LEGION OF THE BLACK

Andy had Ashley, Jake, Jinxx, CC, Macca and the other 9 Wild Ones up pretty early so they could be well awake and fed before they left for the F.E.A.R. prison. Ashley as per usual sprang awake within five minutes but Jinxx and Jake on the other hand took a bit more waking up, Jake almost falling asleep in his bowl of porridge; CC had to punch him to wake him up. Once everyone was properly awake, fed, dressed and armed, Andy gave them the talk over again to remind them of the plan.

“So guys listen up! This is the last prison we’ve got to attack; we’ve done the rest with the exception of the prisons in their main headquarters and those we’ll go into on the day of the main battle. Now the plan… I know I’ve told you twice now but I’ll go over it again. Once we get there, no doubt Shadows will appear… CC I’m counting on you to do your usual to get us past them and through the main doors.” CC nodded, Andy continued. “Once we’re in we split up as I told you… Myself, Macca, Hannah, Kieran and Flora will go straight ahead, Ashley, CC, Lauren, Kelly and Ryan take the left route and Jake, Jinxx, Benjamin and Thomas go right…. Remember get only the living, we can’t afford to be bringing dead bodies back. Try not to get yourselves killed in the process! 15 minutes maximum and I want us all out of there! Are we all clear on what we’ve got to do?”

Everybody nodded, Andy grinned “Then let’s go!”

The rest of the Wild Ones cheered, clapped and wished the group good luck as they left. Andy left a lad name Reece in charge while they were gone.

The walk from the camp to the prison they were raiding took them two hours including a halfway rest and Ashley needing to stop to adjust his boots. On approaching the front doors of the prison, as Andy had said, five Shadows appeared.

“You are not getting past us Wild Ones,” one of the Shadows spoke in a deep tone.

Andy merely grinned, “Oh really?”

Before the Shadow had chance to say anything else, CC stepped forward and slammed his fist into the Earth causing sand and dust to rise and the Earth itself to crack, the five Shadows disappeared in shock.

“Now!” Andy yelled and the group surged forward towards the doors and CC again used his strength to get them open.

“Remember 15 minutes,” Andy yelled as they entered and split up, he grabbed Mackenzie’s hand to keep her close to him.

They ran down the corridors as fast as their legs would let them until they came to the cells the prisoners were being held in. They used axes to break the locks open. They had just broken into the last cell when four Shadows appeared.

“Get them out of here!!” Andy yelled, “Let me deal with these!!”

“Andy be careful!!” Macca pleaded as a Shadow took a swipe at him, “I don’t want you hurt!!”

“I’ll be fine just get them out of here!!” Mackenzie and the other three escorted the 11 they had freed down the corridor, leaving Andy to fight the four Shadows alone. They were halfway down the corridor, when Mackenzie felt a hand touch her shoulder. She pulled her axe out and turned ready to attack but stopped when she saw it was just a girl, no older than herself, a girl dressed in the same robes as the Shadows. Mackenzie still held her axe at the ready just in case. The girl held her hands up.

“Please I’m not going to hurt you.” Mackenzie looked into the girl’s eyes; she could see fear and hurt.

“What is your name?”

“My name is Loretta,” the girl spoke very quietly, “I am a Shadows daughter but I do not wish to be… I do not agree with the ways of F.E.A.R… please take me with you!”

Mackenzie lowered her axe, “How do know I can trust you? How do I know that you won’t be a spy and sneak off when we least expect it?”

Tears formed in Loretta’s eyes and she rolled the sleeves of her robes up to reveal bruises and scars.

“This is what I get on a regular basis,” the tears now began pouring down her cheeks, “Do you honestly think I want to remain here?”

Mackenzie was just about to speak when they both heard footsteps coming down the corridor. She stood in front of Loretta and raised her axe ready to attack when Andy appeared.

“Andy…” she sighed a breath of relief and lowered her axe.

Andy smiled, “Only me babe you can relax… who is this?” Andy’s gaze was fixed onto Loretta, who hid behind Macca.

“This is Loretta, she’s a Shadows Daughter but she doesn’t want to be… she hates it here, and she wants to come with us.”

Andy nodded, “That’s fine now let’s get out here before anymore Shadows decide to appear.”

Unfortunately, Andy may have spoken to soon as two Shadows appeared right behind them.

“Run!!”

Andy, Mackenzie and Loretta ran as fast as they could until they saw daylight and then, they bolted out of the main doors, which, CC and Jinxx had been stood waiting by.

As soon as Andy and the two girls were out they slammed the doors shut. Andy tripped and collapsed onto the ground. Ashley laughed.

“Took your time didn’t you?” Ash offered his hand out to his best friend.

“Got held back not my fault!” Andy took Ash’s hand and was helped up.

“We’ve rescued quite a few,” Jinxx and CC gave each other a pat on the back.

“Mine and Jinxx’s group rescued 9 and CC and Ash’s group rescued 14 how many did you get?” Jake asked

“11 I think?”

“That makes a total of 34 then,” Ashley grinned, “Not a bad day’s work.”

Andy nodded, “You’re right but we’ve got to get them back yet.”

“Well why are stood hanging round then?” Everyone laughed.

The journey back took a bit longer due them needing more stops because of the ones that had been rescued being weak, but they did finally make it. They were greeted by cheers from the Wild Ones that had remained at the camp when they entered through the main gates. Ash had been right, not a bad day’s work at all.

The rest of the day was spent helping nurture the rescued ones, getting them more decent clothes and finding them a place to sleep. Mackenzie helped Loretta get some new clothes and then showed her to what used to be her silo and told her she could have it now as she shared with Andy.

A party was held that night to welcome the new additions to the Wild Ones, which included lots of food and drink, music performed by the Legion and Jake doing magic tricks. They were all certainly going to sleep well that night however the same probably couldn’t be said for William when he found out that yet another prison had been raided, he swore he would get his revenge.
