She Had Wings Tattooed On Her Wrist

2

Finally. Home sweet home. I don’t have to work until Wednesday, (Today’s Sunday) and I need to call Kali about the Gala.
Ah Kali. Kali was my best friend. She lived in downtown San Francisco, which was about a twenty minute drive from my house. She had bright red hair, and she was my species. We had matching chest tattoo’s together, and I had done the rest of hers. Speaking of tattoo's we both have quite a few. I have my arms tattooed, my wrist, my shoulder, my chest, and my stomach. She had one of her legs tattooed, a wrist, and three birds on her chest. What can I say. We were 1200, and living life to the fullest. Anyways, the Gala. It was a charity event for endangered spiecies that I had lent my artistic abilities too. I had designed all the decor, the t-shirts, the pamphlets and pretty much everything else. It was going to be so much fun. There would be famous people there, maybe even a few of our kind to mingle with. Either way, It was being called the party of the year, and it was tomorrow. Definitely time to call Kali.
"Hey Kali Kat." I pronounce when she answers on the second ring.
"Hey, Doll. I take it this is about the Gala?" She knows me better than I know myself.
"Yep. Are we getting ready at your house or mine?" My house was bigger, but her's was more girly.
"Obviously mine!!! Catch you tomorrow, I've got company over." We said goodbye, and I went to watch TV.
One thing you might not know about my kind. We don't sleep. Ever. And that gave us plenty of time to do other things.
Whether the things be whoms, or what's, it never really mattered, we didn't need sleep to survive.
I grabbed the remote and Annabelle, making my way to the couch, we sat down to watch some good tv.
We watched a few episodes of Supernatural and Sherlock before finally settling on Doctor Who. Sooner than I wished, the sun came up. When the doctor had saved the world one last time, I decided it was time to "wake up". Figuratively of course. I started the coffee and went up to my room to shower. I peeled off my clothes from yesterday, and stepped under the cool water. That was another quirk of mine. I have to take cold showers. I'm terrible in hot water. Part of who I am, I guess.
I close my eyes under the waterfall and let my subconscious take over. My mind is preoccupied. Images of the next war flash across my eyelids, but it doesn't frighten me. My gift was my sight. I've foreseen the Great War since I was a child. That being 1100 years ago. After so long, the images no longer scare me. I could tell they wouldn't take place until after my timeline. But that all happened before I came here. I alerted the higher powers of the war details, and left for Earth. It's been a better life here. I do not have to worry about the higher powers. Just as my images started to fade, new ones started. They were of a child. A little boy with my powers. He had brown hair, and green eyes. He was strong. Stronger than even me. Which was saying something because I was one of the most powerful Angels. Ever. Period. I blink the last images of the boy out of my sight and exit the shower. That was so weird. I’ve only had visions of the Great War and human affairs. Not once, have I ever visioned about another one of us. I decided to shake it off. Since I was going to Kali’s to get ready, I skipped hair and makeup. I threw my wet hair into a quick messy bun, and put clothes on. All the clothes I would wear tonight were already at her house, so I just put on pajamas. After checking my email and feeding Annabelle, it was time to go. I grabbed my finished coffee and got in my car. The car ride was pretty uneventful. If you don’t count rocking out to Pierce The Veil and Paramore. I even got a Black Veil Brides song on my IPod. They were decent. Just leave it there, I had only heard one song.
“Dahlia!!” Kali screams. She gives me a hug after I’m barely out of my truck.
“Hey Kali Kat, how’s life in the City?” I pull her back at arms length and inspect her. Not much has changed since I last saw her. She has a new lip piercing that probably won’t last, but besides that, she looks like regular old Kali.
“Oh my gosh girl! We have so much work to do on you!” Kali inspects my hair and nails. Luckily for us, we can change our appearance at will. As we walk into her house, I grow my hair out a couple more inches, and grow my nails out so they hang over a bit. I’ll be the first to admit, I bite my nails way too often. And I kinda failed at nails.
Four hours, two cans of hairspray, three bottles of perfume, two bagels and two coffees later, we are ready. I was wearing a gold and black dress with mid thigh boots. Kali had a floor length, one shoulder, red dress that looked fantastic on her. She matched it with black sandals and clutch. I had a longer purse strap, and more jewelry.
We got to the Gala, and I have to say. Lots of fun. I danced most of the night. And more that half of those dances were with Kali. I can’t really say they played my kind of music at the Gala, but it was fun nonetheless. We met a few others like us. A girl named Naomi, really left an impression. She was tall, dark skinned, and the life of the party. Apparently, she was a Nigerian, and she had come to show us some of the animals we were helping to save. That was a lot of fun, and Naomi was seriously beautiful.
It felt good to let loose. It felt great to dance and not worry about anything. That was before I closed my eyes. The minute I blinked, images of the little boy once again filled my sight. I gasped out of shock and Kali stopped spinning me.
“What is it Dall?” She asked quietly. I held up my hand for her to wait. The boy was still there, crying in the corner calling……
“Momma… Momma, where are you?”
This was unsettling. I felt like I needed to help the boy. If there wasn’t anything else to save, I needed to save the boy. What was I thinking? I don’t know this child, why do I feel so strong towards him. Suddenly, there was a bang on the door of the room the boy was in, and my sight pulled out. I clutched Kali, breathing fast and hard.
“What was it? What did you see?” She looked worried.
“Nothing.” I lied. “Just the war, like always.” She looked like she didn’t believe me, but knew better than to push it.
I shook the images from my head and went to dance. Soon, the boy was far from my mind, and I was in the swing of “Cross Road Blues” by Robert Johnson. Some rich older fellow had donated a lot to hear this song. I completely agreed with him. I had known Robert Johnson. Such a nice man. Too bad he made a deal with a demon. He should’ve known it wouldn’t have ended well.
Just when I thought the night couldn’t get any better, I saw someone dressed all in black, coming out of the crowd towards me.
“Hey Doll.”
