Love Isn't Always Fair
Chapter One
“Cadence, you almost ready?” my brother asks as I slide the top back on my eye liner, making sure the thick black lines circling my eyes were even before standing up straight and running my hand through my hair.
“Yes Bryan, dig your panties out of your ass,” I say as I walk out of the bathroom, pulling the bottom of my black top down a bit, my stomach clearly displayed through the diamond cut out pattern that starts just below my bra all the way to where the fabric rests over my hips.
“You do know dad would kill me if he saw what you were wearing right?” he jokes as I slide my feet into my strappy high heeled ankle boots.
“Most likely,” I smile as I stand up, my short five foot two inch frame raised to five foot five with the boots. “Good thing he likes me more huh.”
“Come on you brat, I have an interview to do!” he says, smiling affectionately. I should probably introduce myself, my name is Cadence Audrina Odell, and my older brother is none other than YouTube sensation, BryanStars.
“Yeah, I know come on, I’m ready, just waiting for you!” I exclaim, walking to the door, my purse thrown over my shoulder as I smile back at him over my shoulder. “Aren’t you just so happy that your best friend just happened to get the flu the day you need a camera man the most oh brother mine?”
“Yeah sure, don’t make me regret asking you to help Cadence, this is my job we’re talking about here,” he says as we walk to his car and climb in to head to whatever venue the interview is going on at in this unknown city.
“I’m twenty years old Bryan, stop acting like I’m that annoying four year old who kept breaking your G.I. Joe toys, Jesus you’d think I’m incompetent.”
“I know you’re not Cadence, I just get nervous before interviews,” he says with a shrug, reaching his hand over and flicking my earring. “I’m sorry.”
“I know you are,” I laugh in reply getting the smile to let me know he’s not mad. We drive for a few minutes with just the radio playing softly as background noise. After about ten minutes we reach the venue to see the sidewalk completely crowded with fans of the band he’s interviewing. I jump out of the car once he parks and grab the camera bag as well as my purse and carefully sling it over my shoulder before walking with Bryan back towards the venue since we had to park about a block away. “Who are you interviewing anyways?”
“Seriously, you didn’t pay attention to a word I said yesterday did you?” he states in disbelief as we reach the crowd of fans, most of who start yelling the minute they notice Bryan. He immediately turns away from me and interacts with the crowd of teenagers with dark make up, variously colored hair and numerous different band shirts. “How are you guys tonight!”
“Great Bryan, who are you interviewing in the band tonight!” one of the girls in the crowd asks as she hugs my brother, making me smile as he moves from one person to another, accepting hugs and taking pictures.
“I asked for them all so I guess we’ll see, I mean I asked for them all last time and I got Andy and CC so it’s anybody’s guess,” he says with a shrug as a few eyes turn to me causing me to shift my weight from one foot to the other awkwardly. “Oh, this is my little sister, Cadence, she’s helping me out this time,” Bryan introduces me once he realizes the eyes looking at me. I smile and wave and utter out a small hello.
“Welcome to the awesomeness that is a Black Veil Brides concert!” One of the guys in the crowd says to me, causing me to smile.
“Thank you,” I reply with a little laugh as I step up beside Bryan.
“Anyways guys, we have to get inside and get set up! See you all soon!” Bryan says as he starts hugging fans again, without warning a few start hugging me as well so I return their hugs without hesitation, I am beyond proud of my brother and I would do absolutely anything to make sure that his fans are never given a reason to dislike him for anything so of course I will hug all who hug me first!
“Jesus, that’s some crazy shit,” I say as we step into the venue past the security guards after flashing our passes.
“Yeah, it is a lot of fun though!” he exclaims as he continues forward quickly. “Hey Jon, nice to see you again, this is my sister Cadence, she’s helping me tonight. Cadence, this is the tour manager, Jon.”
“Nice to meet you, this way please guys, they’re opening the doors shortly so I want to get you all huddled off before the ruckus explodes,” Jon says, motioning us down this long sketchy dark hallway.
“You know in horror movies when the characters go down halls like this the blonde one always dies,” I say, jokingly as we reach an almost bare room at the end of the hall, Jon steps back and motions for us to go inside.
“The only thing you have to worry about in here are spiders,” Jon says with a smile.
“I would rather an axe wielding psychopath honestly,” I whisper causing the two guys to laugh before Jon walks out, looking around the room as Bryan lays his back pack down on the floor beside an empty bar. “He was joking about the spiders right?”
“I doubt it Cade, Jon doesn’t really do jokes very often.”
“Splendid,” I say, boosting myself up to sit on the counter as I set up the camera while Bryan fiddles around with the rest of the room. About ten minutes later I get sick of just holding the camera so I point it towards Bryan who was nervously pacing the room a few feet from the door. “Hey Bryan, say ‘my sister is a goddess.’”
“My sister is a goddess,” a new deep voice says as the door opens and a security guard walks in followed by CC, Andy Beirsack and Jinxx. I almost drop the camera in shock for a second, letting out a little squeak as I catch it in the air and stare at Bryan who is looking like he just died.
“I’m a fucking ninja,” I state before carefully placing the camera back on the counter and scooting off the side.
“Fuck yes! Ninja powers!” CC exclaims, running over to me with his hand up for a high five.
“Cadence you drop that camera I kick your ass,” Bryan states after saying hi to Andy and Jinxx.
“I can’t see you kicking her ass,” CC states with a smile. “I’m Christian Coma, or CC by the way.”
“I know,” I laugh. “And you’re Jinxx and Andy Beirsack.”
“Oh yeah, guys, this is my little sister, Cadence, she’s taking over for Kris, he got a bad case of food poisoning,” Bryan explains as I lean back, balancing on the heels of my shoes.
“Nice to meet you Cadence,” Andy says with a heart stopping smile.
“Trust me, the pleasure is completely mine,” I say with a smile as I pick up the camera and secure it to my hand.
“Cadence, I seriously think you should just sit back on the bar,” Bryan states looking at me seriously.
“Why...” I ask, crossing my arms over my chest.
“Well...you’re kind of short and we’re all kind of taller than you so you’d get a better angle on the counter...”
“You’re a dick,” I state, narrowing my eyes at him as the other guys laugh a bit. “Don’t worry Bryan, I’ll go sit on the counter like a good little girl and contemplate all the ways I’ll get you back for that little comment.”
“She’s a feisty one,” Jinxx says with a smile. “I like her.”
“You’re pretty awesome too,” I reply as I climb up onto the counter and get comfortable, adjusting the camera as needed before pressing the record button. “You’re on Bryan, whenever you want to start.” Within minutes Bryan and the guys are in full on interview mode as I stay still and silent, holding the camera steady. After ten minutes I look around a bit as I start to get restless, my ADD starting to kick in. I look up a bit an notice a shiny piece of web hanging from the ceiling and trace my eyes down along the thread like substance to what could only be described as the biggest fucking spider to ever exist hovering an inch or less above my hand. I look over at Bryan horrified, in case you didn’t guess, I’m arachnophobic. Bryan notices the spider but dutifully continues on with the interview as the other three guys also watch this creature’s progress. I close my eyes and focus on my breathing and feel my stomach churn as the legs reach my hand and the little fucker starts walking on my hand. I look away from the spider as I feel my eyes well up in tears as my throat clenches slightly as I fight back crying. I feel the legs climb up my arm as the interview continues right up to my jaw as the tears start sliding down my cheeks.
“I have to stop this interview right now for a second,” I hear Andy say suddenly making my eyes snap open and look towards where he stands beside Bryan. “I can’t handle that fucking spider climbing all over your sister’s face,” he says with a shake of his head.
“Muscles, grab the camera from her before she drops it dude,” CC says as the security guard moves the camera and turns it around to look at the massive spider on my neck.
“I’m assuming she’s afraid of spiders?” Jinxx says as Andy walks towards me, his stunning blue eyes locked on mine as he walks closer and finally flicks the spider off my face and onto the floor before stepping on it and killing it with a crunch, smiling at me.
“Don’t worry Cadence, I’ll keep you safe from the little pricks if your brother wont,” he says making me laugh as I wipe away my tears.
“I could have freaked out earlier but I didn’t want to interrupt, sorry about that,” I explain with a shaky voice as Bryan watches with a raised eyebrow making me blush softly.
“No worries, shit happens,” Andy says and hugs me softly; I wrap my arms around him immediately in response. “Hugs always trump creepy fucking spiders.”
