Metal Is in my Blood

“Heaven hear me, I know we can make it out alive.” Me and my mother sings to Breaking Benjamin, just enjoying the ride to the supermarket, the thing I love about my mother is that we have the same taste in music, from Black Veil Brides to Suicide Silence, she raised me on Metallica and Slipknot, maybe that’s the reason I am so nuts, and have anger management problems.

“Hey mom, did you heard about Oliver Sykes?” I ask with weak smile. “Don’t tell me,” She points to me with a grin. “He is finally getting married!” She yells jumping up and down in her seat. “How did you know?” I shook my head side to side confused. “Hello, a thirty year old also has twitter.” She snaps tapping her finger to ‘You only Live Once’ by Suicide Silence. “Sorry.” I giggle pushing my red crazy hair out of my face.

“So what do you want for your seventeenth birthday?” She turns to me with a crooked smile and returns her focus on the road. “I really want to go see Black Veil Brides.” I sigh heavily knowing it will never happen. “When?” I shrugged shaking my head. “Friday, they are playing at the blue ribbon center in town.” She nods and parks in the supermarket parking lot. “I am not sure your dad will let you go.” She whispers removing her keys from the ignition.

“Mom, this is my dream please, you went to the Slipknot concert when you were my age.” I groan banging my head on the dash board. “Yes, I remember, and it was also the best and the worst experience of my life, you were conceive at that show.” She chuckles removing her seatbelt climbing out of the car.

“Mom!” I moan following her, my head bowed down looking at my Vans sneakers. “Bell, I don’t want to be a grandmother.” She spats out making my eyes grew wide. “Who will I shag!” I half yell. “You know how the rock stars are, hot sweaty, half nak-” “Mom!” I scream snapping her out of her frenzy zone. “Fine I will talk to your father, but I wont guarantee anything.” She whispers grabbing my arm as we enter the supermarket. I really hope my dad says yes, this is so huge for me.

“How was town?” My dad asks as we enter the living room, he is in a business suit, his white sleeves rolled up so you can see his tattoos, he and my mother are not the perfect couple, they met at a concert from all places, he was playing drums in front of millions of people and he saw my mother, than the rest is history.

My dad is the drummer of Metallica, Lars Ulrich, yes I am the daughter of the best drummer in the world, not my words but Kierang magazine said that. Our family is really private and we intend to keep it that way, no press on our lawns and crazy people stalking us well I can’t say that about my dad.

“Dad, why are you in a suit?” I giggle pointing to his outfit. “Had a meeting, uncle Jason is maybe coming back.” He grins. Oh my God that is amazing. “When!” I yell jumping up and down in the living room. “Don’t know still deciding.” My mom kissed my dad passionately making me want to puke. “Uh, daughter still in here.” I state the obvious. “Don’t you have homework to do?” Dad asks with a huge smirk.

“Not until mom talks to you.” I cross my arms tapping my sneaker on the hard wood floor. “What do you want Bell?” He sighs heavily letting go of my mom’s waist. “She wants to go to a concert.” His eyes immediately grew wide. “Is that a yes?” Batting my eyelashes, doing the sweet daddy’s little girl trick, it works every time.

“What band?” My dad likes Black Veil Brides, I think he does, dad says he loves Fallen Angels and Rebel love song, so maybe that gives me a 39% approve! “Black Veil Brides, dad they are amazing.” Flashing a white teeth grin. “Madison I don’t like when Bell goes to concerts.” “I am right here you know.” I snap with my eyes brow raise, both my parents gaze at me with soulful looks. “Please, I won’t ask anything again, I will even sell my drums.” My dad scoffs and laughs, shaking his head.

“You want to sell my 1997 drum base for a black veil bride’s ticket? Isabelle Ulrich are you insane?” My dad half yells standing up, going into defense mode. “Uh, is that a trick question?” My mom giggles walking to the kitchen with the three grocery bags. “Bell,” He breathes hard holding out his hands to me, I nod giving him a big hug. “Thanks dad, front row please.” I whisper. “I will try.” “And back stage pass!” My mom yells from the kitchen. “You are not going!” He yells back with a chuckle. “Whatever.” He shrugs letting me go. “I will get you a ticket, go practice Enter Sandman.” I giggle and kiss my dad on the cheek, running up to my room. I love my dad!!

Midnight and I am done with my home work and drum line. I remove my reading glasses leaning on my black chair going up and down, bad idea but oh well.

“Bell, can I come in?” I turn my head to see dad in his white v-neck shirt and pajama bottoms. “Sure.” I whisper waving him inside. “Here, front row and back stage pass to the show Friday.” He says throwing a manila envelope on my white granite desk. “Thanks daddy.” I whisper caressing the envelope with my thumb.

“Can we talk for a second?” He asks sitting on my red and black steel bed, I turn the chair towards him with my legs crossed. “Magnetic tour is in five weeks, would you like to come with?” Wait what! “You are asking me to come on tour with you guys!” A huge smile spreads across my face like I just won the damn Lotto.

“Mom is coming, this is our last tour, but if you don’t want to its fine, you can stay with Maggie.” “Isn’t Aunt Maggie coming with?” I ask confuse, Maggie is my aunt; she is married with James Headfield the lead sing of Metallica. “No she is pregnant, you can think about it okay.” I sigh and nodded. My dad stood up giving me a kiss on my forehead. “Night my little rebel, I love you.” “I love you to dad.” I mumble. He walked out closing the door behind him.

Wow, me going on tour with Metallica the legends of metal. I was four years old when I went to a first Metallica concert, my father brought me on stage, I could not remember but I know it was amazing. Dad said i grabbed his drumsticks and started to play random, that’s when he realized I had his talents, and that was a moment in history for my father. He is indeed an amazing person.
