We Don't Belong
Surprises
I walked into the hotel room and dropped my bags on the floor, in the door way. We were leaving for Warped the next day and I finally was all packed.
"Go put on something nice." Andy said excitedly, meeting me at the door.
"What?" I asked confused trying to step over my bags. I stumbled a little because my foot got caught on one.
"Go put on something nice. I planned a night of awesomeness for the two of us." Andy replied proudly.
"We planned something...not just you." Matt corrected him from his spot on the couch.
"You do know we have to leave tomorrow right?" I answered.
"Yeah...I'm not totally ignorant." Andy answered.
"Did you finish packing?" I asked knowing full well his stuff was still scattered all over the hotel suite.
"I hired Matt to do it. Now will you please just go get dressed? You have an hour." He gave me a quick kiss and then pushed me in the direction of our room.
"I can walk there by myself." I said stubbornly and walked into the room and then shut the door in Andy's face.
When I came out of the room Andy, Matt and Andy’s mom were sitting in the living area talking. Andy was dressed up…well as dressed up as Andy gets. They all looked at me, making me a little self-conscious. “I’m too dressed up aren’t I?”
Andy smiled, “No you look perfect.”
“So where are we going?”
“He’s forbidden to tell you.” His mom chimed in.
Andy laughed, “Are you ready?”
“I guess?” I answered kind of suspicious.
“You might want to bring a change of shoes.” Matt advised, not helping my suspicions any.
“So…I’m going to blind fold you until we get to the first place.” Andy said as soon as we walked into the elevator.
“I’m in high heels Andy…do you really think that is a good idea?” I asked. “Should I change into my converse?” I held up my change of shoes that were in my hands.
Andy shook his head, “No you should be fine.” He took one of his bandanas out of his pocket. “I won’t let you fall.”
I just had to smile; it’s just one of those lines that every girl wants to hear a guy say. “So there’s more than one place?” I asked as he put the bandanna on.
“Yes…but that’s all you’re getting out of me.” He joked. “Oh and I have to warn you we’re going to have to go up a flight of stairs.” I could hear him push one of the buttons and we started moving.
“Seriously Andy?”
He chuckled, “Yep…this should be fun.”
“You’re an asshole.” I pointed out probably for the millionth time since I’ve known him.
“You point that out quite frequently. It’s like the equivalence to other couples saying ‘I love you’.” He said jokingly.
“And I mean it with all my heart babe.” I said sarcastically with a sweet smile.
“You make me feel so loved. I just don’t know what to say.”
“Call me a bitch and we’ll be even.” I answered and then the elevator stopped.
I could hear the door open and then Andy took my hand and led me off of the elevator. We walked for a little bit and then I could hear him open a door. “Okay here comes the stairs.” He said and then slowly guided me up like one and half flights of stairs before he opened another door. I could hear the wind and feel the sun. Where were we? I could feel Andy untying the bandanna. “Open your eyes.” Andy answered sounding excited.
I opened my eyes to see that we were on the roof of the hotel. In front of me was a table set for two covered in a black table cloth. On the table were some black candles and a vase of red tulips and then by the table was a guitar. I smiled, it was something totally unexpected.
“Surprise.” Andy said as he looked at my face. “Do you like it?”
I smiled, “I love it!” I gave him a quick kiss and walked over to the table and smelled the tulips.
“I remember you telling me that you didn’t like roses because they were overused and didn’t last long and that you thought red tulips were just as romantic and underutilized.” He explained.
“You actually listen to me?” I said with a smirk.
He nodded and smirked back. “Sometimes.”
I looked at the rest of the table there was a box of pizza and a couple of beers and some amp. My smile grew. It had been a while since we had pizza because his mom had been cooking for us. “Pizza!” I said excitedly.
“Geez and that’s the part you’re most excited for.” Andy chuckled.
I shrugged my shoulders and sat in one of the chairs. “I love pizza.” Andy sat in the seat across from me and handed me an amp. “So what is all of this for?” I asked opening the can and then taking a sip.
“For going through this with me. I know it wasn’t always easy having to put up with my grumpy ass day in and day out. Plus I figured we would need a real date, as a real couple before the hectic tour.” He answered opening the pizza box.
I grabbed a piece and took a bite. “Geez we are going out.” I said realizing it. Everything had just been so stressful and what not that it was hard to believe that we were supposed to be stupidly falling head over heels for each other and frolicking everywhere together. Gazing admiringly into each other’s eyes and what not. But then again our relationship was far from normal.
Andy laughed, “It kind of feels like we’re an old married couple.”
I shrugged my shoulders and took another bite. “We can make up for lost time over this summer. Act stupid together and do stupid stuff.”
“Looking forward to it.” He answered and took a bite of his pizza.
“So what’s the guitar for? Are you going to serenade me or something?”
He nodded, “Yep that is exactly what I’m going to do since you think my voice is so eargasmic.”
I chuckled, remembering when I told him that. “What song are you going to sing?”
“It’s a surprise.” He answered.
“Is it one of your songs?”
“What’s with the twenty questions?”
“Do I know the song?”
“Will you just be patient woman and let me eat?” He said chuckling.
“You shouldn’t have told me what the guitar was for. Now I want to know.” I answered picking at my pizza.
“Fine it’s for decoration. Will that shut you up about it?” I shook my head. He sighed and wiped his hands off, then turned around and picked the guitar up. “I heard you singing this in the shower a couple times so you better not hate it.” He commented and then started strumming on the guitar.
I smiled; he was singing All or Nothing by Theory of a Deadman.
“When I first saw you standing there, You know it was a little hard not to stare, So nervous when I drove you home, I know being apart is a little hard to bare, Send some flowers to your work in hopes, That I'd have you in my arms again, We kissed that night before I left, Still now that's something, I could never forget, You've got all that I need ,Looking at all or nothing, Babe it's you and I, With you I know that, I am good for something, So let’s go give it a try, We got our backs against the ocean, It's just us against the world, Looking at all or nothing, Babe it's you and I, Looking at all or nothing, Babe it's you and I.”
By the end of the song I was crying…what the hell?
“It was that bad?” Andy joked, totally ruining the moment.
“No!” I said wiping my eyes. “You did an awesome job at it.”
He smiled and put the guitar down, “Thank you…can I eat now?”
I sighed, “Yes you can eat now.”
We sat there eating and talking for at least another half an hour and it was starting to get dark.
“Ready to go to the next place?” Andy asked.
I smiled, “Depending. Do I have to be blind folded?”
He shook his head, “No, but you might want to change your shoes.”
"Go put on something nice." Andy said excitedly, meeting me at the door.
