LEGION OF THE BLACK

Not really knowing where to go, Mackenzie headed in the opposite direction of her silo, towards the silos in the back section of the camp/base area. The largest silo in the camp was for food storage and they were always in decent supply. The tallest silo had five levels and was the silo where the Legion of the Black, Andy, Ashley, CC, Jake and Jinxx slept, Ashley on the bottom, CC in the middle, Andy right at the top, Jake on the level between Ashley and CC and Jinxx between CC and Andy. Mackenzie proceeded towards said silo just out of curiosity as she’d only been by it once or twice. When she got closer she saw a figure sat on the bottom of the steps and when she got even closer, she saw it was Andy.

Her heart began to pound like never before, Andy was sat alone and there was no one else around at all, probably all getting ready for the funeral no doubt. Andy himself though looked deep in thought and she decided it was probably best to leave him to it, but, before she could turn to go, Andy’s head lifted up and he saw her.

‘Great’ she thought ‘Now I’m probably in trouble.’ However to her surprise, Andy was smiling and beckoning for her to come over. Nervously she made her way over to him.

“Hey Mackenzie,” Andy stood up when she was by the steps, “Are you ok?”

Mackenzie nodded, “Yeah I… Umm, you remember my name?” She couldn’t help herself.

Andy raised an eyebrow and chuckled “Yes of course, you’re the one who I rescued from F.E.A.R. two years ago. Not forgotten if that’s what you think?”

Mackenzie smiled and she felt herself blushing, “Oh um, no of course not.”

Andy laughed, “I know everyone around here’s name and face and besides even if I didn’t, I’m not going to forget a name or face as gorgeous as yours.”

Mackenzie felt her face heat up big time and her heart beat faster than it had ever before. “D-Did you just say what I thought you said?”

Before Andy could answer her however, Jinxx came down the stairs of the silo. “Hey Andy, Hey uh… Mackenzie right?” Mackenzie nodded, “Yeah that’s me.” “Hey,” Jinxx looked at Andy, “Shouldn’t we be starting?”

Andy glanced at the sky and nodded “Yes we should, lead the way.” Andy and Mackenzie followed Jinxx to the central area where everyone was gathering round the hole that Ashley and CC had dug. In said hole was some sort of wooden structure on which Chloe’s body was lay. Mackenzie spotted Josh stood by Ashley, Jake and CC.

“Hi,” Josh whispered when Mackenzie arrived next to him “You ok?” She waved in greeting and nodded, deciding it was best if she didn’t speak. Josh didn’t get chance to say anything else as Andy spoke.

“Today we gather here together to mourn the loss of one of our own. Chloe was a brave and fearless girl, she was a great person, being and most importantly to us, she was a sister and a friend. She will be one remembered and never forgotten.”

“Chloe did not die in vain,” Ashley continued “She died fighting for what she believed was right, for freedom and we will continue to do just that, lest her death be in vain.”

“F.E.A.R. will pay for this,” Andy’s voice became louder, “We will have our revenge! We will let them know what they have done to us! And together we will fight and F.E.A.R. will be no more! Start the countdown…” everyone began to chant, “5… 4… 3… 2… 1…!”

On one, Jinxx stepped forward and flames covered his hand. He set fire to the wood and the whole thing began to burn, including Cloe’s body, smoke towering high above the camp. The smell of burning flesh didn’t agree with Mackenzie’s stomach and she felt like she was going to be sick.

The Wild Ones and the Legion did not move until it had all completely burned out and once it had, Ashley and CC threw the dirt back in the hole and Jake placed a gravestone down that some of the Wild Ones had created earlier. One by one, everyone paid their respects and then retired to their silos for the night. Mackenzie didn’t get a chance to speak with Andy to ask him about what he’d said before so she figured she’d have to wait until tomorrow.
