she said, “just a headache; you wouldn’t happen to have any Advil, would you?”
“There’s some in the guest bathroom actually,” I said trotting across the basement to the bathroom to retrieve the aspirin for her,
“Thanks,” she replied taking the Advil.

I felt a sudden buzzing in my pocket; somebody was calling me. Oh shit, it was Scout.
“Hang on, I gotta take this,” I said stepping out of the room,
“Hey,” I said awkwardly,
“Hey baby, what’s going on?”
“Nothing,” I replied, “just chilling at home, you?”
“It’s Monday, why aren’t you in school?” she asked sternly,
“C’mon, you know school is for chumps,” I joked, “but seriously, I don’t feel well,”
“Awe, do you want me to let you go?”
“Maybe, I’ve been up all night with an upset stomach,”
“Oh poor baby,” she cooed, “well, I’m coming out to Cincinnati next month so hopefully you’ll be better by then,”
“That’s great, I can’t wait,” I beamed,
“I’ll let you get some rest, I love you,”
“I...love you too,” I hesitated, oh fuck my life. I hung up quickly and turned off my phone as to not be interrupted again; my nerves were fried from sleep deprivation.

“Who was that?” asked Amelie,
“Just a friend from back in California,” I said looking at my feet as I sat at the edge of the bed, “it’s nothing,” I lied.
“What’s her name?” She asked scooting closer to me,
“How did you…?”
“Andy, it’s not that hard to realize,” she chuckled,
“Am I that obvious?” I blushed softly,
“Oh yes, big time!”
I cradled my head down between my hands,
“I’m really sorry, Amelie; I really should’ve told you,” I suddenly felt something wrapping around me, I look up to see she was holding me, hugging me even.
“It’s okay,” she said softly, “I understand, it’s complicated and I’m just a friend,”
Just a friend...yeah...a friend.
