One-Shots

I flopped down on a small patch of grass as the rest of the guys continued to mess around. Andy and Ashley were practicing some fighting moves, CC and Jake were discussing the impeding threat, and Jinxx was watching them all with an amused look on his face. Some drops of rain fell on his face and I smiled to myself.

Our junior year was just about over and by now all of us were anxious to spend as much time as possible away from school, especially considering the new danger that had us all on edge.

According to my brother, CC, the guys had sensed vampires last night. They had been pretty tense today, though I’d be more concerned about them during the night. My friends being the werewolves they were, weren’t people anyone would want to mess with.

I had known the boys were werewolves since I was in fifth grade, and I had known the boys even longer.

**********Flashback***************

“CC, what if the kids don’t like me,” I said.

It was CC and I’s first day of third grade and I was much more nervous than he was.

“Why wouldn’t they like you, Irene?” he asked. “I don’t dress like them. I mean, look at me,” I frowned.

I was wearing a black skirt, a long-sleeved, black shirt and a pair of black Mary Janes. I liked to dress in black. It was comfortable for me, but all of the other kids I saw as I was walking down the hallway were wearing bright colours.

“Don’t worry. I’m sure you’ll make plenty of friends,” CC reassured me.

“I’m not as out-going as you are. I’m not really comfortable around other people.”

“Well, you won’t make any friends with that kind of attitude.”

Half of the day passed and still I hadn’t made a single friend. I was sitting with CC at lunch and it seemed like he hadn’t made any friends either. I pushed around the food on my plate with my fork and stared off into the distance.

I snapped back into the reality when I noticed a small group of four boys dressed in black approaching us.

“Hey, I’m Andy,” the auburn-haired, blue-eyed boy said as he and the rest of his gang sat down.

“I’m Ashley,” the tan, black-haired boy said, giving me a cocky grin.

“I’m Jake,” the brown haired boy smiled.

“Jeremy. Everyone calls me Jinxx, though,” the cute, quiet one said.

CC started talking with them and I threw a few words in here and there, but mainly I stared at Jinxx. Whenever he would glance at me, I would get a weird feeling in my stomach, but I think it was a good thing.

“CC, you’ve been spending way more time with the guys than me. I hardly get to see you anymore,” I complained as I got started on my fifth grade math homework.

“You wouldn’t understand,” he said.

I huffed and he went upstairs to his bedroom and started to blast some rock music that I hadn’t heard before.

The doorbell rang and I got up from my spot at the kitchen table to answer it. I opened it and saw the boys standing there.

“What do you want,” I growled.

“To hang with CC. Is he home?” Ashley asked.

“Maybe he is. Maybe he isn’t. I’m not really in the mood to have you steal my brother for the fifth time this week. I know you’re all up to something, and I’ll figure it out.”

The guys looked nervously at each other, then at me.

“Do you promise not to tell anyone what we’re about to tell you?” Andy asked.

“Who the heck am I supposed to tell? I don’t really know anyone,” I responded.

“We’re werewolves and CC’s one of us,” Jinxx said.

I burst out into a fit of laughter.

“You’re joking, right? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard!”

“They’re not lying,” CC said from behind me.

I turned around and looked at him, confused.

“Guys, can we show her?” CC asked.

They nodded and we all started on a five minute walk to the forest. I kept glancing at Jinxx during the walk. He was always so serious and mature, yet he said they were werewolves. It didn’t make any sense.

We reached a closed of space and the guys stopped.

“Don’t scream. Okay?” Andy said.

“Fine,” I said.

Andy bent down on the ground and he began to shake. Black and crimson hair began to sprout all over his body. I gasped as his form changed into a wolf. He wasn’t really big, but plenty frightening.

“You weren’t joking,” I said under my breath.

“Do you believe us now?” Jake asked.

I nodded my head. How this was real was beyond me.

“So, what’s the deal with those vampires?” I asked Jake, interrupting his conversation with CC.

“We don’t know for sure. We only know that there is about the same number as us. We should probably lay low for a while, until they leave.”

“Haha. Good luck with that,” a voice chuckled from behind me.

I turned around to see six beautiful people standing by the tree line with evil smirks on their faces. There were two females and four males. I assumed the one in charge was the tallest one. He had an aura of power around him and he was the most attractive. He had bright, yellow eyes, a chiseled jaw, red lips that looked like they had recently tasted blood, and greased back, black hair. His leather jacket fit him perfectly and his worn-out jeans hung low on his hips.

“Attack,” he growled.

I scrambled to my feet and ran. I heard the growling of the boys as they turned into wolves, but I didn’t dare look back. I jumped behind a large boulder, hoping they wouldn’t find me.

I listened and didn’t hear anyone near me. I took a deep breath and looked up at the trees. I let out a cry as I saw the black haired vampire grinning wickedly at me. He was dangling his legs from a branch and he hopped down in front of me. He landed on the ground effortlessly without a sound. Vampires really were the ultimate predators.

“What do you want from me?” I squeaked.

“You’re not a werewolf. A puny human hanging around such a filthy lot is quite peculiar. How did you find out their secret?” he asked as his cold, lifeless fingers stroked my cheek.

“One of them is my brother,” I whispered.

“Oh. How interesting. I’m assuming he’d be distraught if he found you drained of your blood,” the vampire smirked.

“No, we don’t really get along,” I lied.

“Lies!” the vampire snarled.

“Please, just let me go,” I begged with tears running down my eyes.

“I’m afraid I can’t,” he chuckled as his lips pressed them to my neck.

I felt his sharp fangs penetrate my neck and I cried out. I could feel the blood being sucked from my veins and it was painful, but blissful at the same time. I couldn’t fight him. I didn’t have the strength. I was going to die, and my only regret was that I never told Jinxx how I felt about him and now he was probably dead.

“I’m sorry,” I mumbled. If only Jinxx could hear my apology.

Suddenly, I felt the vampires body being torn away from mine. I slightly open my eyes and see the faint outline of Jinxx as he tore the vampire to shreds with his claws. His hazel, wolf eyes connected with mine and he slowly changed back into his human form.

“Jinxx,” I breathed, only slightly aware of his nudity as he knelt in front of me.

“Irene, I’m so sorry,” he sobbed as he took out his Swiss army knife.

“What are you doing?” I croaked, as my vision began to blur even more.

“Saving you,” he responded.

He slit his hand and pressed it to my neck. Within seconds I blacked out.

“Ugh,” I groaned as I opened my eyes.

I felt someone’s arms wrapped around me as I lied in my bed. I looked over to see that it was Jinxx.

“Jinxx. Jinxx!” I said as I shook him awake.

“Hmm? What?” he muttered as he slowly opened his eyes.

“What happened? Are the rest of the boys okay?” I asked him.

“They’re fine. Andy broke his wrist and a few ribs and the rest of the guys just got bruised and cut up a bit. You were the worst off. Are you feeling okay?”

“Yeah. I think. I thought I was dead,” I said.

“I wouldn’t let that happen to you,” Jinxx soothed.

“Obviously. What exactly did you do to save me?” I asked.

“I…uh…I turned you into a werewolf.”

I blinked repeatedly.

“Why?”

“I couldn’t let you die.”

“Why not?”

“You…I… I love you, Irene. I love you more than anything. I didn’t think that I’d ever be able to find a mate, but then I found you.”

Tears sprung to my eyes.

“I love you too, Jinxx,” I smiled.

“Really?”

I nodded my head and leaned in to press a kiss to his lips. I was glad to have found my new destiny with Jinxx, although it happened rather unexpectedly.
